I would be very interested in any research into this family as well. My wife is descended from John R. Brown 1797-186?. This John R. Brown is in Monroe Township in northern Harrison County in 1850 but is in Flushing Township in Belmont County adjacent to Freeport Twp. by the time of his death. He is buried in the Belmont Ridge Cemetery. <br><br>The 1820 Census in Freeport Twp. lists 'John R. Brown Jr.' and 'John Brown Sr.' and my hypothesis is that this is my John R. Brown and his father, which would make my John R. possibly the brother of James K.<br><br>John Amrhein<br><a href="mailto://amrheinja@gmail.com">amrheinja@gmail.com</a>

Need help on Charles Andrews md Elizabeth (maybe Kilborn/Kilbourn ?)- son Edward, had three children- Elizabeth "Amy" Andrews md John Peter, (she was living last living with the Medley's in Noble Co., OH- Charles and Elizabeth's unknown daughter married Wm Medley -(per Charles' will)- William Andrews - I feel this is the Wm Andrews that married Verlinda (Malinda) Peters in 1813- Wm died bef Dec 1849 - Harrison or Tusacarwas Co, OH; was living in 1830 in Morresfield, Harrison Co., OH and 1840 living in Morresfield, Harrison, OH. Malinda Andrews - widow in 1850, living in Clay, Tusacarwas Co, moved to Chaleston, Coles, IL bef 1860 - Edwards; son - Philip Andrews married Phebe/Phoebe LNU, had three daughter also died 1849 - Clay, Harrison Co., OH. My Philip Andrews b 1827, Harrison Co., Ohio (GAR record) - both parents b Maryland, married Mary Ann Wilson - 1851 - Washington Co., OH - can not locate either in 1850, living near Malinda Lnu (Peters?) Andrews - in Charleston, Coles, IL in 1860. Could Philip Andrews (s/o Edward and Ann (Berry?) Cecil), be the Philip Andrews receiving large early land in Illinois, from Military service about 1809? Can any one verify which Edward married Verlina Peters? Do not have any children listed for Elizabeth (Amy) Andrews and John Peters. Have connected Mary Ann Andrews and Angeline Ann Andrews Hillard - Mary Ann was living with Angeline Ann Andrews Hillard family in 1880.

James B. Mehollin (or Maholm) was born 15 Nov 1873 in Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio, to James and Elizabeth Reynolds Maholm. He married Carrie Richmond (source missing) about 1930-32. I was told he was about 60 when they were married; they had five children: James Jr.(1931), Lloyd Ervin(1933)), Martha A.(1935), Phillip(1938), and Dorothy Sue(abt 1939). The family is located in the 1940 census: Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio, ED 34-4, Sheet 14A, Dwelling 302, Line 36, James B. Mehollin Household. James died and later Carrie died in 1946. Phillip also died with his mother in Canton, Stark County, Ohio, on 13 Jan 1946. A space heater was left on all night and the two died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The other children were orphaned. James Jr. married Hisako, Dorothy Sue married Makely Gordon Salter, Lloyd Ervin, my grandfather, married Bobbie Jo Buie.

I hope somebody is still researching this James Wright? I'm so confused! I see that he d. Oct 1878, but where did he live? I can't seem to find him in the census. There is a James Wright in Tuscarawas, who for all years in census was b. aprox 1790 in VA, with the exception of 1870, and he was five years older b in PA that year. I believe the Tuscarawas James Wright was married to Elizabeth Norman in 1836. So the Harrison County James Wright being 106 years old, would have been b. 1772. Any information or clarification for James Wright(s) wife and children if known sure would be appreciated!

Next in 1880 in Mt Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio with son Theodore. James showed himself to be a shoe maker until he listed his occupation as a coal miner in 1880. I believe I am their ggggranddaughter via son Jonah, who lived in Belmont County most of his life. Thanks for any help!

Levi is the son of Gabriel of NJ/Ohio. Sarah and Levi VanSickle were living in Oxford Twp. Coshocton Co. Ohio by 1840.<br>Samuel Sawyer, Sr. was married to a Mary, last name unk. He lived in Lovettsville, Loudoun Co. Va. before coming to Ohio. I can not find Samuel in any census after 1830. <br> I believe that ELIZABETH Sawyer Grewell is related to Samuel Sawyer somehow, most likely a daugher. I just found her the other day listed in Harrison Co. marriage records I am also wondering if she is Samuel's daughter. Do you have anymore information ELIZABETH Sawyer Grewell ?

It's highly unlikely your Wilson was a grandson of Philip Carroll Sr. &amp; his wife Mary. Their oldest son was a John Carroll born April 23, 1798. It is unknown what became of him, no marriage record for him in the area. Their other sons were to young to have had a son by 1817. Ephraim Taylor Carle (various spellings found) &amp; his first wife Mary Irwin had 2 children, Joseph &amp; an unknown. Joseph was born in 1781, &amp; drafted out of Jefferson Co. Ohio during the War of 1812. He &amp; wife Maria Gordon later moved to Belmont Co. Ephraim married Nancy Clarke after his first wife's death. They had 7 children, none named Wilson. Their oldest son was John born 1793, next son was Nathaniel born 1798.

I have Wilson William Carl (often spelled as Carrel in earlier censuses) who moved from Salem Twp Jefferson County Ohio to Meigs County, Ohio around 1850. He was born about 1817 in Ohio and died about 1880. He married Elizabeth Swickard (dau of Daniel and Margaret Easterday Swickard) in Jefferson County in 1838. I am unsure where in Ohio he was born, and I am unsure of who his parents were. Could Wilson William Carl been one of Mary's grandchildren since he was born after Philip Sr's death in 1813?

