Dr. Harry G. Johns, 96 of Xenia, Ohio, departed this life on March 19, 2018. He was born December 7, 1921, to the late Ewing and Iona Johns in Alliance, Ohio.
A 1940 graduate of Alliance High School, in 1969 he was the recipient of the Alliance High School distinguished alumnus award.
He earned a B.S. degree in Commerce from Wilberforce University and an M.S. degree in business from The Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Harry also attended the University of Omaha, West Virginia State University, and Shrivenham American University in England, and the Dayton Art Institute.
A World War II soldier and hero in the 999th Field Artillery Battalion, Corporal H. G. Johns' War decorations include the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal with Four Bronze Stars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of thirteen years, Garnetta F. Johns, three brothers, Haywood B. Johns, Colonel James J. Johns (Tuskegee Airman), Roland H.(Loertta) Johns, three sisters, Lena M. (Everette) O'Neal, Jessie Woods, and Anna (Bill) Williams.
He and his beloved and extraordinarily devoted wife of fifty-three years, Bessie (Cason) Johns, had four sons, Colonel Kevin E. Johns (USMC, Retired), Richard J. Johns, Harry G. (Carla) Johns II, David M. Johns, and a grandson, Anthony G. Johns.
Dr. and Mrs. Johns have four nephews, James J. Johns II, John G. Johns, Victor Johns, Harry Woods, two nieces, Janet J. Johns Sawyer, Contessa Johns, one sister-in-law, Loretta Johns, two close family friends, Mary Cotton and Violet Ponders, who were like daughters.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Drive, Xenia, Ohio 45385.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the Church. Interment to follow in Massie Creek Cemetery, Cedarville.
