Researching this family, living in Lorain. Anna Gorski married Wawrzyniec Rak sometime around 1915 in Ohio. Looking for other family members in Lorain. Trying to find out where in Poland they came from so we can go there. Anna probably came to America about 1912, had a nephew who was born in Ohio in 1906 named Tony Garski/Gorski. Thank you!

Murtaugh/Harper
I am against a stone wall trying to determine the relationships in the Harper/Murtaugh side on my heritage.

I am still trying to determine the relationship between the 1st and 2d wives of my GGF Albert George (A.G.) Harper. My GGF A.G. family migrated from NY state, via PA state, and settled in Lorain County. His Father was Gaylord V. Harper. Both were employed as pump builders in Lorain County. I recently found Gaylord's death announcement in the 28 Apr 1869, Elyria Democrat. It said that he died in Rawsonville. I have yet to find his gravesite. You had made me aware of the burial site of his grand daughter Lillian in Butternut Ridge. Oliver Manly Harper was my GGF Albert's brother. My GGF A.G. Harper migrated to Kaneville, Venango, PA, circa 1862.

A.G. Harper married Mary Ann Murtaugh in Lorain County and moved to PA. They had four children, Albert, Elmer, Mary, and Ellen. Mary Ann and both sons died in 1871 and are buried in St. Mary's or Butternut Ridge. I do not know which Murtaugh family that Mary Ann came from. My GGM Ann Rose Murtaugh, was the daughter of Peter and Mary Carroll Murtaugh. Peter and Mary are buried together in St. Mary's. There is a second Peter Murtaugh in St. Mary's. He is buried next to Mary Ann Harper and son Elmer, which leads me to believe they are closely related.

I could never find Mary Ann in Lorain County Census. She does show up in the 1860 and 1870 Cornplanter Twp, Venango, PA, censuses. Ann Rose shows up in 1870 Carlisle Twp, Lorain, OH, census and then in the 1880,1900,1910,1920, Cornplanter Twp, Venango, PA. censuses. My GGM Ann Rose died in Oil City, PA, 1924.

Is there anyone in your club that could shed some light on these issues? Where is Gaylord buried; who are the Peter Murtaugh's; what is relationship between Mary Ann and Ann Rose. Does Lorain County have a Death Book with a record of deaths before death certificates came into being ? Likewise, is there a Marriage Book? I've searched the web for Lorain County genealogy publications without success. Are there any?

BROWN Lewis of Brownhelm, from Germany

Trying to determine what happened to the BROWN family, of German ancestry, that was in Brownhelm Twp. by 1836.
[Note: no connection to the non-German Henry BROWN family for whom Brownhelm Twp. is named!]
In the 1840 census:
BROWN, Lewis est.1815, 1 fem.-est1815, 1 fem.-est1836, 1 fem.-est1837, 1 fem.-est1839.
By 1850 Brownhelm:
BROWN, Lewis c1810 Germ.
Catherine c1812 Germ.
Anney?(fem) c1836 OH
Almira c1837 OH
Ellen c1839 OH
George c1842 OH
Lewis c1844 OH
Mary c1847 OH.
Lewis apparently owned quite a bit of property in the n.e. section of Brownhelm. On the 1857 map of Brownhelm Twp., there are several properties, labeled "L. Brown hrs"(heirs), along the northern end of Baumhart Rd.
Presumably these were Lewis BROWN properties, and he was deceased by 1857.
There was a "Ludwig" BROWN who married Catherine HENNINGER in 1835, Lorain Co.
Is this "Ludwig" perhaps Lewis, above? If so, Lewis above may also be the "Ludwig" in Brownhelm Cem.:
BROWN Ludwig 1812-1852, Catherine 1812-1850.
By 1860, there seem to be no BROWNs from this family left in Brownhelm Twp.
However, a different new "BROWN" family [actually BRAUN ] shows up in Brownhelm Twp. by 1860 census.
But this newer BRAUN family was still in Germany at least until 1845, and perhaps later.
There may be no connection between the "Lewis BROWN" family and the later Henry [a.k.a. Justus?] BRAUN family, even though Lewis BROWN, being German, probably had changed his name from BRAUN, to BROWN, when he arrived in USA in the 1830's.
The questions are:
Are "Lewis" and "Ludwig" above, the same person?
What happened to the children of Lewis BROWN?
Did any of his daughters, Anney(?sp), Almira, or Ellen, marry and stay in Brownhelm area?
What happened to his sons, George and Lewis Jr.?

