yes, it's been a struggle, especially with the name apparently badly miss-spelled in America. the best I've come up with is Tonhoefer or something near that.
the confusion with the surname is when it changed from Dunhieffer to Duniver. Duniver's a very common Irish name. but Jacob isn't an Irish name. well, I'll need to investigate that avenue, though I'm not looking forward to another commone name in his tree. he's got so many of them.
yes, that is Edward in IL. he eludes me in 1870, I have all of his census except that one.
