Hello,
I am looking for information on the Richard F Marshall family. John Benjamin, son born about 1833, and Richard F Jr born about 1836, were both born in Fayette Co. Also, a daughter, Jerusha, married a Seth Lingo in Fayette Co in 1857. Does anyone know anything about these people? Thank you!

I have just finished my overhaul of the Fayette County Schools page on my website.

http://www.oldohioschools.com/fayette_county.htm

I am still missing quite a few pictures of some of the old schools as well as some dates and locations. Please check out the new page and let me know what you think or if you can help with any other information. It now loads much faster and is more user-friendly for people wanting to only view a certain county.
She was married to James H Whelpley and left behind a 11 yr old daughter: Marion Elizabeth Whelpley (Wilson/Gage).
I can't figure out where Halla came from. If I have her Death Cert Number and know about when she was married, is there a way to find out where she was born and who her parents were?

LQQking for any info on Ridgaway Richard Knott or Mitchell Knott

Ridgaway was a native of Fayette County, born August 28, 1839 at Washington Courthouse, OH. May have went by the name Richard or Ridgie. He spent most of his early years in Fayette County and his parents names were Mitchell and Amanda (Stewart) Knott. Amanda Stewart's father could have been William Stewart.

After traveling out west he returned to Fayette County and married a Syphord, Sypherd, Siford or Syford lady, I have different first names for her Lydie, Avbilla, or Eliza August 15, 1850 or 1851. She was born Jun 20, 1838. Her parents were John and Edith "Eda" (Eige) Siford.

He had at least 1 brother John Noah Knott, who was also born in Fayette County. Could have been in Washington Courthouse, Ohio in 1861

I would love to find his birth certificate etc. any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Also on Mitchell we have very little info he was the son of Gustavus Knott and Elizabeth Cloyd. He born in PA around 1829. They moved to Fayette County, the family appears in the 1850 census in Fayette County, OH. Gus was born in Maryland in 1787. Any info on him would be great too!
Photos of Fayette County people, circa 1900 or so...

My father passed away less than two years ago and I inherited a box of family photographs. Many of them had the name of the person on them and I feel very strongly that they belong with actual descendants, rather than sitting in a box here in my house, where I am someone that only knows they are a relative, but not my direct line.

I would like to have these photos find their families. I will happily mail the photos to direct descendants only, for just the cost of postage... If any of these names are yours, contact me via e-mail and let me know the link to them... These are not for collectors, as much as they would probably like to have them. If I suspect for one second that you are a collector, you will not be receiving a photo from me...

Many of these photos are of either very young children or those that seem to be High School Graduation photos. There are less than a handful that are either marriage photos or soldiers in uniform, possibly WWI, or one is a marriage photo, but the groom is in uniform.

Here is the list... If a name is on there more than once, I have more than one photo of them...

Bernice French Allen
Clarence Blue
Ruth Claar
Alvin Claar
Herbert Claar
Mildred Lucille Claar
Miriam Cory
Ralph Dennis
Grace Egan
Roy Egan
Grace Egan
Grace Egan
Felix Faust
Ed Fenwick
Jerry B Ferneau
Hubert B Ferneau
Bessie Ferneau
E.
Looking for information on my g,g,g,grandfather Jonathon Porter Rogers. Born Fayette County 7 September 1837. He went to live with his grandparents whn his mother died when he was 3 years old. I think his grandparents were William and Nancy Balis or Dalis. His father was still around and kept the older kids. Then his father and uncles and brothers and sisters moved to Noble County, IN. They eventually grew deep roots in Marshal/Kosciusko/Fulton (Tri-County area in IN. I don't have his father's name.

Last week, I went to PA to visit my mom and while we were there, we went to Gettysburg Battlefield to see the cemetery, etc. While there, I took photos of the soldiers from the 73rd OVI, which was mustered out of Chillicothe. I would have taken more of the other units, but my digital camera batteries died.

Here is a list of the ones I did get. If your soldier is listed in there, let me know and I can forward to you the photo via e-mail. Remember as you look at the list that misspellings are in there. The J. J. Sparry at the bottom is my relative, Isaac J. Sperry. I recognize some of these names from Fayette County, OH too, so I will be cross posting.

Jasper C. George appears without her in the 1870 Marion twp census. Nothing after that. In 1840 and 1850 they were in Ross County.

I presumed they died there but I could not find them in the death index or the cemetery indexes.

They indicated on the census that they were born in Virginia. I am also looking for information on the names of their parents.

George A. Robinson, Jr.'s stenographer's pads

When the late George A. Robinson, Jr. was alive, he abstracted many government records, scrapbooks, etc. In the early 1970s I read one of his stenographer's pads in which he had abstracted obituaries from an old scrapbook. The obituaries were from the early 1900s and contained one on my great grandfather who died in 1908. The paper in which the obit appeared is no longer extant. Does anyone know if these steno pads were up for auction after his death and, if so, who may have purchased them? Thanks.

1820 census: Henry Snider age 45+ and Family; John Snider age 16-25.

1830 census: Henry Snider age 50-60 and family, John Snider age 20-30 and family. Peter Snider age 20-30 and family.

Think Henry was married to Elizabeth Hesser / Hessar. They may be parents of John and Peter. John, born in Ross county in 1801, married Delilah (Beard?) and moved to Indiana btw 1830-1840. Henry was on Ross tax rolls 1806-1816. Henry died abt. 4/6/1832. Elizabeth moved back to Ross county and died 7/3/1771. I think Henry was a judge in Fayette county. (John is my gr-gr-great-grandfather) Would love to know more about this family, including if Delilah's last name was Beard, where Henry and Elizabeth are burried, anything!

The name could be spelled Arahood or Orahood. Thanks for any help.

