Sorry for the repost but hope that I can reach someone about this picture of the Huber family.
I received it after first posted but lost the majority of my genealogy records in Hurricane Rita. I am trying to get a copy of this picture if anyone has it. I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I have an Ersula Gray, who married John Henry Cullison on 26 Jun 1828 in Logan County, Ohio. Her father's name was said to be William, and there is a William Gray who died in Bellfontaine, Logan County in 1842. He had 10 children, George, Andrew,Mary, Vincent, Eliphas, Eli, Ersula, John, Peter, William. The father, William was shown as being born in Maryland. The first five children were born in Maryland, probably between 1798 and 1806. The next 5 children were born between 1809 and 1819 in Logan County. At least George, Vincent and Eli died in Logan County. I am still trying to connect this family to their Maryland roots. Ersula named one of her children Hiram and he was born in 1834.

It appears that the individuals in the Union County newspaper item in 1860 belong to your line.

For example, Phoebe Euans married James STOKES (Rachel STOKES and Delilah STOKES GRUBBS are individuals named).

Also, Phoebe Euans Stokes dau. Lucy Ann married George H. WEAVER (Eliz. Ann WEAVER is a individual named).

Phoebe Euans Stoke's daughter Delilah married Wm. S. GRUBBS. Both of these individuals are named.

Phoebe Euans Stoke's daughter Rebecca married Wm. SMITH. There are four SMITH individuals named. Perhaps their daughters (and Phoebe's granddaughters)?

And the named Elmina COON's maiden name is SMITH.
Perhaps a sister to the four SMITH individuals?

Joseph EUANS seems to be the odd ball because he is not Phoebe's son or grandson (however, he is a family member) AND he is entitled to a larger share of the real estate proceeds than the others.

This is very interesting information - thank you very much! I'd like to obtain a copy of the 1853 quit claim deed - would you have the volume and page number? It would make it easier to obtain. If not, because you've provided the date, it might be located that way if the deed was recorded near the date of April 26, 1853. In any case, I'm going to try to obtain a copy. You stated that Joseph made an application for bounty land -would this be for his service in 1812?
Delila Stokes (as it's spelled in the family bible I have) was the daughter of Phebe Euans (daughter of Moses) and James Stokes. She married William S. Grubbs Dec 1, 1850 (as you stated)

Moses Euans and Rebecca Stokesberry (Parents of Phebe Euans Stokes) did have a son, Joseph.
Joseph dies in 1851 - he has made application for bounty land and has secured a warrant for 40 acres, which had been disposed of legally (per his wife Melvina in 1855). He had three wives bu tno sons names Joseph. He seems the most likely Jospeh for this land.

I also found the following:

a deed in the Court House at Bellefountain Ohio dated April 26, 1853- Silas Euans and his wife Deborah quit claimed 113 acres in Zane Township, Logan County Ohio, to Joseph Euans. This deed was signed by Silas & Debora Euans abd acknowledged before Notary in Andrew County, MO. Other names appearing in this same survery are Silas, Aaron, Moses, William, and Levi Euans, who also transferred their interest in the tract to Joseph Euans.

I can dig more - but perhaps this helps?

Since you are a STOKES, perhaps you can help me on another matter. I found a Union Co.newspaper item dated May 25, 1860. In it, Wm. S. Grubbs and his wife Deliah are asking the court to sell real estate to satisfy an earlier partition. Wm. & Delilah/Deliah have a 1/7th interest in the sale proceeds. The other individuals and their interests are as follows:

Rachel STOKES 1/7
Joseph EUANS 3/7
Eliz. Ann WEAVER 1/7
Rachel, Amanda, Roda Rebeca, & Arminda Jane SMITH, along with Brice COON & wife Elmina - 1/7

Elmina COON's maiden name is SMITH. So the common surnames here appears to be either SMITH or STOKES, since Delilah Grubbs is also a STOKES (Wm. S. Grubbs & Delilah married Dec 1, 1850, Logan Co. OH).

