I am in the same line, descended from Lorenzo Dow Mitchell who married Catherine Meek of Coshocton Co., OH. I would like to know more about Abel Mitchell, and about John Mitchell his father. If you want to e-mail me at home, the address is nimblethimble53@yahoo.com.

I read a sad tale about an Abel Mitchell (l750-afterl883) who was a Revolutionary soldier who applied for pension when he was a very old man in l883 and was turned down because there was no witness to the information (Well no...I guess they had all died!) He was living with a son Abel Mitchell ...who had recently lost a leg...he was a journeyman tailor....and the old man's wife was blind. He was living in Philadelphia.

I know the Meek family came to Coshocton from PA. Is that what the Mitchells did too? And could the Abel above or his son be a brother to our John. Maybe they named our Abel after him or something?

And I have another question to pick your brains on. The above "Sad Abel" was born in London...and came to Baltimore, Md. l769. Is that what you expect to find when you go back far enough on our line?

I thought our Mitchells were German in origin. My great-grandma Catherine Meek Mitchell spoke German, and it is remembered that the Mitchells prayed long prayers in German in their home...(by someone who probubly wished they hadn't been quite so long!).

What think ye?
