Thanks for your reply. I have subsequently received information regarding Amelia, her marriage to Mr. Bingham, an actor, and her death in NYC. She is listed in some early lists of famous people. Apparently, John Swilley, father of Amelia and Ellen, ran a small hotel in Hicksville where the actor Bingham visited and "discovered" Amelia,
Much info on the Swilley family is available at the Defiance library, and through the county records, especially burials in the cemetery in Hicksville, as well as marriage and birth records. Both library and Connie at the records Office are most accommodating. Amelia may be the Isabel listed in 1870. ( I have found that birth dates for women of that period were often inaccurate, as they later shaved off a few yrs. as they grew older, thus I consider the earliest records more accurate, for who is going to fudge about the age of a child?)
The spelling of Swilly/Swilley varies.