I'm wondering if someone died so these are the individuals in the will who have an interest in the real estate to be sold, and if this is the case, who died and how do we come up with this ratio of shares? Joseph Euans has 3/7, more than anyone else.

Forgot to mention - I have the book, by Clifton Clark Euans and Rohease rown Clark, whihc outlines the Euans family - it includes a wealth of information on Cowgill, Inskeep and Stokes families as well as a number of others. ( I am a Stokes).

There isn't information on who Polly's father was. Moses seems to have considered her his daughter, evidence of this is that her marriage record in Culpeper County lists her maiden name as Euans. Early family records do not include Polly as his daughter hiowever. It seems she was very young when Moses and Rebecc married, and no mention is made of her fathe (or of a previous marriage for Rebecca).
As for Ewan (verses Euans) -depending on the rcord, his name has been spelled various ways.

Thanks for your response. Your information seems to conflict with the marriage record that I have for Moses and Rebecca or maybe I'm just reading your reply wrong.

Moses EWAN married Rebecca STOKESBERRY in 1782 in Burlington, NJ.

If Polly was the daughter of Rebecca and not Moses, was Rebecca married to another EUANS in order to be Polly's mother?

Polly was the daughter of Moses' wife Rebecca. Don't have birth information on her. She married John Cowgill in Culpeper County VA in 1801. They moved to Columbiana, OH and to Logan CO OH in about 1807. I have much infomation on these families and descend from Moses through his daughter Phebe.

Elisabeth

Hi Barbara-

I have Susannah Elizabeth Kearns who married Thomas Elwood in Logan County, Ohio in 1834. Do you know if Michael Kearns had a daughter Susanna? Have you seen his will as I've started the process of inquiring about it to see if she may be listed. Susannah had a son she named Michael Elwood. I'm hoping Michale may be her father.

Right, I found that and that is where I concluded that Dorothy was either the niece (she had an uncle that located in Logan Co.) or sister (she and her brother came to the States together and his name is not mentioned, but age-wise, she would fit there also).
Sometimes it all starts to fall in place. G>> and sometimes it causes more questions than it did answers. But it will come together.
Thanks again and good luck in your searches!

Thanks so much for your time and effort. These are the possible solutions I had come up with also but it always helps to run it by someone else. I will check into the obits and possibly there is something in probate that will help.
Thanks again!
Jan

I think you are well on your way---
there is a bio in the History of Shelby Co. Ohio on John and Dorothy's son - also named John. It states that "Miss Dorothy Rexer" was a native of Malmsheim, Germany, and she came to Logan in 1848 where she "had an uncle living".

I suggest you check immigration records for Dorothy to find her brother's name.

If you Google "Dorothy Rexer" you will get a hit on the book, History of Logan County and Ohio (Perrin) and find her marriage to John M. Rausenberger on Sept. 10, 1848 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born Oct. 31, 1819 in Wurtenburg and immigrated to Baltimiore "with a brother" in 1847. John Rausenberg's bio mentions a bro-in-law M. Maier and his wife's uncle as F. Mohr. Much more on John M. Rausenberger here....

I am just helping out if possible...and had more time to look into this Lucy. I am pretty sure this is the same Lucy in the 1870 Logan Co. census with John G. Rexer that was the former wife of Truman Jackson of Champaign Co.(found there in the 1860 census). I have since discovered that Truman served in Ohio Inf Reg 95 Co. G. and he died on or before June 16, 1865, which is when his widow applied for a widow's pension and a minor pension. I suspect Lucy's maiden name was WILDER because I located the marriage record of John G. REXER and Lucy WILDER in Logan Co. on June 21, 1870. (It's either her maiden name or she married a WILDER after Truman's death which would make her a short-term bride.) If this is Lucy and your John, his death most likely happened in Champaign County where I find them in the 1880 census. By the 1900 census here, Lucy is a widow. Perhaps you can obtain obits on both John and Lucy to see if there is any mention of surviving children/step-children.
