As I research I am beginning to wonder if Sebastian Venus'(1803-?) daughter Amelia (1833- 1917)is that of his possible first wife, Theodora (1808 - 1839), and not his second wife Elizabeth (Amend)(1820-?). I also see that Frank Amend (husband of Amelia)is on the 1850 census along with the rest of Sebastian, Elizabeth and their children. Could this possibly be Elizabeths brother? The ages work. I have all the circumstancial evidence but nothing to prove my theory.
If anyone has proof please contact me.

Huron County Cemetery Inscriptions Lookup Request: Lots of Watts

I'm working to trace the descendants of George and Elizabeth Watts, who emigrated from England in 1845 and I believe settled in Ripley, Huron, Ohio by 1865 -- where they can be found in the 1870 census.

I've copied the following from the HCC Index and tried to arrange it by surname and page number. I suspect that page 829 is Edwards Grove Cemetery in Ripley. I've also tried to add basic information for those individuals whom I think I've identified.

Request HCC lookups for the following. Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

... He married Fedelia Parsons (also spelled Phedelia) who was b 9 June 1811 and d 9 July 1901 in Ohio. They are both buried in Steuben Cemetery, Huron Co., OH. I have pictures of their headstones. I am trying to find a marriage date and complete listing of their children. I know of one, Dayton Lewis Green b 1857 in Huron Co., Ohio. He married Lillis Mae Wheeler who was b 14 Nov 1861 and d 2 Feb 1933 in Akron, Summit, OH. They are also buried in Steuben Cemetery, Huron Co., OH. I also have pictures of their headstones.

Up to Fedelia Parsons I've been able to find listing of the family but have hit a brick wall after her marriage. Philip and Fedelia were my gggrandparents. Trying to gather this information for my mother, who is 80 years, as this is her family.

Thank you.

I am trying to find more information on the Horace Child/Childs who lived and died in Huron County, Ohio. In every census, he gives a different state for place of birth. He died in 1883 in Huron County, and is buried in Day Cemetery. He was married to Sally Ames, who was about 15 years younger than he was. Could he have been married before.
In 1830 there was a Horace Childs in Pittsfield, Rutland County, Vermont, and he is gone from there by 1840, and then I find Horace and Sally in Huron County, Ohio.

Of their six children only 2 survived, as the others died as children. Henry stayed in Huron County, married and divorced according too his death certificate.
Ezra Stewart, 1876

Died, in Plymouth, Richland Co., Ohio, October 9th., 1876, Hon. Ezra Stewart, aged 81 years. Judge Stewart was born in Lyme, New London Co., Connecticut, July 28th., 1795. First settled in New Haven, Huron Co., Ohio in 1821. Returned east with his family on account of sickness, in 1825; in 1840 he returned to New Haven township, where he continued to reside until his death. In early life Judge Stewart united with the Presbyterian Church, and for nearly sixty years he maintained a very high character as a consistent Christian gentleman. Beloved and respected by the people of Huron County, he was, in 1842, appointed an associate judge for that county, which office he held for a term of seven years. As a business man, he had the confidence of the community in which he lived. Probity was the rule of his life, and sterling integrity marked every business transaction in which he engaged. In politics he was an old line democrat, and was an ardent supporter of Mr. Douglass for the presidency. When Fort Sumter fell, however, he was among the first of his party in Huron Co., to declare it to be his purpose to give a hearty support to Mr. Lincoln in putting down the rebellion. The leading republicans of Huron County, wishing to give some token of their appreciation of the man for the noble stand thus taken so early in the war, nominated and elected him to represent the people of that county in the Ohio Legislature, for the session of 1862-3. Judge Stewart leaves a widow -- his second wife, five sons and two daughters by his first wife. In his death his family lose a kind and affectionate husband and father, and the people of Huron County will remember him as an honest, faithful public servant, ever ready to extend a generous helping hand in every good word and work. Rooney of Kipton, and Anna and Elnora at home.
The funeral was very largely attended from St. Mary's Church. In Wakeman, Monday, and burial in the Catholic cemetery in Wakeman. Rev.
Just found an obituary for my ggg grandfather James Dury in the January, 1849 Huron Reflector. Seems he had been drinking with a friend on January 26 and 2 days later was pulled out of a branch of the Vermillion river in Fitchville Township. Since I live in Nebraska, how could I find a death certificate, if any did exist? Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to know how I can find more on these two relatives and whether I could obtain obits for them
They both died in Monroeville, Huron, Ohio and according to records buried at Riverside Cemetery.

