am i only able to search/order obits? my grandmother keeps requesting that i find her wedding announcement that was listed in the toldeo blade and i don't know how to do it from here on the west coast. she's pretty old and i'm terrified she'll pass before i can retrieve it. apparently, there a photo of her in the announcement that she'd "love to have".
they were married in may of 1942.
anyone know how i can get it?
thanks!
KENT, DEMUTH, KARIS, JONES, BURNETT and related Waterville/Whitehouse families

Per EARLY WHITEHOUSE HISTORY book, my ancestor, Frederick KENT, arrived from "near Paterson, New Jersey, near the Susquehanna River" along with his "relatives, the Burnetts, Joneses and Granny Karis".

I can establish the following relations, but am stumped after this point:

Frederick KENT, b. 1799 NJ, m. First Wife (U/K)
-had 8 children, all b. NJ
-arrived in Whitehouse, Waterville Twp OH ca 1847 with three children, Harriet (m. Rudolphus GILLETTE), Almyra Jane (m 3g grandmother, m. McConnell MILLER) and Isaac (m. Mary _______, m. Sarah _______. Later m. Angeline ADAMS (aka Angeline BISHER or SHARPE)

"Granny KARIS" appears to be one Mary (aka Jane) Karis, husband unknown (was an 1812 veteran who died prior to her move to Whitehouse from NJ). Her children (that I can find) are:

-Charity Ann, m. John JONES, m. George BUSH
-Maria(h), m. Charles BURNETT
-William, who apparently did not move to Whitehouse from NJ

I believe my Frederick KENT had a sister, Elizabeth, b. 1797 who married W.G. DEMUTH, b. 1791 PA. I don't know if this info might help anyone or not. Their children were:
-Catherine, b. 1815, m. Ranatus LUCAS
-Mary, b. 1817, m. Emanuel HELLER
-Ranatus, b. 1818, m. Lydia WINSLOW
-William, b. 1821, m. Catherine DISHER
-Eliza, b. 1823, m. Christian DISHER (bro. to above Catherine)
-Levi, b. 1827, m. MaryAnn HENDERSON
-unknown, m. Daniel WHITMORE

I am puzzled as to the relation between the KARIS clan and KENT clans, unless it is through Fredk KENT's first wife, whose identity is a serious brick wall, as she died prior to their coming here and NJ federal census info is unavailable for those early years due to their loss in a fire. I find no marriage records for them, either, in the few indexes I've found for that area.

The only other clue I've found is that in one census (1880, I think - can't remember offhand) I find Mary Karis living with one Sarah Miller, who is quite likely "Aunt Sally Miller" named in the Old Whitehouse History book, and who is also from NJ, and is the woman I believe to be the mother of McConnell MILLER, son-in-law to my Fredk KENT.

Are Mary KARIS & Sally MILLER sisters? Or were either or both related to Fredk KENT's first wife?

Are Frederick KENT and Elizabeth (KENT) DEMUTH, in fact, siblings?

Who IS Frederick KENT's first wife?

These are my mysteries, and my current brick wall. If anyone can fill in blanks, I'd be thrilled beyond belief!

There were a ton of us in Lucas, Iowa in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but I can't find graves or other family members who might still live there or who know my ancestors. My grandfather was Henry Mayers of England and my grandmother was Martha Eldora Cromer Mayers. I know my dad's niece, Mabel and her husband Floyd lived there on a farm, too. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Frank died in 1903. His death record did not show any parents. Both died in Brown County, Wisconsin.

Thank you,
Ruth Pokorny

Gray and Clantz

HI,
I have seen several postings here about the Gray Family of Providence twp Lucas co Ohio. My Grandfathers name was
Ralph Waldo Gray and his father was Rudolph Hannoms Gray,
Married Emma Jane Box, lived near Grand Rapids Wood Co OHio. His father was Hannoms B Gray who was married to Mary E Clantz. her Father Charles Clantz. mother Anna Catherine Andes. There are several trees with a Mary E Clantz Fisher showing to be the wife of this Charles Clantz when she in fact was the daugher of Charles F Clantz the son of the above Charles Clantz and brother to my Mary E Clantz. Rather confusing. I am familiar with Suzanna and Christina and have them in my tree but not sure if Hannams Gray born abt (1826) is the son of Thomas Gray or ? If anyone knows anything about this possible connect please let me know
shoelady@outb.com.
Thanks
Jeanne Albright Gomer Mother was Lois I Gray father Ralph Waldo Gray,
Would they be in the county courthouse or the state archives? And in 1830 wasn't Toledo still part of MI? Would the records be in Monroe, MI?