Mary Carroll, widow of Philip Carroll Sr. was listed in the 1830 census in Harrison Co. with 1 son who has to be Phillip Jr. born about 1812. Philip Sr. died as a prisoner of war in Dec. 1813. Mary, maiden name unknown, was unable to care for her 9 children. She lined them up &amp; ask families to take a child. The oldest 6 were taken in by various familes, but exactly what happened to the youngest 3 is a mystery. It's said she had a total breakdown which lasted for several years. Legal papers show guardians were appointed for the oldest 6. The family lived in Jefferson Co. at that time, but it later became part of Harrison Co. due to county line changes. My ancestor is Phillip Jr who married Mariah (sometimes called Marie) Feltenberger Sept. 13, 1832 in Harrison Co. According to recently found info he was adopted by an Olinger family, but am not certain what was meant by adopted. It's likely he remained in the legal custody of his mother, but was taken care of by the family for a time. About the estimated time of his mother's death in the mid 1830's he added the Olinger name to his own becoming Phillip Carroll Olinger. By doing so there must have been a strong connection to the Olingers. The only explanation I can think of for doing this at such a late date was to avoid upsetting his mother. The nearest Olinger family seems to be in Tuscarawas Co. where John &amp; Christian lived. There was also an Ephraim Taylor Carle who died Dec. 18, 1837 in Harrison Co, a Rev. War vet. It's said the early spelling of the Carroll name was sometimes Carle or Carrell. There may, or may not, be a relationship, but both came from the Allegheny Co. Pennsylvania area just before moving to Ohio. Phillip &amp; family moved to Indiana just prior to 1840.

He and Lucy are buried in Douglas County, Oregon. I haven't tracked the Haines family backward.<br>"They say" the Irish like to stay connected. <br>Robert was an extremely tall man for someone born in 1819, alleged to be over 7 foot tall. He was a pioneer from Illinois to Oregon. He is one of those men who is easy to track genealogically because he and his sons were frequently written up in newspapers.

Hi Bettye,John Milliken was a shoemaker and married a lady named Hannah Karbaugh, a native of PA. They came to Ohio and settled in Green Twp, Harrison Co. They remained there for some time and then removed (in 1815) to the farm where their son, Michael, lived. They were the parents of 14 children. It could be that one of the 14 children was a female who married and named James with her maiden name, as a a middle name. I do know that James father's name was Mark and he came from England. I have worked on this line for quite awhile with little success. My Nancy Milliken (as listed on her marriage record) married a Jesse Haines and they serttled in Noble Co, Ohio. In the Haines Family church Cemetery there is someone buried there named Milligan. On a couple of the death certificates for Haines children they state the mother was a Milligan. It drives me crazy!

I don't know your John Milikin. However, there might be a connection between my James Hutchinson family from Antrim, Ireland. James immigrated in 1811 to New Jersey, married there and then moved his family to Ohio. He named his third son, Robert with the middle name Milligan. Robert was born in 1819 in Green, Harrison, Ohio. James left Ohio for Illinois before 1832. I haven't been able to find any connection to anyone with the last name, Milligan.<br>Bettye <br>

Marvin Barr - I notice that on Rootsweb you list "Tunnel Hill" Cemetery in Monroe Township as Finley CRUMRINE's burial place. I think you could be absolutely correct, but I would love to know your source for that. Tunnel Hill is one of several cemeteries I've been focusing on in my search for Finley's grave. One correspondent on "Crumrine Family Genealogy Forum" (at Genealogy.com), Diana Miller, remembers seeing a headstone for Finley at Tunnel Hill years ago, but when she returned there to confirm it for me she could no longer find it among numerous unreadable or missing stones. The Monroe Township Cemetery Inscriptions book by the Harrison County Chapter of OGS did not find a headstone for Finley at Tunnel Hill when they enumerated the markers there (in the late 1980s or 1990s, I believe). That book also includes an earlier reading of the headstones there from the 1960s that doesn't list Finley either. So it must have gone missing or unreadable quite a while ago. So, while I think you may be absolutely right, I have simply failed so far myself to find any documentation. What is the source of your info? Many thanks. Cheers, - Mike Kagay

I'm really impressed familysearch continues to add more records and stays free, I hope they stay that way! I got the record for John's headstone application and didn't see any connection to the family for Rodney SIMONTON the man who ordered it, Rodney did live in Deersville as a child though.<br><br>The percentage is high that Finley as well as other family members have unmarked graves. I have searched for John Barr's father Thomas's grave for years and have had no luck, though a few people have a grave associated with him the date for that mans birth is over 20 years too late. John's mother Emily Fincer BARR is buried at the Harrison County Infirmary in an unmarked grave.<br><br>I firmly believe Finley is the Finley Poland from the 1870 census and Henry and Mary Givens CRUMRINE became his adoptive parents. This gives another possible location for his burial at Plum Run Cemetery in Harrison County where Henry CRUMRINE, his father is buried. It wouldn't be the first time someone used a false age in order to be married.<br>I've noticed it several times.

But maybe I'm being too hasty in ruling out the possibility that Finley CRUMRINE is buried in a BARR family plot at Patterson Cemetery, Deersville. On the application for John BARR's military headstone in 1933 it says: "This application is for the UNMARKED grave of a veteran" (emphasis in original). That implies that 25 years after his death John BARR still had no permanent marker on his grave. And that suggests that his wife, Sarah Underhill BARR, might also be buried nearby, likewise unmarked. And, if so, why not their son-in-law Finley CRUMRINE, too? This family may have been simply too poor to provide stone markers to their deceased. (But Mahala's brother is also buried at Patterson and he does have a marker, I believe. I should check that with the Franklin Township cemetery inscription book.) Would Patterson Cemetery have a master list of burials, I wonder?
