GORBY, Raymond H. was born on a farm near Negley, Ohio (Columbiana County) to George Ira and Rosa (Ward) Gorby on December 18, 1917, the youngest of seven siblings.
He died March 16, 2012 at Hearth & Home, Harding Rd. after an extended illness.
During WWII, Ray served in Kunming, China in the office of Major General C.L. Chennault's 14th Air Force, also known as "The Flying Tigers".
In 1950, he and his wife moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Springfield, Ohio.
He headed the watch repair department at Hofman Green Jewelers and retired in 1982 following 30 years of service. Ray was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and he and his family were formerly members of Oakland Presbyterian Church.
He was an avid golfer, Western style square dancer and round dancer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eileen (Gandy) Gorby; two sons, Gary (Karen) of Springfield, Ohio and Keith (Carolyn) of Cincinnati, OH; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24th in Northminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ray's may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