Joseph Edward McConnell
MC CONNELL Joseph Edward Joseph Edward McConnell went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 25, 2008. Joe was born on August 27, 1943 and was the 19th of 20 children born to the late Aldis and Eva McConnell. Joe was born in Toledo, Ohio and later resided in Las Vegas, Nevada where he and his loving wife, Karen lived for 16 years. Joe was a strong, fun loving and caring man who enjoyed bowling, woodworking, helping people and would adopt every animal that he could. When it came to helping, Joe was a friend indeed without hesitations. He was a bus driver for his daughter's drum and baton corp and he also aided with the Toledo Glassman Drum and Bugle Corp. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Coon) McConnell; daughter, Sheila (Tim) Davis; two stepsons, Roger and Dennis (Dawn) Whaley; four grandchildren, Heather, Keri, Tyler and Zachery; one great-grandson, Cody; five step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; brother, Dwaine (Diane) McConnell; five sisters, Arlene Dell, Eileen Jenkins, Doral (Richard) Galloway and Neva (Jim) Hall; very special friend and mother of his daughter, Carol Patterson. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by seven brothers and six sisters. Friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon (419) 693-9304, on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. "The family would like to express their concerns and gratitude for all the thoughtfulness and willingness to help Joe over the past year." Sleep on Dad and take your rest. We all loved you, but God loved you best. You are not dead to us, who loves you, not lost but gone before. You live with us in memories and live forevermore...
I am searching for Thelma Walker, the daughter of James R. Walker and his wife Emma. She was born in 1899 in Ohio. In the 1900 census, she was living with her parents in Washington Township, County Henry, Ohio. She was found in 1910 living with her aunt and uncle in Jackson, Missouri. The last known information about her is that she was living on Warren Street in Toledo Ohio in 1920 and was a stenographer for a car company. It is not known if she married. Her father was a doctor in Walbridge Ohio in 1905 and is thought to have died in 1906. She had a half sister, Eva M. Brigham.
Thanks for any information.

I need an obit for James Lansford BEATTY. He died on 10 Oct 1955 at the age of 79. He has relatives buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo (his father, James H Beatty, and his uncle, Lansford Beatty). However, James was cremated and not interred there. He was born and raised in Toledo, but during the early 1900s, he moved back and forth from Toledo to Los Angeles, CA. My main objective is to find out what happened to James' older, half sister, Sarah A. Beatty. I'm hoping his obit will provide a clue or two.

Thanks for your help!

Pat

Philip Mercurio

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Philip Mercurio. I believe he was born in Toledo in 1903 and died in Toledo in 1944. He was married to Frances Razzano and had 2 children, Michael and Philip. I have been told that he was a prizefighter, the "Charleston Kid", and that he was a golfer. I believe his parents were Michael Mercurio and Mary Gentillo, both from Italy, and his siblings were Carmella (Camella?), Angela, and John. I am told that all are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Toledo. That's basically all I know. I sent for his birth certificate from Lucas County, but it was returned as "record not found". Also, I obtained my father's birth certificate which listed his mother's name as Kathryn rather than Frances. Hmm. The final two family members that may have information have been very discreet. I hope someone can help. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have a photo marked "Lucille Leidorf" that was found among my family historical photos. A quick census search finds a child by this name in the same area and the same age as my grandfather, so I assume this was likely a classmate of his. In the 1930 census, she is 7 years of age, the daughter of E. Henry and Jessie (Ludwig) Leidorf, and living in Providence Twp. Siblings are Harold, Eva & Ruth.

The photo is a wallet size, about 2.5" x 3.5", hand-colored and in excellent condition. If anyone knows of this family, please post here. I would love to pass this along.

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I obtained a lovely set of 5 photos, taken of the same baby boy, who is identified as James Otto PFEIFER.

The first photo, identifies him and states that he is 3 months old.
The next photohe is seated on the ground wiht another child, who is standing next to him. Nothing is written on the back of this postcard (snap shot) but he looks just like then next studio posed photo, where he is identified as six months old.

The next photo identifies him as 9 months old and he's standing, holding the back of a wicker type chair.

The last photo of James, states that he is 1 year old and it's taken on the 12th day of December 1906.

These are awesome photos, showing the growth of a little guy through his first year. I'd like to locate family to send them to. For details on obtaining them, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com

Kathy

Searching for info on this couple. They had two daughters, Frances Amanda (b. 9/18/1851) and Jessie May (b. 8/26/1869). Jessie was born in Whitehouse, OH; Frances was married and died in Whitehouse.