J. Johnson b 1851
Laura Johnson b 1864

============
A sketch, titled JOHNSON FAMILY states it like this:

" William Johnson, one of two sons of Silas P. Johnson and Elizabeth (Kuntz) Johnson, was born March 19, 1838, in Columbia County, New York. When quite young, he was brought by his parents to the state of Ohio. This journey that would take only a short time under modern conditions, was at that time a very slow and tiresome experience. They went from their home to Buffalo, New York, by canal, and from there to Cleveland by steamer where they took the Ohio Canal to Chillicothe, and from there to near Hillsboro, Ohio, by wagon. Most of his life and that of his brother, Philip Henry, was spent in Fayette County. "
- - - - - -
The 1850 census states that all children were born in New York so this journey to Ohio took place between 1847 and 1850. So they were not among the earliest settlers of Fayette County. Their daughter, Emeline Johnson would marry one of the early settlers. Abner Todhunter Jr.. age 15 with his parents and sibling did settle the area in 1805. It appears Silas moved from 1850 Union twp to 1860 Jasper twp and then to 1870 Perry twp. Perhaps like Perry township this township also had boarder lines changed and though they did not move their "address" changed. Or they could have indeed moved.

Walnut Creek :
This area in 1805 was part of Fairfield Twp, Highland Co., OH. In 1810, Jan 19th (took effect March 1, 1810) this area became Greene Twp, Fayette Co, OH. Later, June 4th, 1845 this area became Perry Twp, Fayette Co, OH.

Email me at LauraF46@aol.com
Still lived there in 1830 and neighbor was Lewis Shackleford. James was 50-60 years old with son the right age in 1830. Anyone have any info about my "brick wall"?

I am looking for the following graves in Fayette County, probably from the 1860 - 1880 time period. They are likely buried in either Sugar Grove Methodist Cemetery or Bloomingburg Methodist Cemetery. Hope someone can do a lookup for me!

George Washington (usually listed as Washington or G.W.) Clindinst/Clinedinst/Kleindinst (many variations) b. ca. 1802, and his wife, Sarah b. ca. 1807. They appear in the 1860 Census for Fayette Co, but the family is gone by 1880.

Jacob Creamer

Jacob Creamer, manufacturer of Mole Ditching Machines, Mechanicsburg; was born in Fayette Co., Ohio, in 1809, and is the son of Michael and Mary (Gray) Creamer, both of Virginia. Michael was a farmer by occupation, and emigrated to Fayette Co. in 1805, where the remainder of his life was passed. His death occurred at an advanced age, and that of his wife in 1865. He had 12 children, ten of whom grew up to maturity. Our subject was the seventh child, and was reared and schooled in his native county, where he resided till the fall of 1871, when he became a resident of this county. He located first for 2 years in Urbana, and then moved to his present place in Mechanics-burg. He followed the calling of his father, and has made farming his principal occupation. He served as County Surveyor of Fayette Co. for 19 years, and 9 years as Justice of the Peace; has given considerable attention to carpentering, and, for the last 20 years, has been engaged in operating a “Mole Ditching Machine,” of which he is the patentee. It is a contrivance by means of which a secret ditch is cut any depth up to four feet, making a cheap and durable drainage. It can be regularly graded as the machine passes along, and the capstan, by means of which it is propelled, is mounted on wheels, thereby economizing time. From 100 to 300 rods can be cut per day. We think it destined to become the mode of under-draining on account of its proficiency and cheapness, not costing more than one-fifth as much as ordinary ditching. Mr. C. finds his political creed in the Republican party, and religious in the M. P. Church. He takes an active interest in the temperance cause, and puts himself in sympathy with all temperance movements. He married Elizabeth Benson, of Fayette Co., in 1835, by whom he has had 6 children, all living.

(Sorry, I don’t have exact book title, is for Champaign County, Ohio), 1881, Goshen Township chapter, page 882. (Elizabeth Benson is my relative)

Hello,

On the death certificate of Alcinda Burris (died 3 March 1912 in Ross County) her place of burial is given as Washington [illegible] O[hio]. Would anyone have a list of burials or book of gravestone transcriptions that might list Alcinda BURRIS?

Thanks,
Marjean Workman
I have Samuel as the father of Milton (my gg grandfather). Samuel was married to Elizabeth. The 1850 Census shows Elizabeth to be 16 years younger than Samuel...he being born around 1798 and her born around 1814. I'm trying to find out more information on Samuel Depoy (i.e. his parents, etc). It is thought throughout the family that he came from France possibly. Could someone do a lookup for me? The last state they were in that I know of was Ohio. Milton eventually moved to Illinois, but I'm not sure if his parents followed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I need information about a Meriwether family who lived in
Washington C.H., Ohio. They descend from Reuben Meriwether
(Merriweather)(1803-1876) and Rachel McIntyre. Reuben was born in Maryland. I believe this lineage is correct.

1 Reuben Merriweather	1803 - 1876
.. +Melissa Adams
*2nd Wife of Reuben Merriweather:
.. +Rachel McIntyre	- Aft. 1846
............	2 Nicholas Merriweather	1836 - 1922
................ +Marietta Matthews
...........................	3 John Merriweather	1864 - 1932
............................... +Tilla McLean
............	2 William Merriweather	1838 - 1923
................ +Emma Unknown	- Bef. 1923
............	2 Mary Alice Merriweather	Aft. 1835 -
............	2 Samuel Merriweather	Aft. 1835 -

Can anyone add to this? I also have information on a Robert Meriwether who married Margaret Johnson. He is probably from this line also.

I have several death cerificates for the above people. Burial is listed as Washington C.H. Can anyone tell me which cemetery this might be?
Thanks,
Sharon Pike
The Meriwether Society
Spike00@kih.net
