Donald Lowell "Donnie" Walker

Donald Lowell "Donnie" Walker, 52, of Hillsboro, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at Highland District Hospital.

He was born Oct. 13, 1960 in Chillicothe, the son of James Lowell and Phyllis Ann Webb Walker.

Donnie was a sergeant with the Highland County Sheriff's Department, where he had worked for more than 22 years. During his time with the sheriff's department, he had worked in both the patrol and civil divisions. He had also been an auxiliary officer with the Hillsboro Police Department and was a 1978 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He was a member of Hillsboro Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1161, Highland Masonic Lodge 38, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Among his many hobbies were golf, hunting, farming, cooking and grilling, and he had served as a commissioner at Shaffer Park.

He is survived by his wife, [omitted], whom he married May 28, 1982 at the home of his parents; four sons, [omitted], all of Hillsboro; parents, James L. and Phyllis A. Walker of Hillsboro; brothers,[omitted], both of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews,[omitted]; mother-in-law, [omitted] of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, [omitted] Hillsboro; and brothers-in-law, [omitted], both of Hillsboro.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hillard and Eliza Webb; paternal grandparents, Delmer and Jewell Walker; father-in-law, Bud Barker; and niece, Ashley Barker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Patriot Center on the campus of Southern State Community College in Hillsboro. Tom Stoops will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Market Cemetery with full police honors.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. Masonic services will be held Thursday promptly at 4 p.m. at the church. After Masonic services, the family will depart and return for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Fraternal Order of Police services will be held at 8 p.m. at the church.
