Osborn family in Hardin County

Does anyone have any death information of JACOB, (b. abt 1811) and his wife AMY, (b. abt. 1816) OSBORN? They were found in the 1850 census in Pleasant Twp. and 1860 in Taylor Creek Twp. The census shows they had at least 10 children, Sarah, Samuel, Ann, George, Isaac, Mary, Ruamy (she married WESLEY NEWLAND in 1871), Edwin, Andrew, Martha. After the 1860 census I lost track of the family except for Ruamy (spelling variations)who died in 1876. Does anyone have any death records or cemetery inscriptions of Jacob, Amy Osborn or Rhuamy Newland? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have just finished my overhaul of the Hardin County Schools page on my website.

http://www.oldohioschools.com/hardin_county.htm

I am still missing quite a few pictures of some of the old schools as well as some dates and locations. Please check out the new page and let me know what you think or if you can help with any other information. It now loads much faster and is more user-friendly for people wanting to only view a certain county.

David Wlter Hites

Hello all. I am looking for any info anyone might have

for my great-grandfather, David Walter Hites (1853 or

1860-1951). There is much conjecture as to his birthplace

and date. I have seen records listing birthplace as IL,

Butler Co IA, and Hardin Co OH. I have read a message on

ancestry from Bill Baughman (another of his

great-grandchildren) mentioning his trips to visit family

in Butler Co. where our ancestors laid claim to the area

that was once known as Hitesville. From records that I

have seen, D.W.'s parents both died when he was young. I

am unsure whom he was living with after his parens died. I

did uncover a census record showing him living with a Mr.

Lawrance. However, I lost the link to that when my

computer crashed. I know that he has lived in both Hardin

and Logan counties in OH. Any help would be greatly

appreciated.

I am looking for information relating to Bryce Mayard's mother. Bryce was born around 1822 near Hardin Co Oh and I believe he was the son of Benjamin Maynard who was born around 1782 in Maryland. I think his mother was named Eve. Can anyone verify this parentage and tell me Eve' maiden name?

Hello,
I am working on a project for my Master's Degree documenting old schools in Ohio. My website is www.oldohioschools.com

This site is for the schools built after the one-room era. I am looking for pictures and information on any schools from the late 1800s through the mid 1900s.

The categories are :

Gone- Schools which have been razed

Abandoned- Schools which are closed and not used for any other purpose

Endangered- Schools which are closing soon or have recently closed and likely to become abandoned or razed

Retired- Schools which are not used as public classroom buildings but serve in some other capacity (apartments, offices, etc)

Functional- Schools still in use as classroom buildings

I would appreciate any updates to the information I already have posted, such as dates and locations, as well as any pictures or new information to post. Please contact me at aaronturner@Neo.rr.com if you can help!

Class photo of Williams School in McDonald Twp. - 1901

Recently I received photos from my older sister which had belonged to my father and previously to my grandfather Shick who was born in 1892. One of the photos is of a school class. There is a slate in one of the children's hands. It is difficult to read, even after scanning and adjusting in Photoshop, but I can make out "Williams School." I think the year is 1901. The teacher's name looks like Rella Grappy. The 1989 "A History of the Hardin County Schools" gives the first teacher as Susie Brake in 1906-1907 so that wasn't of any help. Williams School in McDonald Township was on land which belonged to my Williams ancestors and then my Shicks - corner of Co. Rd. 75 and Twp. Rd 154 which is about a mile north of Jumbo.

I would like to know if there is anyone on this board who would recognize their relatives from this part of McDonald Township when the relatives were school age children in 1901. If so, I can send a copy of the picture by e-mail.

VAN RIPER divorce 1912

James Van Riper married Clara Wilson Mar 9, 1901 in Hardin County and the 1910 census indicates they were residing in Kenton. A marriage record in 1913 in Malcalm Co., Michigan indicates James married Gladys Wilson in Kenton, Ohio. This record indicates James was previously unmarried. Descendants of Gladys indicate this is the same James who married the two sisters.

In March 1913 Clara remarries, this time in Knox Co., and indicates she is divorced. Both marriage records for Clara confirm this is the same person.

I have been unsuccessful in locating the divorce papers in either Hardin or Knox counties. Does anyone know if there is a particular county adjacent to either Hardin or Knox where it would be relatively easy to get a divorce in 1912. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Frances Cope

Nancy Ramer White was born 1856, died March 1882 and is buried in the Dunkirk Cemetery. Did she die in Hardin Co or just buried there? They are living in Allen Co in the 1880 census.

