James & Ida had at least 7 children and after James passed away, Ida came to Michigan with son Raymond and family.

Clinton County doesn't have any census info on-line and I have been to the Clinton County site with no luck.

Any help out there?
I am looking for information on a Wayson family that was found in Marion Township, Clinton County, Ohio, with the central figure being Isabell or Isabella. This source lists her parents as “(unknown) Wayson” and “Sarah (unknown);” birth as 18 February 1835 in OH or PA ; and marriage on 10 February 1857 in Clinton County to Lemuel Jefferson Garrison. (sources: Ancestry.com, Dixon Smith Family History, ID I4524, and Arwine Family History, ID I023). Her brother Samuel, also found in Civil War records, married the widow of Peter Garrison, Elizabeth. Most likely the “unknown” parents are those found in the 1860 Census of Marion Township: John and Sarah Wayson (source:OH 1860 Federal Population Schedule, pp 533-34).
Any information would be appreciated.

I am trying to find a date of death & place of burial for Maria/Mary KNOCH. We don't have a birth record for Maria but information in our family Bible appears to give her date of birth as January or July 1823. We have been unable to determine the correct spelling of her maiden name, but it may not help if we did as her name is spelled differently on every document we find. Her marriage record shows "Goltatne", her son's death certificate lists her as "Goldney" and her daughter's death cert says "Goltaire" or "Galtaire." Maria married Harmon/Herman KNOCH in Ross Co, OH in 1840. They are together in the Ohio census records until after Harmon's death in 1866. Mary married William A Doyle in 1867 and is found with him in the 1870 census in Huntington Twp, Ross co. along with two of her daughters, Phoebe & Louisa. In 1880, Maria/Mary is living with her daughter Phoebe who has married John WEATHERSPOON. They are in Clinton co, Ohio, and Maria is listed as "Mary KNOCH", mother-in-law to John. I do not find her in the 1900 census of Ohio. If you have a connection to this family, or advice for me regarding this search, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Surnames connected with Harmon & Maria's children are: COX, FRESHOUR, HILLMAN, PURDUM, REASTER/REESTER/REISTER, ROBINSON, ROONEY, WETHERSPOON/WEATHERSPOON

Hello All,
I'm looking to find a death or cemetery record for Moses and Almira/Elmira Hallam. They & much of their HALLAM family migrated to Clinton County from Washington County, PA in the 1830's. Moses & Almira look to have moved in the late 1850's to Fayette County, OH but there's no death, probate, or cemetery record for them there. It looks like they passed away approx. 1861-1863. My guess is they may have been laid to rest in Clinton County where much of their family still was. If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Christie Hallam-Hoffarth

Regards Charles.

I am looking for info on James Austin White Smith who married Ida Gertrude Bond in 1883 in Clinton Co., OH. James was born in April 1862 and is found in the 1900 Union, Clinton Co., Ohio census, but in 1910 Washington, Clinton Co., Ohio census Ida is found as widow (she then shows up in MI with her children and is buried here). Several cousins have been to Ohio (concentrating on Wilmington area) and nothing can be found of James' death. It seems to be sometime around 1906 according to his descendants. I have tried everything I can think of. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have even checked the cemeteries where other relatives are buried with not even a possible. James' father was Hamilton Smith.

Would appreciate any help/guidance.

Information on Garner Family

My great grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth (GARNER) LOOMIS, was born at Farmers Station in Clinton County on Jan 28, 1863. She was the daughter of James M Garner and Martha (DEAL) Garner. She died Feb 5, 1943, in Ayers, Champaign County, Illinois. I would like to know if the Garner family is still in Clinton County. Family legend has it that Elizabeth was a cousin of John Nance Garner, Vice President of the United States under FDR. If this is true, I'd like to know what degree the cousinship is.

I am doing research on a church and cemetery which overlooked Cowan Creek. There was a school nearby and I have information that the area was know as the Cowans Creek community. Appearently the site of the church and cemetery was abanoned well before 1900 and possibly as early as mid 1800s. Is it possible this was the original site of the Cowan Creek Church & cemetery that is now located near the intersection of Steele Rd and Farmers Rd? This church is actually south of the East Fork of Todds Fork & not located on Cowan Creek. Does anyone have any information on the history of the Cowan Creek Cemetery such as when it was established and what are the dates of the first burials?

Not meaning to through stones, but there seems to be little info available about Ohio. I have been lucky that the WPA put most of my county to record and that info is available though Genforum. If I come to Clinton county, will I find in the courthouse info on marriages pre-1850? If that what is takes, I will do it ( in the Summer). I am looking for info on the Hollingsworths who came to Clinton about 1830. All reposnses will be appreciated.