Court Records for 1895; Lorain County: MANN

While going through my documents, etc on Elias J. Mann, I am reminded that, in the November 9, 1895 newspaper, Lorain County Reporter, he is one those listed under "Grand Jury Indictments." I would like a copy of the court papers; where is the best (only?) place to get a copy of them ? I cannot imagine it being the father [aka E.J. Mann], considering his age at the time, so am wondering if there is a son I know nothing about.. Finding the court papers could tell me more about this elusive branch of the Mann family. I do not have access to any research library that may have this on film, so no need to suggest I "go to my local LDS libary". which always seems to be the first response to any query..
Thank you for your help.

Declaration or Naturalization?

Below is text that I transcribed from the Common Pleas Court regarding the Naturalization of my ancestor, Lawrence Daly. In reading it, I don't know what the document is. It's called a naturalization, but it sounds like both the Declaration and Naturaliztion rolled into one. My relative James Daly, was naturalized in the same court in 1838 (9 years earlier), and he had two witnesses, and it was done on an individual basis. His brother John Daly appeared at the same time, and had this same "individual" treatment. Can anyone who is familiar with the language, and has seen this type of entry before, let me know which document I have. In the meantime, I hope this proves interesting to other Lorain County researchers. I copied this exactly as it appears...without punctuation!

Thanks,
Patricia

Lorain County Court of Common Pleas
September, 1847 Session
Journal 4, page 46

Naturalization At this term came (unreadable, maybe: John/James R…) Patrick Garroly Jr Isaac Hubbard Lawrence Dailey Joseph Neff George Neff Peter Dunham, William Willis Patrick Garroly, & John Schneider and made application to be naturalized under the laws of the United States and it appearing to the court that each of them have respectively filed a Declaration of their intentions to become citizens two years hence and that they have resided in the United States for more than five years, that they are persons of good moral character, and attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and are well disposed to the good order and happiness of the people of the United States do order that said applicants be admitted as citizens of the United States, and thereupon said applicants appeared in open court and severally took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and that they absolutely renounce & (unreadable) all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince potentate state or sovereignty whatsoever and particularly the sovereign of which they each were subjects.

Morse, Persis M. -- Died, on the 30th. of October, 1874, at the residence of Lysander Morse, Mrs. Persis M. Morse, wife of George W. Morse, in the 20th. year of her age. She was born in Lorain County, Ohio, and united with the M.E. Church, about two years ago; maintaining a Christian character, and passed away in the sweet assurance of the Christian's faith. During her visits to Shelby, and her last brief stay here, she won many friends. To one so young, life had many attractions, but when God called, she was ready "to depart and be with Christ". Her remains were taken to Penfield, Lorain County, to sleep beside other friends, until the resurrection of the just. -- W.W.A. One of their sons was Mathias (Matthew) J. Weber who married Anna Manning. These are my great grandparents.

I have a lot of info on this line all the way to current time and would love to hear from you and swap info.
Samuel Long Obituary

Mr. Samuel Long was born in Franklin Co., Pa., Feb. 27th, 1801, and died Dec. 29, 1882, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and one day. At the age of 17, Mr. Long began the trade of a blacksmith, which he followed the greater part of his life. Oct. 29, 1822, he was married to Miss Catherine Goodman, with whom he has lived more than 60 years. They had a family of seven boys and three girls, all living but one boy, who died at the age of fourteen, 39 years ago. The deceased came from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1835, lived for a while in the counties of Wood, Wayne, and Knox, and also in the State of Illinois. Thirty-eight years ago, he came to this county, and here remained until death. His illness was of short duration, as it is not yet two months since he was able to handle his own horses and go from place to place. Taken with a severe cold, his health quickly gave way, but he went willingly down into and through the "dark valley" without a murmur. Mr. Long joined the Presbyterian church in Pennsylvania at the age of 31, yet, owing to his moving from one place to another, he failed to retain his connection with the church. When he came here he united with the Congregational church. Owing to his deafness he has not attended services very much for some years, but he gave a good deal of attention to his Bible. At the beginning of his last illness, clouds hung over his spiritual sky and some doubts of divine acceptance annoyed him, but these passed away, and a sweet trust and confidence took possession of his soul ere he died.
The Word brought to his remembrance was precious to him, and seasons of prayer very highly enjoyed. His patience and his thankfulness both to friends and loved ones and to his Savior were remarkable and very full of comfort to those around his beside, giving a glad assurance that he has gone to the rest that remains for the people of God.
The Wellington Enterprise
Wellington, Ohio
January 3, 1883 Page 3

