Janis Bumpus, former Mansfield, Ohio (Richland County) resident, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 in Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee.
She was 91.

She was born January 18, 1922 in Greenwich, Ohio (Huron County) to parents Alton and Mabelle (Gleason) Barnes.

Janis was a graduate of Greenwich High School.

On September 27, 1958 she married Vernon H. Bumpus who preceded her in death December 6, 2006.

Janis was an accomplished hair stylist and began her career in California and Florida before opening her very own private styling salon in Mansfield, Ohio which she owned and operated for over 45 years.

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and spent years serving her church family as a Sunday School teacher, a kitchen helper, and as a deacon.
Most memorable and rewarding was her work with the children at the First Presbyterian Pre-School.

In addition to working with children, she loved gardening with her daughter, dancing, sewing, solving jigsaw puzzles, and crafting.
Although she never left the US, Janis enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states.

In her last years she relocated to Tennessee to be near family.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Richard Jr.) Aites of Franklin, TN; grandson, Neal Aites and granddaughter Sydney, Aites; sister, Geneva Marsh of Irvington, VA; brother-in-law, Clifford Bumpus and sister-in-law, JoAnn Bumpus; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janis was preceded in death by siblings, Lois Gretzinger, Mary Scott, and William Barnes.

The family will receive friends 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where her service will immediately follow at 4:30 p.m. The Rev. Richard N. Aites, Sr. will officiate.
A private inurnment will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenwich, OH at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Janis' memory to Children's Hospital may be made at the funeral home.
