Hello;
My name is Debbie (Noland) Nitsche. My great-grandfather was Delton Coughenhour.
He was born on July 8, 1883 in Gallia Co., Ohio. He died in Marietta, Ohio on April 26, 1958.
I have a copy of his marriage record to Malissa Noland. They were married in Athens County, Ohio on April 13, 1909. Delton's parents are listed as Henry Coughenour and Margaret Shoemaker. His residence is listed as Marietta, Ohio. I found a Henry Coughenour and Margaret Shoemaker were married on March 14, 1874 in Gallia Co., Ohio. I checked the 1880 census and found this:

1880 Cheshire Twp., District 20, Gallia Co., Ohio
Henry COUGHENOUR Self M Male W 26 OH OH VA
Margret COUGHENOUR Wife M Female W 22 OH Keeping House OH OH
Edward COUGHENOUR Son S Male W 3 OH OH OH
Perley COUGHENOUR Son S Male W 2 OH OH OH

I am almost sure this is the SAME Henry and Margaret, but of course in 1880 Delton was not born yet. I have tried to find them in the 1900 Gallia, Co., Ohio census with no luck. Delton would of been about 16 or 17 years old in
1900. He married Malissa in 1909, and on the marriage record he is listed as being 24 yrs. old. I am wondering if he could still be living with his parents then, and the family was in Gallia Co., Washington County, or in Athen's Co. in 1900?

As for Malissa's family. She is the dau. of Ruben Noland and Harriett Henthorn. On the marriage record it states that her residence was Stewart, Ohio. That is in Athens Co., but was born in Washington Co.

I have Delton, Malissa, and children in Marietta, OHio in 1920 and 30.

If you have ANYTHING on Henry Coughenour and Margaret SHOEMAKER, please email me. I am at a brick wall with finding them in the 1900 census.

Thanks;
Debbie (Noland) Nitsche