I am in search of all info relating to this couple: births, marriage, death. I do know that McConnell was a CW vet; however, his pension records did not reveal any additional info. I suspect they may be buried at Whitehouse Cemetery. Are there any transcriptions for that cemetery?

Hi,

I am looking for the obit and funeral announcement for William MURPHY. I only have a small article from the old hometown newspaper where William grew up. This was in The Lowell Sun (MA)dated 5 October 1948. His wife's name was Hazel. I believe his daughter, Anne McNulty had the small memorial notice put in the paper as she was living in Lowell at the time of his death.

If his obit can be found and it states where buried, then I will not need the funeral announcement. I do not need the articles mailed to me. The can be scanned and sent as as a .jpg attachment or just typed up in an e-mail, whichever is the easiest for you. I really appreciate any help with this.

The DUV said that in order to submit that page, I would need a copy of the face page of the book. Since I'm in California, I don't have a way to get it locally, but they want it asap if I am to be a charter member of a new tent.

Just thought perhaps someone out there would know about this.
Kathy Wittes

POW/MIA Korean War, Lucas Co. CRAIG

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Lucas County, Ohio as his home of record.

Soldier: JOHN RICHARD CRAIG
Born: December 23, 2928. Caucasian
Date of loss: December 3, 1950. MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 51 families in Ohio that have not been located. There is one family from Lucas County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I just received a death record from Toledo, Lucas, Ohio. I thought this would be routine, that Marcianna "Martha" Ceglarski simply died of old age on Feb. 25, 1916. But the record indicates that there must be more to the story, and I think it might be a news article. She died of a fractured skull, contributory cause was "railway accident." Marcianna "Martha" Ceglarski was an immigrant from Jaksice, Poland/Jakshitz, Germany. I'd like to know more about her death, if anyone has access to old newspaper microfilms. I'm in Wisconsin and would appreciate any help.

Looking for any information regarding the Zinn family line who resided throughout Northwest Ohio. I have hit a wall with Bert Zinn, born 1868, married to Jennie Sutton, born 1878. Rumor has it that Bert (maybe a nickname or shortened version of full name) was a German immigrant (or son of) who was a teacher for a NW Ohio school. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. I have four young children and getting out to the libraries is out of the question right now. Thank you.

Naturalization and Marriage Records

How would I find naturalization records for my ancestor, Owen Cumiskey, who indicated in the 1900 census that he had filed first papers and that by the 1910 census was naturalized?

Also, his son Thomas J. Cumiskey married Madge Elsie Bales about 1890 (as indicated in the 1900 census in which they say they had been married 10 years). How do I locate a marriage record without an exact date? Is that possible?

Washington Twp Land Records

My ancestor, Owen Cumiskey, used to own and farm land between 1876 and 1900 in Washington Twp, Lucas County. I have been told the land may have been off Douglas Rd, extending into Michigan state, but cannot confirm. I have copies of the 1880 and 1900 census which show him in Washington Twp and occupation is listed as farmer. Without a specific date of sale or specific location of the land, how do I go about finding a record of ownership?

Supica Family -- Toledo

Hi,

I am having a lot of difficulty researching my great-grandfather's family, surname Supica. I hope that someone here has a personal connection, because I have had a hard time finding resources for the surname. My grandmother thinks they may have changed it when they came to America.

The family lived in Schenectady, New York, before moving to Toledo around 1914.

My great-grandfather's name was Theodore (Ted) Supica. He was born in New York (probably Schenectady) on 16 September 1908. His siblings include Frank, Joseph, Leo, Chester, Mary, Josephine, and Anna. He died on 23 November 1988 in Toledo.

He was the child of Peter and Martha Supica, both of whom were born in Poland according to the 1930 census. They were in the U.S. by 1904, but I can't find a trace of them before 1930. I have reason to believe Peter left the family before that year (although Martha is marked as 'widowed'), which makes things even more difficult.

Martha's maiden name may have been Wysocki, and her father's name was Peter.

If any of these names seem familiar, please reply.

What record's should I search for 1914?

I'm finding a Joseph Kielb in the 1914 Toledo City Directory. I think this is the father of my Adela Kielb. He's only in the 1914 directory; not the previous or next five years. He's there and then he's gone--my Adela Kielb and her husband Antoni (Anthony) Rucki have the birth of their first child in 1915. I cannot find a record of marriage for them in the 1910-1920 time period so far. Adela names her father, Joseph Kielb in her Social Security Application in the 1920's.

What other records might the group suggest I search?

Thanks,

Bill Gatchell
San Antonio, TX