I just found a daughter of Francis James and Ann Hill's daughter, Lavendar Ann, married Edgar Leland CLARK abt 1889 probably in Lorain Co., OH. They resided in Clarksfield, Huron Co., OH and had two children that lived, Jean b: Jun 1892 (single on 1930 census in Ashland Co.) and Dow Jay b: 16 Feb 1897. Dow married Marie _?_ about 1918 and had (by 1930)children: Doris b: Nov 1919, Dow Jay Jr. b: 1922, Edgar O b: 1926 and Blanche b: 1928. By WWII Dow was living in Warren, Trumbull Co., OH and on his WWII draft registration listed his closest relative as his mother, Anna, who was living in Cleveland. Edgar died between 1920 and 1930 census as on the 1930 census Anna b: Jul 1865, is listed as a window and her spinster sister, Minnie, b: May 1858, was living with her.

Lavender Anna and Minnie are children of Francis James Sr. and Ann (Hill) WELLS. Other children to the marriage were Sarah Ann b: 1851, Louuisa Maria 1856, John Hill b: May 1860, Frederick M Jul 1867, and Bell E 1869. They grew up in Wellington, Lorain Co., OH 1870+, and resided in Wakeman, Huron Co, OH, during 1850-1860s. Francis James is the eldest son of my 'brick wall', James Wells b: 13 Mar 1792 and Persis (Earle) b: 1792 .. both are buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Huron Co., OH.

If you know anything additional about this family, I would love to talk to you.

Bonita
St. Stephen's Parish, 1833

Hi All,

I'm interested in any information that I can acquire on the location of the St. Stephen's Parish, 1833. This may have been a log cabin, or land upon which nothing was built. The church sold the land to my ancestor, James DALY. October 28, 1833.

The land is described as "situated in Grafton being Township No. four in the sixteenth range of townships in the Connecticut Western Reserve...Lot 68 consisting of 83+ acres...."

The deed was signed by the following men as "vestry and wardens": William TURNER, George SIBLEY, Franklin WELLS, and Ezekiel TURNER. Lyman PEABODY and Jarvis INGERSOLL witnessed the signatures.

Would anyone know what denomination this church was? Did it have a cemetery? Is anyone researching the any of the names?

Thank you,
Patricia

Anderson H SMALLRIDGE Death Look up--1956

Dear Listers:

Seeking a death look up on Anderson H Smallridge, who may have died in Lorain Co., OH sometime in 1956. Anderson, b. 3/20/1868 in French Creek, Upshur Co., WV, is the s/o Samuel D and Barbara Jane Crites Smallridge.

Anderson and wife, Elizabeth Mercer/Merson, resided in Wellington in the 1930 census.

By 1932, Elizabeth returned to Upshur Co., WV, where I did find her DC and her place of burial. Elizabeth died 3/25/1932 in Buckhannon, Upshur Co., WV and is buried with her first husband, Jacob Hager, in Heavner Cemetery, Buckhannon.

With Anderson, I have not been so lucky. He is buried in Center Chapel Cemetery, French Creek, Upshur Co., WV. I have not been able to locate a WV State DC. I haven't found a death notation in any of the nearest courthouse books, either. It seems Anderson died and then just buried himself in Center Chapel.

That was until I found him in the 1930 for Wellington. He could have gone back to Lorain after his third wife's death. I'm not sure. I know it's a long shot but I'm hoping to either confirm or kill the theory of OH.

Can anyone help? Thank you so much for you time and effort.