Also looking for birth records of her children Carey Bliss White, Laurel Idessa White, and Ethel White. Any trace of them in Hardin Co?

I am looking for information on the children of my 2 great-grandfather David Horton CLARK (b Sept.30 1834-Sept. 10, 1907). I have a photograph and letter written by John P. Sierer of Emphoria, KS Dec. 1906 addressed to the D.H. CLARK family and signed: Your bro, J.P. and E. C. Sierer.
The photograph identifies Mr. Siere's wife as Eleanor C.
It could also be spelled Elinor. I believe she was the daughter of David Horton CLARK but have not been able to verify it. The CLARKS resided in Hardin County.I am searching for an accurate list of their children. His wife was Rebecca Ann VAUGHN(1847-1918), but she used the name Ann.

Susan May Blunck
Searching for parents and relatives of SAMUEL LEWIS DOB ca 1800 PA
1. Samuel Lewis and his family are listed in the 1850 census for Twp 9N IE, Knox, Illinois; Roll: m432_113; Page; 324. Samuel gave his birthplace as Pennsylvania and age as 50. Nancy, his wife, gave her age as 35 and her place of birth as Ohio.

2. The family had 10 members: Samuel, Nancy and eight children. The eldest three children were stated to have been born in Ohio. Cynthia, aged 16, Samuel, aged 15 and Martha, aged 12 were said to have been born in Ohio while Joseph, aged 9, was said to have been born in Illinois.

3. The elder Samuel Lewis does not appear in the 1860 census, but his wife Nancy and their youngest child, Samantha, do appear on the1860 census for Orange Twp, Knox, Illinois; Roll: m653_195; Page: 682; Image: 348. I suspect that the elder Samuel died after the 1850 census, but I have no evidence to sustain that belief.

4. Cynthia Lewis married John A. Buffington on 23 Oct 1853 Knoxville in Knox County, Illinois. They had a family of ten children all of whom were born in Knox County, Illinois.

5. I am interested in the relatives of Samuel Lewis, ca DOB 1800, to determine any connection between Lewis and Hannah Buffington, ca DOB 1785 VA or PA, and to trace the background of Cynthia Lewis Buffington.

Hello,I am wondering if anyone has information on an Andrew Marks who was married to a Nancy Welch(Walsh), or any of their children. They would have had at least two sons:
Henry Marion Marks B: Abt: 1890 May 5 Ohio
Daniel Marks B: Abt:1884 Dec. 12 Ohio

Both Sons lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the 1920-1930's and had married and divorced Daisy Belle Burdick (Perkins) (Morrison)
The information I have on them came from their marriage certificates with Daisy Belle Burdick (my great-grandmother) I had found some information on Latterday Saints website for the 1880 census a Andrew and Nancy Marks were listed, in Paris, Union, Ohio. That is what has led me to your mail list. Also on the birth certificate of Daniel's twin boys his birth place is listed as Hardin Co. If you have any information, or know of any good websites that might beuseful I'd be happy if you would pass on the information.
Thank you
Lea in Minnesota

I'm looking for any information about my GGrandfather Enos, who moved from Pickaway Co, to the Kenton area and possibly Lynn Twp., after 1886. First wife was Nancy Jane. They had 6 kids - Emma (or Annie?), Mary Altha, James C., Arthur Jesse, Zetta, and Grover C. Grover is my G-father. 1900 census lists Enos as being remarried to a "Mahala French" and one child of hers is living with them. So is Enos' Mother Sarah Ann Burget in her 70s. I need information on Emma/Annie. Who did she marry? Where is 1st wife Nancy Jane buried? Enos and mother Sarah Ann dissappear after 1900. Where and when did they move, die, and where are they buried? I'd love to "recover" their where-abouts for the family histories. Thanks for any help.

The Gospel Herald

To any Good Samaritan,

I just recently received an obituary of Ephraim Ream (my 2nd great-grandfather) who died in 1917 in Ada. The obituary, which appeared in The Gospel Herald, came via a connection to Hardin Co., Oh. genealogy webpage. I am unfamiliar with the Gospel Herald--is it associated with an Ada church? I would also like to see if Ephraim's wife's obituary appeared in that same publication. Amanda Clark Ream died in Ada on 21 Apr. 1924.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated!

Sincerely,
William (Bill) H. Ream, Jr.
