Even then, the records were not state records until 1908. And there are other kinds of records besides what I listed as possibly helpful. Church records, family Bibles, newspaper announcements, scrapbooks (the library in Homer, Licking County, has a nice collection of these), township burial records, and personal journals. The last are rare treasures. It seems some people, mostly ladies, made a hobby of documenting births, deaths, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, graduations, anything notable within the community. I have a couple of these from my husband's family in NY that I need to transcribe so someone like me can find their own missing links.
