Mosby Childers b.ca1760 VA & grandchildren

13 Dec 2009 from Warren Forsythe

The late Jack Childers posted the best Mosby Childers (ca1760-1843) descendancy and documentary sources that I've ever found on the internet. Since he no longer can respond to queries about his fine descendancy, posted at

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...

I consolidated, from all readily available internet sources, all the known grandchildren (and spouses of granddaughters) for that family of Elizabeth (Jeffries) and Mosby Childers who married 1785 VA.

I made one discovery about the family as a whole:
By 1802 they had already made the 200 mile move westward from Greenbrier Co. to Kanawha Co VA/WV, presumably by 1802 into that portion of Kanawha Co. which 1804 became Mason Co. VA/WV, where they were located in 1810, and directly across the Ohio River from where they were located by 1812 in Gallia Co. OH

Sources for that descendancy data, as posted on above internet site:

ID: I5157
Name: Mosby Moseby Rev_War_:_5th_VA CHILDERS
Sex: M
Birth: ABT 1760 in reportedly,Albemarle,VA,age 19 in 1780
Death: 3 AUG 1843 in ,Hancock,Indiana
Burial: Brown Twp,Hancock,Indiana,Hayes Cem
Reference Number: 27DS-X8C
Note: -
Note: -
Note:
!-
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...
Mosby Childers b.~1760 by the late Jack Childers posted 2001 & seen dec 2009;
and also by late Jack Childers:
http://original.childers-childress.com/mosbychilderssr.html
Note:
!-
LDS Salt Lake FHLibrary microfilm 1421991 item # 2 family of Mosby Childers pub
about 1980 by Mrs. Garnie Rooker ca.1980 of 449 S Huron AVE, Columbus OH 43204
about 1980 Issue No. 5 page 6 = Consecutive over-all page # 38 of
Childress Chatter 1980s periodical newletter on Childress & Childers and
similar surname families.
Cemetery Book and Church records Help

I need the source (copyright, etc.) information from the book that includes Mt. Olive Cemetery in Springfield twp. and Providence Cemetery also in Springfield twp. Evidently we have a missing stone from Mt. Olive for H.H. Hull and at one point must have been there-according the the cemetery book. I was also wondering if there are any other sources around besides the cemetery books. I understand the Church is gone from Mt. Olive and wondered if there were any church records around. Providence was a Baptist Church I believe and wondered the same for it.

The people I am looking for is H. H. Hull at Mt. Olive and George Hull at Providence. George's wife-Elma is there at Provident and it says on his death cert. that he was buried there too.

Thank you for any help.
Deborah Hull

Looking for James researchers in Gallia Ohio. My James line starts with William James, wife Amelia, and children. Williams mother was Jane James. The family came from Wales in 1840 and settled in Pittsburgh PA originally and then moved to Raccoon Township, Gallia County. Would like to find related James'. We think William had a sister named Elizabeth who married a David Davis, also in Gallia Co.. There also appears to be a John James that was a brother who was in the "iron business" in Zanesville Ohio.

Would like to share infor with anyone who may be related!

Glenn Roberts,
gcrmerc@st-tel.net

Christina,

I would be interested in the information on the two Thompson's you found in "The History of Gallia County". I have 3 generations of Thompson's that lived there. My grt-grt-grandparents, Samuel & Rebecca (Dennis) Thompson are buried in the old Mercerville Cemetery. Their son, Samuel and his wife, Anna Laura (Roe) Thompson, lived there for several years. And, my grandfather, Ady Clarence Thompson was born in Gallia County, OH. I've hit a brickwall in trying to find my grt-grt-grandfather's, father. So, I'm hoping that perhaps the E.P. Thompson listed in your book might be of some help. Also, we have several George Thompson's in the family.

Any help would be most appreciated.
Carolyn

I am looking for information on the Adam Kern and Susan/Susannah Perkins Kern family in Gallia County, Ohio. They were married in 1839 and had two children--Mary and Price. After the 1850 Census, they disappear. I found Adam's mother, Susannah, died in 1874, but no leads on this family. Don't know if he died in Civil War, or she died or either re-married. Any leads would be most appreciated.

I believe that George W. must have married again, because my great-grandmother was Ida Fain but apparently George shows up on a census with wife "Fannie T." and a young daughter named Beatrice. My mother (George and Ida's granddaughter) remembered clearly visiting "Grandma Fain" as a young girl (however they didn't visit often) -- but I'm not sure if that could have even been Ida's mother. George and Ida's son, my grandfather William, died in 1933 when my mother was only 3 years old, and I don't think they saw the Canterbury side of the family very often after that.
I had some piece of information a long time ago that suggested George W. Canterbury's line had come to Ohio from the Greenup area of Kentucky. I can no longer find that piece of information and cannot seem to make a connection at this point. There are so many Canterbury lines that I am befuddled about this.
I'd be glad to share what information I have, and look forward to corresponding with anyone and everyone looking into this line!

William James Family of Wales

Looking for James researchers who could share any information on William and Amelia James family. William was born around 1810 in Wales, he and Amelia were married 1835 in Pittsburgh PA. They moved to Ohio settling in Raccoon Township, Gallia County Ohio somewhere around 1850. My wife's grandmother has the original family bible listing William, Amelia and all of thier children. The bible is dated 1832 and has the name Morris James written inside the cover, Morris and Jane James are William's parents, but we have very little information on them, other than we think Jane is buried in Gallia County.

I am searching for any descendents of these folks, one paper states that William might have had a brother named John, and I have found some information from family trees that also leads me to believe William might have had a sister named Elizabeth James b. 1820 in Wales and married a David Davis 1844 in Pittsburgh PA, but cannot tie any of this together. William left Ohio around 1870 and settled in Richardson county Nebraska where he and Amelia are buried. If you are a James researcher I would love to hear from you as I have many unidentified James family photographs.

Thanks,

Glenn Roberts

Donna, I believe we are on the same trail. I copied a great deal of info on the James Fitz(Roy or Fitzhugh) trying to find the correct one. History says some of them got out of England when they were chopping off heads. I have been trying to get proof of this or something. Andrew and wife didn't just drop from the sky.

I cannot pin point his exact date but i have been able to narrow it from between 1865- 12 Oct 1867. When his father's estate was being probated by the Exectuor Matthew Lasley, there is a court case dated 12 Oct 1867 where Matthew Lasley is suing the heirs of Eli Shuler, deceased, to settle the estate. Then on 8 March 1868, Margaret Shuler gives a quit claim to Lasley for her interest in Geroge Shuler's estate.
hope this helps,
Sandi Maskew
smaskew@wildblue.net

Family of George W. Canterbury

I'm searching for information on George Washington Canterbury, my great-grandfather. His marriage record from 1898 (m. Ida Fain) states that he is 26 years old and from Gallia County, OH. He died in Brounland, Kanawha County, WV in 1954 and his death certificate lists his parents as George Canterbury and Adalene Seeley. His occupation was listed as 'clergyman.'
I know there are many, many Canterbury lines, and if anyone has any information on this particular Canterbury family I would love to correspond with you.
Thanks.
Elly Barczak
Bear, Delaware

I am very late in replying to this thread, I didn't know anyone had replied.
I have a photo of Anton Blattner in uniform and that is about it. You know more about him than I did, but my grandmother did remarry after him, but never changed her name from Blattner.

I hope this message reaches you!