Sincerely,
Tina McKie
French Creek

Maybe you can help me once again. I am looking for some hints about Amelia Guyeske (1887-1978; lived in Elyria,Ohio), Martha Komm (? lived in Cleveland, Ohio) and Edward Seibert (? lived in Cleveland, Ohio). I think they are brothers and sisters and were all born in Germany and immigrated to the USA at the beginning of 1900. I searched for more information about them but unfortunately with no success. Maybe you can help me?
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all members!
Best wishes, Antje

History of Lorain Communities Query

Hi,
I have been trying to find the name of my ancestor, the father of Welcome Hill and his sister, Sally (Hill) Davis. Welcome and Sally stated on all censuses that they were born in Rhode Island and they both lived in central New York State in the early 1800's. I assume that there father moved from Rhode Island to New York State sometime in the very early 1800's and they grew up there. Unfortunately, there were several Hill's families who moved to the area, all related, all from Rhode Island, so it has been difficult. I was extremely fortunate to find a "lost" cousin (lost to me, anyway) who has sent me a copy of a two wonderful letters written by Welcome Hill to his sister Sally Davis in 1829 and 1837. The 1837 letter has the following quote: "Father has married a woman by the name of Sally Myers about three years ago next April. Sold his farm got some money but took the principal part in land in the Ohio Lorain Co town of Spencer where he now lives, he came down to see us last June. I have written to him since but have had no answer yet, it was his request that I should write to you and let you know the situation of things and wished you to write immediately back to me."
I have seen no town of Spencer in Lorain County. I saw one in nearby Medina County. Was there a town of Spencer also in Lorain that was later renamed? Was Medina County part of Lorain at that time? I have noticed that the 1840 census lists no Hill that is one of the candidate names from back in Wayne Co. NY. However, it does have an S. Hill (Sally Hill?) in Avon Township and I did see a grave in Avon Center (Mound Center) cemetery for a Sally Hill who died in July of 1840, age 44. So, I am thinking that maybe Welcome's father died between 1837 and 1840 (he would have had to have been approaching 70 at that time) and his wife Sally Hill inherited the property and then died herself not long after. But, Avon Center is not near Spencer, is it? Was there another Spencer in the area? I would appreciate any help from anyone who might be familiar with old place names in the County.

Thanks,
Natalie

I'm trying to get passenger and immigration information for my great-great-grandfather. He came to America/Canada from England around 1844 and lived back and forth in Michigan and Ontario for several years working on/around the Great Lakes. The Ancestry.com lists the right name and date that could be him. How do I get this verified? I live a thousand plus miles from the source info. and nothing I can verify on line other than the quoted source.

Source: GRAY,MARY PARKER. "Naturalizations from Lorain County Common Pleas Court Journals" Two parts. In Lorain Researher(Lorain County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society), vol 8:1 (winter 1991), pp7-9; vol 8:2 (Spring 1992), pp 20-22

Source Publication: 2763.1
Page 21

My current information indicates that this may have more information which could help me locate other family members he lived with and immigrated to US with, maybe his mother ELIZABETH PROCTOR

How do I get a look at or get somebody to do this for me? I need help. Not sure how to go about this.

Joseph Cole, b. ~1789 in Pennsylvania

I am searching for information about my ancestor Joseph Cole, who was born ~1789 in Pennsylvania and died after 1860 in Iowa. He was married to a woman named Rebecca, who was born ~1792 in Pennsylvania and died after 1870. They had at least four children: Elizabeth, Anna, Hannah, and Eleazar. From 1820 to 1850, Joseph & Rebecca were living in Ridgeville, OH (which is part of Cuyahoga County in 1820). In 1860 they were living in Cedar County, IA, very near their daughter Elizabeth, my ancestor, who married a man named John McKenzie.

Does anyone know anything about this family? I know there is another family of Coles in the Lorain County area; however, that family is from Connecticut, not Pennsylvania. In fact, Joseph & Rebecca appear to be one of few Cole families in the area not from Connecticut. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

An ancestor, Christ/Christian Deischer/Deisher/Descher/Descher, may have lived in Lorain Co., between 1870 and 1880, but was not present in the 1870 or 1880 census. Are there any city or county directories, or tax rolls from that time that are available from any source, or could anyone with access possibly do a look-up for me? Christ was born about 1833 and so was an adult, but his family had not arrived from Schleswig-Holstein by this time. He was probably working as a farm hand during this period.

Any kind of assistance or leads would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Joe Leahy

All lived to be over seventy years of age, and four were over eighty years old. But two (brothers) remain, aged respectively eighty-four and eighty-six. She attended school at Hudson, O., and also at Oberlin. She taught the first school at the center in Spencer. Many of her old pupils, among them were Elwood Sooey (Sooy), the Daughertys another reside at Spencer and it was her delight to talk with them of the history of those early days in the wilderness of Spencer, which has since blossomed into houses, farms and fruitful fields.

