YOUNGSTOWN -
Mrs. Mamie Ross Jackson departed this life May 9, 2015, at her residence in Youngstown, Ohio.

Mrs. Jackson, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Mamie J,” was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Meigs, Georgia, the youngest of four children born to Thomas and Jennie Lewis Ross. She was a graduate of The Rayen School, and she was the first to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the 60-and-over program at Youngstown State University.
She was formerly employed with Mahoning and Trumbull Counties Jobs and Family Services, retiring after years of loyal service in the late 1990s.
She was a loving and active Girl Scout leader, inspiring and encouraging young ladies to be active in their communities.
She was a faithful member of the church, dedicating her time and talents as a Sunday school teacher, member of the missionary and deaconess board, hospitality committee, and senior and mass choirs.
She enjoyed fishing, traveling, baking and spending time in her garden.
She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Deborah Hutcherson and Melvin (Karen) Kennedy Jr.; her sister, whom she adored, Catherine Livas; nine grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jennie Guilford; and her siblings, Wallace Ross and Tom J. Ross Jr.

A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Mamie Ross Jackson will be held Saturday at noon at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