In other states able to access information myself but unfortunately not able to do this in Ohio. This couple had 7 children James born c 1864, John 1866, Sarah 1868, William 1872, Margaret 1874, Henry 1976 and Edith 1880.

I found this information on the new LDS site and looking to find anything at all on them.

Many thanks Patricia, Manchester, England

HCC Lookup Request: Nickoli, Rummel, Krabach

I need a lookup for the following:

John Nickoli born about 1843 died between 1900 and 1905. His wife is Mary Ann. I presume he is at St. Paul's in Norwalk.

Sebastian Rummel born 1825 died 2 Jul 1924 in Norwalk.

Dennis Krabach sometimes spelled Dionys is buried at St. Alphonsus, but I cannot read the dates on his stone. His wife is Mary Verena or Sephrona Krabach. I have no dates for her either.

Dennis Krabach's mother is probably buried at St. Alphonsus also. Her name was Eva Margaretha Krabach. I believe she died about 1834 in Huron County.

Thank you!
Darlene Mazurik

I would like to request a lookup of the following individuals found in the HCC index.

GORRELL
JH, 408
JM, 427
MARY D MACOMBER, 436

Mary D Macomber Gorrell is Mary Drusilla Macomber, daughter of William J Macomber and Elsie M Ferguson of Blooming Grove, Richland, Ohio.

James M and Mary D Gorrell can be found in the 1880, 1900, and 1910 census records living in New London. The 1900 census indicates that Mary Gorrell had one living child but that child is not living with them in the 1880 or 1900 census records.

Per the Ohio death index on Ancestry.com, Mary D Gorrell died 24 Apr 1918 in Huron County. James M Gorrell is still living in 1920 in New London as a widower.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

...

Please help me! I am looking for a man named "Roddy".
He should be in his 50's or early 60's I am guessing. I am looking for a man that could possibly be my biological father. I am 24 years old and all I know is that there is a man named Roddy (that's what everyone called him 24 years ago anyways) who is tall and rugged and is from Huron. I figure Huron is small enough that someone must know of him, especially if he is still hanging out in the bars. :) I know it seems odd to post this, but I thought I would write few people from Huron to see if anyone knows of him. I would appreciate any info or advice you could give me. Thank you for reading this and hopefully I will hear from you soon! Kayte_99@hotmail.com

Bradford Drinkwater b. 1794 ME>OH

I am looking for information on a Bradford Drinkwater. I believe him to be the son of Zenas Drinkwater and Cynthia Pendleton from Maine. He was born feb 24, 1794 and married Sylvina Morton on july 30, 1816 in Northport, Maine.

I found Bradford Drinkwater in Muskingum County in 1820, but lose track of him after the 1820 census. He has two young sons "under the age of 10" according to the census and is in the Putnam area (Muskingum County).

Very recently, I received information that he may have died in Huron County, Ohio on July 10, 1850. Does anyone know of any Huron county, resources that I could check out to verify this date? It would make sense if he did end up in Huron County. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my posting.

Location of Fitch's Corners in Huron County ?

Am proof reading the index I'm creating for people mentioned in captions of photos of buildings in the 1896 book, Picturesque Huron County. Am including locations of the more obscure places. Have found most using the Delorme Ohio Atlas and Gazetteer, but haven't found Fitch's Corners. There are a few homes that are shown as located in Lyme Township, between Fitch's and Hunt's Corners. Hunt's corners is in the SE corner of Lyme Township. So it is possible that Fitch's corners itself is not in Lyme Township, as there is room for homes to be on roads leading out of Hunt's Corners.
Anyone know where Fitch's Corners is located - i.e. intersection of which modern day roads?
Once I finish proof reading my entries, I'll submit it to the Huron County genealogy website and I hope to have time to be able to send scans of the photos to interested folks.

I just found a daughter of Francis James and Ann Hill's daughter, Lavendar Ann, married Edgar Leland CLARK abt 1889 probably in Lorain Co., OH. They resided in Clarksfield, Huron Co., OH and had two children that lived, Jean b: Jun 1892 (single on 1930 census in Ashland Co.) and Dow Jay b: 16 Feb 1897. Dow married Marie _?_ about 1918 and had (by 1930)children: Doris b: Nov 1919, Dow Jay Jr. b: 1922, Edgar O b: 1926 and Blanche b: 1928. By WWII Dow was living in Warren, Trumbull Co., OH and on his WWII draft registration listed his closest relative as his mother, Anna, who was living in Cleveland. Edgar died between 1920 and 1930 census as on the 1930 census Anna b: Jul 1865, is listed as a window and her spinster sister, Minnie, b: May 1858, was living with her.

