YOUNGSTOWN - Robert “Bob” Jones III passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley on May 6, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and friends at the age of 82.
Robert was born Nov. 28, 1932, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. Bob Jones Jr. and Mrs. Eunice Pyron Jones.
Robert graduated from The Rayen School, the last January class in 1951. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1954, and was stationed in Linz, Austria and was honorably discharged.
Robert retired from LTV Steel after 32 years of service, was the union leader for Local 1462, USWA, AFL-CIO.
Following retirement, Robert continued to work at OSS, Inc. of Warren, Ohio until 2013.
He was one of the chairmen for the Youngstown Area Parents for a Better Community.
Bob loved traveling, visiting children, grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Ms. Gwendolyn Jones (caregiver), of Youngstown, Mrs. Barbara Smith and Mrs. Carolyn (Anthony) Bryant, both of Columbus, OH; two sons, Mr. Robert (Betty) Jones IV of New Orleans, and Mr. Gearld (Sandy) Jones of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; eight great-granchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn A. (Jesse) Harris and Mrs. Alena (Nate) Lofton, both of Youngstown; and two brothers, Mr. Charles (Mae) Jones and Mr. Larry Jones, both of Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Jones of 54 years; daughter Valencia Ann Jones; and two brothers, William “Pep” Jones and George “Spider” Jones.
Viewing is Monday, May 11, from noon to 4 p.m. at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are Tuesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. with calling one hour prior at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Tabernacle Blvd., formerly Arlington Street.
