Photos Found in Attic

I sent this out to the mailing list 2 years ago and decided to post it on the Message Board as some people don't get the mailing list. Plus, the webpage address has changed due to Geocities closing.

http://hawkmanohio.tripod.com/putnam.html

A cousin at my Michael Family reunion in Putnam County, Ohio found some photos in a box in their attic. They believe the photos to be of MICHAEL relation or intermarried families.

I scanned the photos and placed them online in hopes of finding people who may know who some of the pictures are, as most do not have any names on them.

There may be photos in this collection of some families that have moved out of the area but are still linked to NW Ohio. If you have any knowledge of who any of these may be, please feel free to email me at hawkman_ohio@yahoo.com.

Some surnames that appear on the photos are Michael, Ridenour, Prowant, Eggleston, Andrews, Zickefoose, Wilson, Gray, Campbell, Myers, Pendleton and Weiss.

Old Defiance Co. Schools--One Rooms, Catholic, Etc. UPDATE

Many people have asked why I have not included One-Room Schoolhouses, Catholic and private schools, higher education schools, and schools still in use on my website

http://www.oldohioschools.com/defiance%20county.htm

Now people are going to have the chance to sponsor a school they would like to see added.

This website was my final project for my master's in education degree in 2008. I had to limit the scope of this project to schools which are demolished, abandoned, or closed and reused in some way. I have also added "endangered" schools as ones that will fall into one of the first three categories after current building projects/levies are finished.

I am offering a school sponsorship for $5.00 per school listing for those who would like to see their cherished one room, Catholic, or still-in-use school added to this site.

As you can see from the site, the main information I need is:
School Name
Location (exact address if possible otherwise road or intersection is good)
City or Township
Year built (major additions are also noted here)
Year closed OR year Demolished
If closed, then current use is also needed (i.e. abandoned, private
residence, church, etc).

I can also put up to 4 pictures for each one.
1. The Main picture-- if currently standing I like this to be what it looks
like right now. If gone, then the best known picture of it.
2. I can link the BUILT year to another old view of the building.
3. I can link the DEMOLISHED or CLOSED year to the school actually being
razed or what it looked like at the time it closed.
4. I can link the *Gone* to an empty lot view of what the current site looks
like or link it to another website, for example if it is now a church I can
link the *Church* to the church's website.

I put over 5000 miles on my car each summer traveling around getting photos and I just recently had to upgrade to a larger server because I have so many schools state wide featured.

If you are intersted in sponsoring a school listing for your county, please contact me at aaronturner@neo.rr.com

I will also list your name, if you want, as a sponsor under the picture. Again $5.00 per school for a permanent spot on the site. Thank you for your interest and I will begin building a spot for your school as soon as I hear from you.

I am (still) searching for the Schliesser Cemetery in which Johann Joachim Spadholtz (Spatholt), my G-G-grandfather, was buried in 1872, according to the St. Peter, Florida, Church Records. In the 1870 and 1880 censuses, a Schliesser family lived close to the Johann and Johanna Spadholtz family which was outside Jewell on Flory Road. The Schliesser house was north, in Adams Twp. and the Spatholtz house just inside what became Richland. I do not have an 1880 plot map of the land holdings. Can some tell me how to get an 1880 map on the internet, scan one and send it to me, or at least tell me where the Schliesser property was so I can try to find the suspected burials there?

Fidelia's maiden name was BLAIR. She was the d/o Wright Blair and Jane PRINDLE, both born in NY.

After Jerome died, Fidelia lived with her sister Nancy in Edgerton, Williams, OH. In 1910 Nancy BLAIR was 69 and single and between 1910 and 1915, Nancy married John CHILCOTE. Nancy was b 30 Sep 1844 OH and d 15 Dec 1915 in Edgerton.

Nancy, "Phidelia" and their 6 siblings are with their parents in the 1860 St. Joseph, Williams, OH census. Among the 6 siblings are Wright and Dwight, both 2.

I believe Fidelia was first married to Isaac E. VANNIMAN, ca 1866, with whom she had 6 children through 1880, possibly more. Fidelia was 30+ years younger than Isaac. Two of their children were probably twins; Harry and Harriet both b ca 1871.

Fidelia was at least Isaac's second wife. He was first married to Hannah BEVINGTON with whom he had 8 known children.

I am not related.
I am looking for information on Henry Smith and his family of Sherwood and Defiance, Ohio. They had five children: Florence, Edward, Clara, Mildred and Charles. Charles died in 1917 at the age of 11. Mildred is my grandmother who is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Defiance.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a connection between Defiance County, Ohio and Calhoun County, Michigan. I have two lines from two different families that appear to lead from OH to MI. Or if there was some sort of draw to MI in the first half of 1900.

I don't have a contact number but I do have a copy of the cemetery transcription and I don't see any Strain's listed. The transcription was done in 1981. Have you tried Forest Home or Spindler Hinsch if they were in or around the Hicksville area?

I have two concerns. 1) my ancestors are buried in Schliesser Cemetery in Defiance of Henry County. Does anyone know where Schliesser Cemetery is? I suspect it is a family cemetery. My two ancestors were buried there in the 1870s. 2) Does anyone have access to the records of St. John's Lutheran Church in Defiance? And could you do a look-up for me? I live in Hawaii . . . My maternal ancestors were the Spadholtz family from near Jewell. I am going to Germany in July and am looking for all relatives, past and present. There was a Friedrich Spatholt or Spadholtz in Defiance (name spelled Sütholc in 1880; Svadholtz in 1900; Suodholtz in 1910, Gerdholz in 1920). His wife's name was Maggie or Margaret Schatz. They must have been members of St. John's Lutheran. Mahalo! Dolly Kikuchi

Thank you very much. They were my Great-grandmother and one of her sons. The information I need can be found only in the St. John Church records, I believe. The family I referred to in the previous message have to have been relatives but I never before knew they existed. Perhaps the Defiance Church Record would give some clue of birthdate, where born, etc. for Friedrich. The census does not hold the information I need. The many ways that the last name was spelled only complicate matters. But thank you very, very much.
