I am attempting to track John C. Weatherwax born 1888 PA. In USC1900 he appears as a student at the Orphans home in Xenia OH. He is listed on line 14 living in cottage #21.
John would later become a Hardware salesman and move to Los Angeles CA. There in 1910 he married a Mabel R. Wilson. They had 1 son John C. Weatherwax jr b: 23 Jul 1911.This family lived in the Long Beach area. The famly also appears in USC1920 in Long Beach, they only had the one child John died sometime before 1930 when his widowed wife and son appear in USC1930 in Long Beach. Since he was born in 1888 in PA and there is no 1890 census available, I was wondering if anyone knows if the records of the Orphan home are available for review to determine John C. parents. Searches online in Pennsylvania have not turned up any clues

I am assembling a MILLER database exclusively for Greene Co. Millers. I have a lot of basic data, such as land transfer indexes, probate indexes cemetery records, marriage indexes and am putting together all the Greene Co. OH Miller IGI information. Most of this information is in spreadsheet form so that it can be arranged in any sort order desired. I have been trying to assemble all the Greene Co. Millers into their various families so as to help me figure out which ones belong to me. It has occurred to me that if I could get all the Miller researchers to submit their information to me, I could assemble it and make it available to each of you. Would you be interested in participating in this project? If so, please tell me what information you have available and email me a GedCom (2.3) with all of your Greene Co. Miller information, and their ancestors, please. Dave Miller

Okay I am 23 years old and have been searching for my father since I was 16 years old. I was born in Xenia, OH to Loa Sims and William Kenneth Harrison. I have not seen my father nor heard from him since I was 2 years old. My mother was adopted so I know nothing of my family history. I would love to meet my father and show him what his first born has grown up to be. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

My Great Grandmother, Isabella Glass, was born in Congo, Perry County, Ohio in 1853. My family lore says that her family went west in a covered wagon and was never heard from again. Isabella (or Isabelle) stayed behind and married George Washington Allen of Crooksville area, Perry County, Ohio.
My undocumented records list her siblings as Anna Glass, George Glass, Nancy Glass and Morgan Glass. The 1880 census shows a large number of Glass in Silver Creek, Greene County, Ohio including a Morgan Glass. Could this be Isabella Glass' lost family? Any help will be appreciated. I am at a dead-end at Isabella Glass.
Ken English

Looking for family of Benjamin Hardacre born about 1822 in OH, married Elizabeth of OH, she might have been married before as there was a Nancy Elizabeth, then J. about 1845, William Benjamin 1847, Samuel about 1851, Joshua abt 1854, Rebecca about 1859, Benjamin Marshall about 1860.I have the 1850,60,70 census with the family and in 1880 there is just Elizabeth and Joshua and Marshall B., so Benjamin must have died before 1880. Wish to correspond with anyone liking to this family. Someone thought that Benjamin was the son of another Benjamin who married Nancy McFaddin.

I am searching for the families of 2 soldiers that were POW/KIA in the Korean War. When they entered service they gave Greene County, Ohio as thier home of record

Soldier: ROBERT FARTHING
Born: Feb. 23, 1928. Caucasian
Date of loss; Feb. 6, 1951. KIA

Soldier: WILLIAM JAMES SHARP
Born: August 1, 1931. Caucasian
Date of loss: July 24, 1950. KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. These are 51 families from Ohio that are missing and two from Greene County.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hello,
I am working on a project for my Master's Degree documenting old schools in Ohio. My website is www.oldohioschools.com

This site is for the schools built after the one-room era. I am looking for pictures and information on any schools from the late 1800s through the mid 1900s.

The categories are :

Gone- Schools which have been razed

Abandoned- Schools which are closed and not used for any other purpose

Endangered- Schools which are closing soon or have recently closed and likely to become abandoned or razed

Retired- Schools which are not used as public classroom buildings but serve in some other capacity (apartments, offices, etc)

Functional- Schools still in use as classroom buildings

*** I understand that the Jamestown Highi School on SR 72, built in 1937 has closed or is slated to be closed soon. I need a PICTURE of that building if anyone has one.

I would appreciate any updates to the information I already have posted, such as dates and locations, as well as any pictures or new information ton post. Please contact me at aaronturner@Neo.rr.com if you can help!

Davis Family line - Delaware, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska

I am researching my great, great Grandfather Moses Davis, and his
Father Joseph/John Davis.

I know that Moses was born on 24 June, 1831 in Greene County, Ohio.
His Civil War pension lists his Father as a Joseph Davis, Mother
unknown, but I have since found her name on the census as Mary. He
married Manerva Jane Dennis in March of 1852 (Brown County,
Illinois) - she died 9 months later. He then married Philena McGee
(Agency City, Wapello, Iowa) in 1853. They had 5 children Mary J.,
Sarah L., William Robert, Charles Wesley (my line), and Clementine. I
do know of at least four Brothers named John, James, Philip,
Josiah/Joseph Davis - and one Sister Elizabeth (she married Samuel
McNeal), and have heard rumour of possibly 2 other sisters. I have
been unable to locate any specific information
on Joseph/John Davis or his spouse. According to the 1880 census, both
Moses and Philip list their parents as being born in Delaware. But I
have also come across Pennsylvania and Kentucky.

I have found this family in the 1850 census in Brown and Schuyler
County Illinois.

Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Laneya Davis-Rino
1804 Presbyterian migration from Scott/Fayette Co KY

My ANDERSON ancestors were among ca 40 Presbyterian families who arrived in Xenia area Greene Co OH 1804 from Lexington/Louisville Ky areas led by Col James Morrow and Rev James Armstrong and Rev. Andrew Fulton. Many were members Sugar Creek and Massies Creek congregations.
Some of these families had arrived Ky 1780s from Franklin Co and other parts western PA. My Anderson line started with William Anderson who married Catherine McElhatton 1773 Mercersburg Franklin Co PA.
In search for pioneer ancestors this Anderson line interested discussing/sharing with anyone who might have had ancestors who particiated in this 1804 migration Presbyterian families from KY to Greene Co OH. This William Anderson settled section 31 near the Little Miami River, apparently a neighbor of one of the pioneer Galloways who had arrived Xenia in 1790s. Oldest son William Jr b 1775 and wife Jane Kyle remained Xenia, other children moved on to IN. Thanks. Bill