John Holingsworth
San Antonio, TX

Hello. I am hoping someone can help me out here. Does anyone know if death records exist for Clinton for the period of 1880-1900 ? I have a woman called Nancy Himes (or Hymes or Hines) that died there during that period and am trying to confirm her maiden name. I suppose it's possible she died in nearby Fayette. As I'm not certain this is my family yet I am not a subscriber so would need an eMail directly (gdburnette@aol.com) and am most appreciative for any information on existence of the records and how I might best get a copy.

WillIAM BAKER SARAH BROWN HOMESTEAD CLINTON CO

On line Beers states this about William Baker b 1805WILLIAM BAKER, deceased, was born in Nicholas County, Ky., March 1, 1805. He was the third son and sixth child of Jacob and Barbara Baker. In 1820, his father died, and soon after he came to this county. In 1833, he purchased eighty acres of the homestead, which was then all woods. Few were the roads that were yet made, and very inferior were the improvements. Mr. Baker was an honest, industrious, hard-working man, and by these means he acquired good property, owning at the time of his death 370 acres of finely improved and cultivated land. In 1850, he erected on his farm a commodious frame residence. April 11, 1833, he was married to Miss Sarah Brown, daughter of Asa and Anna Brown. Mrs. Baker, a native of Washington Township, was born July 13, 1811. Of eleven children, nine are living, viz., Jefferson, born December 11, 1836; Barbara, born December 24, 1838, wife of John Deck; Anna, born December 22, 1840, wife of Amos W. Lieurance ; Nancy, born January 22, 1843, wife of William Clevenger, and died in August 1864 ; Elisha, born April 10, 1846 ; Sarah R., born October 27, 1847, wife of James P. Roberts ; William, born September 14, 1849; Maranda, born January 19, 1851, wife of Frank Fisher; Clarinda, born January 8, 1853, wife of J. W. Crouse ; Emily, born March 26, 1858, wife of Isaac Crouse ; and Rebecca, deceased. Mr. Baker departed this life June 16, 1872, after a life of earnest labor and successful industry.

Does anyone know if the William Baker Farm built in 1850 in Washington Twp is still standing?

Michael Garoutte, b. 1784 Gloucester Co., NJ and his wife Sarah (Peterson) Garoutte lived in Clark Twp., Clinton Co., Ohio for some time. He appears in the 1840 and 1850 US census here. He died 31 Mar 1853 and supposedly is buried at Lynchburg, Highland Co., OH. He was a farmer and was supposedly involved in civil affairs. It has been said that the first turnpike in Ohio was completed under his supervision as president.

I am trying to find out if a county history exists that might mention his name, and to verify the above details and learn anything further of this man.

His eldest daughter, Mary, was married to Warren Warner of Hamilton Co., OH.

Thanks,

The letters are written prior to her marriage to John Brainard Orton of Cleveland Ohio in 1900. They are beautifully written and capture the mood and time so well. It would be wonderful to find family who would like them.

In doing my genealogy research, I have come across a 1959 obituary notice of a relative.
The funeral home that did the services was Riedlinger-Lemen in Cincinnati, Ohio, as some of you probably know, this funeral home is no longer in business. Would anyone have any idea which funeral home took over their business, or how I could locate their records?
I am looking for a funeral service record for documentation to confirm the names of the parents of the individual for whom the obituary was written.
This lady lived in Cincinnati, Ohio at the time of her death, at one point, in the 1930's , I think, she and her family lived in New Richmond, Ohio. The following is her obituary as it appeared in the newspaper:
COLLINS, Della (nee;LAWSON), beloved wife of the late Albert Collins, dear mother of Mrs. Jesse Marie Baxter Monday, Oct. 5, 1959, residence, 104 W. Liberty-st: age 87 years. Funeral services, Thursday Oct 8 at the Riedlinger-Lemen Funeral Home, 19 Green-st, at 9:30 a.m. Friends may call Wednesday between 4 and 9 p.m.
Not knowing the printing custom of the time, I don't know if the daughter's name mentioned is Jesse Marie or if Jesse is her husband's and the Marie should be in parenthesis, as is the custom today.
I am interested in contact with relatives of this family, please contact: Sandbox501@yahoo.com

Francis SMITH and his wife Massa owned land in Clinton Co.. Ohio in the 1830s. Their daughter, Lydia, was married there in 1836, to Washington Harrison Thompson. Francis & Massa had many children, identified ones are Lydia, David, Francis(Frank) and probably George.

In 1839 the clan started migrating to Indiana; Blackford, Delaware, Howard and Grant counties. Francis and Massa are buried in Grant County in Thrailkill cemetery.

I descend from daughter Lydia and want to connect with others from this SMITH line. Joseph Tyler is identified as brother-in-law on marriage application. Email to: bobyoung01@yahoo.com or reply here. Thanks !
