WATERLOO - Maurice Wendell Culpepper Sr., 78, of Waterloo, Iowa died Sunday, Jan. 11.
He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Xenia, Ohio, son of the Rev. Mitchell Culpepper and Carolyn Burroughs. He married Thelma Gary in Mississippi in 1960. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Culpepper attended Elston High School, Michigan City, Indiana and Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, Ohio.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and had owned and operated Peps Barber Shop for more than 40 years.
Survived by: 10 sons, James Reginald Culpepper of California, Brian Mills and Maurice Mills, both of Seattle, Maurice Wendell (Robin) Culpepper Jr. and Galan E. (Shauna) Culpepper, both of Waterloo, Tracy V. (Eileen) Culpepper of Charlotte, N.C., Patrick D. (Barbara) Culpepper of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jason M. Johnson and Mitchell D. (Monica) Culpepper, both of Dallas, and Kevin E. (Nancy) Culpepper of Des Moines; numerous grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, the Rev. Harold E. Culpepper of Waterloo and Earl B. of Baltimore; and a sister, Thelma Imogene Culpepper-Allen of Michigan City.
Preceded in death by: a brother, the Rev. Paul B. Culpepper; a sister-in-law, Margaret Culpepper; and two sisters, Hazel Lindsay Culpepper and the Rev. Clara McGee.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Baptist Church. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