Feb. 22, 1836, she was united in wedlock to Elihu M. Spencer. On the same evening her sister, Mary A. Spencer, eldest of the family, was married to Gilbert Jefferies. They were married in Penfield (Lorain Co.), the Rev. Joel Talcott officiating, who was at that time pastor of the Presbyterian church at Wellington (Lorain Co.).

They settled in Oberlin (Lorain Co.) and used their means to help the young and struggling college in the early days of its history. They went to Kentucky to teach in the fall of 1842, in the days of slavery agitation, having with them as one of their company, Miss Delia A. Webster, a Vermont lady of fine endowment. In 1844, Mrs. Spencer left Kentucky to pay a visit to a married sister in Illinois.

At the same time Mrs. Spencer returned to Ohio, leaving Miss Webster to pursue her teaching in Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Spencer came through the “underground railroad,” crossing the Ohio River in an open carriage with a colored driver and earning the everlasting gratitude of the colored people by bring to “liberty the pursuit of happiness” a valuable slave. Among the friends who assisted her on this occasion was the lamented John J. Blanchard, who after the late civil war became president of Wheaton college in Illinois, and Calvin Fairbanks who was freed from Kentucky state’s prison by President Lincoln.

Mrs. Spencer returned to the Penfield home of the Spencer family and for several years lived the quiet life on the farm. But in 1856 she with her husband again took up residence in Oberlin. Her only child, a son, died in 1880. The companion of her youth was laid to rest in 1888. She had six grandchildren: three preceded her to the better land; three are still living; and one great-grand child.

Oberlin was her chosen and cherished home for many years; but for five or six years past she has made her home with her devoted niece, Mrs. S. D. Oakley, in Spencer. She was one of the charter members of the First Congregational church of Oberlin of which she was a member when she died, having been baptized and received into the church by John J. Shipherd one of the two founders of Oberlin, and one of the constitutional covenanters, and has been a member of the church and covenant sixty-eight years.

(Researched by Francis M. Stuart and posted October 17, 2007)

My ggggrandfather, Jeremiah Newton, was born in Woodbridge, CT in 1802 and appears there in the 1830 census. He disappears from the local records until 1845, when he reappears in New Haven, CT. Most of his children were born in Connecticut, although later census records list his daughter, Jennie, as having been born in Ohio in 1839. A written family history contains a vague reference to his having moved to "New Connecticut." The 1840 census lists a "J. Newton" in Russia, Lorain County, which would have been part of Connecticut's Western Reserve, right? Anyone have any info that would confirm the presence of Newtons from Woodbridge, Ct, in Ohio, however briefly, around 1840?
She is alone in the census in 1870, but disappears prior to 1880. I have found the online transcriptions for the Old Belden cemetery for Charles Stevens, her husband, and her children and spouses, where they are buried, but I can not find any record anywhere of the death of Lucinda (Jones) Stevens. She was born 28 Jun 1810 in Tyringham, Berkshire, Mass, and came to Ohio (Mantua) in 1814 with her parents, Reuben & Philenia Jones.

I would be grateful to anyone who may have access to cemetery records that could help me locate her burial site, or death date.

(Noah) Hinman Hurd and Anna Drakeley

Looking for anyone with informtion on the Noah Hurd family. I believe this is Hinman Hurd who married Anna Drakeley 12 Sep 1802 in New Haven, CT. I could not ever find Hinman Hurd in the census but found Noah and had Hinman's death 16 Sep 1836 in Ohio and found Anna living in Lorain County in 1840.

Noah Hurd is listed in 1820 as Noah H Hurd in Woodbury, CT. Then in 1830, Noah Hurd is listed in Lorain County, OH. He is not listed after that.

I think Horace Hurd, b. ca. 1804 in CT is their first child. Horace married Saphronia Crandel 13 Nov 1828.

Using census records, I believe there are another 6 children (3 sons, 3 daughters), but possibly more.

One son may be Thomas D (possibly Drakeley) Hurd who married Caroline Bassett in Lorain County 13 Nov 1840. It appears he died before 1850, leaving one daughter, Henrietta. Caroline then married Abraham Fuller , so in 1850, Henrietta is listed as Henrietta Fuller. Henrietta Hurd married Dwight Munson Turner 6 May 1867. Interestinly, I found a book reference on Henrietta (Drakeley) Turner stating she was born in Cottage Grove, WI and was the daughter of Thomas Drakeley and Caroline Hurd or Bassett. The Drakeley family on Lorain County did indeed move onto Cottage Grove, but I do not think Henrietta was born there, and as stated above, I think her father was Thomas Drakeley Hurd.

