YOUNGSTOWN -
Mrs. Mildred L. Beasley, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mrs. Beasley was born in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Rev. Henry W. and Lillie Banks Smith.
She was a graduate of South High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in two years from Youngstown College and her Master’s Degree in Administration from Westminister College.
She was a teacher and principal with Youngstown City Schools.
She began teaching at Grant and Monroe Elementary Schools.
She served as a principal at Coitsville, McKinley and John White Elementary Schools, and assistant principal at Sheridan Elementary.
She also tutored in the after school program at the Boys and Girls Club.
Mildred was also active in PTA at Liberty Schools, where her daughter, Jada, attended.
She was a faithful member of St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, its stewardess board, lifelong member of the Missionary Society, a member of the Modernettes, VBS teacher, and food pantry volunteer.
She was also a member of IOTA Phi Lambda Business and Professional Women Sorority, various bridge clubs, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Youngstown Alliance of Black School Educators.
She leaves to cherish her beloved memory, three daughters, Patricia (Siegers) Wilson of Loveland, Ohio and Rev. Monica (Thomas) Beasley-Martin and Jada Beasley, both of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E. Marcel, whom she married in March of 1974, and who passed away April 8, 1996; a brother, Henry Smith Jr.; and Juanita Farrell, who was like a sister.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015, at St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church