Lavender Anna and Minnie are children of Francis James Sr. and Ann (Hill) WELLS. Other children to the marriage were Sarah Ann b: 1851, Louuisa Maria 1856, John Hill b: May 1860, Frederick M Jul 1867, and Bell E 1869. They grew up in Wellington, Lorain Co., OH 1870+, and resided in Wakeman, Huron Co, OH, during 1850-1860s. Francis James is the eldest son of my 'brick wall', James Wells b: 13 Mar 1792 and Persis (Earle) b: 1792 .. both are buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Huron Co., OH.

If you know anything additional about this family, I would love to talk to you.

Bonita
Abner Mack was born in Hampshire County, MA in 1794-1795 (maybe August 09, 1795). He died in Kalamazoo County, MI on Jun 27 1881 – 87 years old. His wife was Maria Munger.

In the 1820 United States Federal Census for Peru, Huron County, Ohio there is a Daniel Mack listed and an Abner Mack listed. I was wondering if anyone has researched this particular family and has any proof of how Daniel Mack and Abner Mack are related to each other?

I’ve been told that Abner’s father was Abner Mack who married Irena Wood and his grandfather was Elisha Mack who was married to Diadama Rathburn. (I don’t know if it’s true or not). Does anyone know if this family line has been proven?

If anyone has researched this Mack family line and has copies of any records (I’ve already looked up census records) from when Abner lived in Ohio or Massachusetts; or has any copies of records proving whom his parents or siblings were; or can prove how Abner is related to Daniel Mack; please contact me.

Thanks,
Sherry
WELLS of Huron, Erie and Lorain Cos. OH

I have been trying to piece together the family of Ezekiel WELLS and Elizabeth BROWN (31 Oct 1769 - 25 Jan 1852). I found her burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk, Huron Co., OH. The children I have (not a complete list -- probably): Roswell b: 1794, Lucy b: 1798, Charles b: c1799, Josiah b: c 1801 and Theodore H b: c 1802.

Ezekiel is not listed as being buried next to his wife, Elizabeth, at least according to the Huron Co. Cemetery listing. He does not appear on the 1850 census so I believe he died prior to 1850 ... but WHERE?

Any information on this family ... and if any male descendant has participated in DNA study would be more than welcome. I don't know if there is a connection to my James Wells (13-Mar-1792 - 03 Jul 1870) also buried in Woodlawn next to his wife, Persis EARLE (20 Oct 1792 VT - 20 Dec 1866). I don't know if James deserted or divorced Persis but she was listed on the 1850 census as a "widow" -- (she was living in the household of her son-in-law, Erastus Ivory.)
I would like to request Huron County Cemetery lookups for George & Mary Ann Fritz and some of their children.

My g-g grandparents were George and Mary Ann (Holtz) Fritz -- who both died in Clarksfield, Huron County. Mary Ann died on 2 March 1911 and George died on 24 Sept 1916. Both were immigrants, George from Alsace Lorraine (b: 1833) and Mary from Germany (Island of Poel / Pohl?) (b: 1837).

The Huron County Cemetery index shows the following entries:

FRITZ
GEORGE, 47, 285, 804
MARY, 47
MARY A, 788

This might indicate that "my" George & Mary Ann Fritz are on page 47.

George & Mary Ann had 11 (out of as many as 18) surviving children. The HCC index also shows the following which I believe could be / are George & Mary Ann's children:

FRITZ
Albert, 52
Frank, 47, 475
Charles A, 52

GRAVES
TESSIE FRITZ, 52

STILES
MARY A, 56
ORNO T, 56
VERNON, 56

Information on the above:

Albert P Fritz, born 1873, shown living in Clarksfield in 1910 census with parents, George & Mary, and brother, Frank.

Frank Fritz, born 16 June 1881, shown living in Clarksfield in 1930 census with sister Tess Fritz Graves.

Charles Fritz, born abt 1874. No census found beyond 1880.

Tess Fritz, born 1877, married W L Graves, shown living in Clarksfield in 1930 census with brother Frank Fritz (above).

Mary Ann Fritz, born Nov 1863, died 5 Apr 1932, Clarksfield, Ohio, married Vernon E Stiles, shown living in Clarksfield in 1930 census.

Orno Tyler Stiles, son of Mary Ann Fritz and Vernon E Stiles, born 1884, died 25 Dec 1918 in Clarksfield

Vernon E Stiles, born 1864, died 1924 in Clarksfield.