Other possible children:
Anna Hurd who married Caleb S Curtis, 2 Nov 1834
Augusta Hurd (b. 27 Dec 1827, OH)who married Nathan F Frary 29 Dec 1847
Sherman C Hurd (b. 1824, NY-source has Sheldon as father)who married Emily J Cornell 10 Mar 1844
*Emily Ophelia Hurd (b. ca 1807, d. 26 Feb 1830) who married Ezra Squires 11 Dec 1828
*Marietta Hurd (b. ca 1809, CT) who married Ezra Squires 6 Feb 1831
*Catherine Hurd (b. ca 1821,CT) who married William R Taylor 13 Sep 1843

Any help in this will be greatly appreciated.

I am working on a website at www.oldohioschools.com and would like to know the years. Thanks!
I know he was born in Urichsville, Ohio 1-19-1888 and married Harriet Courter, from Essex, New Jersey in 1914-15 and they were divorced by the mid 1930s. Michael and Harriet had possibly 4 children: Howard?, Katherine, Irene, and Patricia. I do believe Michael ended up living with his mother and the Doyle's. From the 1930's til Michael's death 12/21/1951 is a mystery. Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!
I am looking for information about members of the Abel and Abigail Harrington family which moved to Grafton, Lorain Co. about 1844 from Cattaraugus Co. NY. Abel had died by 1850. That Census showed a son James, age 25 as head of household with his mother Abigail. The other children were Mahlon, Joseph, Josiah, Chester (b. 1838), John (b. 1841), and Elisha (b. 1845 in Ohio). Based on the Dayton, NY Census for 1840, there could have been an older son and one or two daughters. The last name was spelled Herrington in 1840 and Harringtonn in 1850. Abel was probably born in Vermont.

I recently discovered many wonderful Sage pictures posted on the Lorain Co., Ohio web site. In trying to match them with my records I uncovered one inconsistency. I am asking for any help resolving the issue.

Russ Sage has posted pictures of Alonzon Blossom Sage (1819-1869) and Luther Madison Sage (1827- ) suggesting they are brothers. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eohlorain/pictures/SageAlnzLth.htm

Russ suggests they are sons of I isaac Sage and Anna Rice.
However, the Charles H Sage (CHS) genealogy does not list Luther among the children of Isaac. Furthermore he has Isaac’s wife as Polly Rice. [Another source suggests her name was Mary.]

CHS does report that Charles Rice Sage (son of Isaac) had a son Luther M b. 1827. He also has Charles Rice Sage married to Ann Rice.

If CHS is correct Alonzo would be Luther’s uncle not his brother.

I am also curious about the relationship if any between Charles Rice Sage’s wife Ann Rice and Charles’ mother, Polly Rice.

Can anyone help straighten this out.

Source: Charles H. Sage, Genealogical Record of the Descendants of David Sage, Charles H. Sage, Pub 1919 Batavia, NY. pg. 23.

I am looking for information about my ggggrandfather, Marcus Spencer Bartlett. He shows up in the census for Lorain County in 1850, 1860, 1870 &1880. Death date is 1896, but I haven't been able to locate an obit. He was married to Julia Ann Coykendall, who died in 1869. Julia Ann is buried in Camden Cemetery in Wellington, OH, but I cannot find a record of his burial. Marcus married a second time in 1870 to Elmira Webster. To my knowledge, they stayed in the area. I have looked in the cemetery indexes for Lorain County and haven't found Marcus listed. Where else should I look?

I am considering coming to Lorain County in the near future and would like to know where genealogical records are kept, and what the hours are that I may use the information.

Thank you.
Would someone be able to find out for me if "Jenny" Scheffel Marshall died in Elyria around 1954 or 1955 (I think in July)? That segment of the death index is not available to me outside Lorain Co. Her nephew who is now dead told me she would have been 97 on the day she was buried. The 1900 census for Ottawa Co. says she was born Jul of 1858. She was in Elyria when her brother died in 1941. I went to Columbus to the Bureau of Vital Statistics, but they did not have her listed-at least as "Jenny" Marshall. I don't know what first name she might have had. She was married to William Marshall; I don't think she had remarried before dying. Thank you for any help.
