I have been running too. Glad that the material was beneficial. Curious if all of the various spellings are related. If they are, there were Marquettes (different spelling I think) in the History of Mahoning County and simular books, so there may be more information). The names did not match what the gentleman was looking for here, but I filed that thought away. Let me know if I need to check that out.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for your message.

Yes, that is the Henry Harris (d. 1900) that I am interested in. I had theorized that he was the son of John & Mary Harris of Bilston, Staffordshire, England. However, the FamilySearch.org site shows that a Henry Harris died in Pittsburgh in 1894 - and that Henry was a son of John & Mary Harris of England.

I would love to figure out the parental names for Henry Harris of Youngstown - and I am hoping that the burial records have this information.

-Mark

I don't have a death date for Josephus at all. I have a death date of August 1901 for Martha.

Let me know what other info you have. I'll be happy to share what I know in return.

Are you related? Josephus and Martha were my great great grandparents.

Steve Marshall

Forgot that I took a picture of the info. Josephus Marquette b. 1822 NY interred 2/4/1887 Oak Hill Cemetery Youngstown. He supposedly died after being kicked by a horse. Ohio did not keep death certificates until 1908. I am going to see if I can go to the courthouse in the morning and get the death card. We tried to locate an obituary or a write up today but none was found. Let me check another source. In the cemetery book there is a notation for a Martha...will see what I can find since she died later. Still waiting for the gentleman I helped to day to contact me. On the marker at the cemetery, the last "E" was omitted.

It is wonderful when you find new people in the funeral report of attendees from out of town - smile

I don't see the name, Kobel, in Springfield Twp., or in Beaver Twp. Cemetery Records.

The St. Peter Cemetery (Schray) is located on Columbiana Rd. about 1 1/4 miles northeast of New Springfield and Rt. 165. It is fully visible on the southeast side of the road across the road from a large farmhouse.

The church building is long gone. It was dismantled in 1940. There is a monument that was erected to commemorate the site.

I suggest you contact the Mahoning Co. Genealogical Society because there are notes that reference the records of the church when the dates are different than what is shown on the stones.

Thank you for your detailed information. Who would have
the records from the church? Trying to find burial site
for Samuel Kobel (b. 5 Apr 1867 d.21 Dec 1922). Would you know the exact location of the site where the church was located that I might visit. Very excited to receive your information. Thank you again!

From: Springfield Township, Cemetery And Death Records, Mahoning County, Ohio, Series No. 2, compiled and edited by Margaret Miller Simon, Mahoning County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, Youngstown, Ohio, 1995

"Jacob Muckenfuss and his wife deeded a half-acre of land to Frederick Schroy, Dsvid Rukenbrode, Jr., and
Geo. Baugher, Directors of St. John's Meeting House. The members were largely German-born settlers who had emigrated after 1800 and who adhered to the Lutheran Pietist philosophy which emphasized personal Christian living rather than the orthodox doctrine. Prior to the organization of St. John's Pietest Church, the members had briefly embarked on a Utopian experiment in semi-communal living. In 1841 St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church was organized just down the road from St. John's. Many of the members were from the same families as those at St. John's and it was locally known as the Shroy (Schray)church. St. John's Church of Lutheran Pietists passed out of existence in the 1870's when most of the original members were gone, although there were scattered burials in the churchyard well into the 1900's. After nearly a century of existence St. Peter's Church was disbanded in 1940."
