Dear Patti,

I am a ggrandaughter of Mary Philinda Stoughton and William E. Davis and am researching the Davis family. William E. was quite well known in Cincinnati and a fair amount has been written about him. He was born July 26, 1831 in Hamilton Co. (maybe Taylor Creek where his father John Allen Davis was postmaster); he died in Westwood (Cincinnati). All I have about Mary Philinda is that she was born feb. 19,1835 in Hamilton Co, OH and she died in 1880 in Cincinnati. She is buried in Spring Grove cemetery along with her husband and children. I know nothing about the Stoughton branch but I know a few things about the Davis branch. Maybe we can help each other.

I do not have a record of a George F. Davis.

The Davis I have is Wm. Edmond (b.1831 son of John Allen & Rachel Scull Davis) who married Mary Philinda Stoughton, (b. 1835 dau of Cornelius & Mary Stoughton) in 1855 Cincinnati. They had John Allen Davis, William Edmund Davis, Jr., Bnjamin E. Davis, Rutherford H. Davis, Louise Davis who m. Harry Thurston Crane.

Perhaps George F. Davis descends from one of them? I have not done much work on the descendants in the Davis line. So... maybe someone else will know. Have you any info on Stoughtons?

Thanks for writing.

Patti,

I was thinking that maybe he maybe related through one of George F. Davis's siblings. I have the Davis history back to 1593-1600 where our descendants settled in Massachusetts.

I am trying to fill in the other branches. Good luck in your search.
