Looking for early photos of Morrisville

My 3rd Great Grandfather ( George Bond) apparently owned a "Merchant" business of some kind, as a partner with a member of the Custis family, on the main corner of town in Morrisville, in 1859. The Bonds were still in business in Morrisville, a few doors down, in 1876.

Anyone with pictures of the " downtown" area this early??
Know where I could find pictures from this early??
Please let me know !!

Morrisville is still a small community. There was a community store on the corner of 350 and 134 when I was growing up. This past year 2004 the old store on the corner which was known as Hull's Market was torn down. The Morrisville church is still there and no longer has services there for many years. Have you try writing to the Clinton County Historical Society and see if they have any information on the community back at that time.

I have been to the Clinton County His. Soc. and as far as I could tell, there were no photos of Morrisville. (of course I could have missed something)

The reason I ask is because I have a great grandfather who apparently owned a general store at the same intersection you are speaking of. (in 1860)

I really wish I could find some photos of that one horse town.

If his sisters Sarah (1805) and Nancy (1808) were born in Maryland then it is possible that he was born there, too. Just trying to see if it was the same George Bond. My interest is Nancy Bond who married a Samuel Bennett of Virginia. To find them I have been collecting/ gathering information on all the Bonds of that area.

I'm sure George was born in MD... although I have found one conflicting piece of info, I'm pretty sure it's just a typo.

As a matter of fact, all of George's kids born before 1825 would have been born in MD too. (Presumably the Hagerstown area where the Bonds' owned much land)

A snippet from the history of Clinton Co. Ohio:

"REV. JOHN E. BOND, minister and farmer, P. O. Burtonville, Ohio, was born in the State of Maryland May 18,1824. He was a son of George and Margaret (Matlack) Bond, natives of Maryland, who were married in that State, and, in 1824, emigrated to Ohio with our subject's paternal grandfather Edward Bond. The latter was a native of Virginia, but lived in Maryland for some time previous to his emigration. He traded land in Maryland for 1,200 acres in the Johnson survey in Washington Township, where the family located, and where they remained until the death of the "old folks." The family were of English and Irish, or, more properly, Anglo-Saxon descent. "

I really dont have much on Nancy though....all I know is that she was born Jun 30 1808 and was married to Samuel Bennet...

The Bennet's appear to have been cabinet makers in Morrisville @ 1860 and had a shop right next door to the "Custis-Bond" general store on the corner.

If you have more info on her line I'd love to see it...

If you need more info on George (like his Will) or George's line going backward, I have that

BTW - are you familiar with the Bond - Custis relationship?
The Custis family (with whom the Bonds married and did business) is related to the Dandridge family ...as in Martha Dandridge...who later became Martha Washington...

yes, our Bonds are related by marriage to both Martha Washington and Robert E Lee. Fun Stuff !

Someone was kind enough to do a look-up in theMarriage Records of Clinton County, Ohio ( 1810 - 1900 ).
Nancy BOND, married Samuel BENNETT on February 26,1824, marriage was performed by William MILLIKAN,Justice of the Peace. Record can be found in Probate Book minus 2 on page 114.

Yes, I would be interested in the 1860 census findings.

Wonderful. This census has Samuel Simmons Bennett, I have some info shared by his family branch. Curiously he was not listed in the 1850 Census transcription.that I had found. The name Simmonds/Simmons is a reason your Samuel(1804) might be my Samuel(1803).
My Samuel had a brother Roland Bennett who moved to Kent County, MD by 1820 after completing his indenture to a wealthy family in Accomack,VA. Roland's wife was a Simmonds. Someone lists Edward L. Bond 1777 as being born in Fredericktown, MD. There is a Fredericktown in Kent County,MD. The problem is that there are also two other Maryland locations called Fredericktown.
My Samuel was also indentured to an Accomack gentleman to learn farming named William Beavans (Bevins) . The indenture included learning to read and write.

I found Samuel and Nancy in the 1880 Census of Jefferson, Clinton, Ohio. Laben Morris Bennett was living next door. Nancy would have died after 1880 not in 1871. There might be a transcription error.

Might just be another Nancy....from the Custis side (Nancy Custis/Bond) Several Bonds were married to several Custis'....

Edward's family was large to begin with...plus all of George and Walter's family in the area...makes for many repeated names....

Like "George" & "John" Bond for example...holy cow there's a bunch of them

The Silver Creek area was called a Virginia Reservation. I'm not an expert but it seems Virginia originally owned the area and used it to full fill obligations for military service in the American Revolution. My Samuel Bennett's share was 533 acres . On 8 Nov 1831 William' Bennett's original land award document was cancelled and the acreage was divided between his heirs. Samuel's award document was #7007. Seems that holders of these documents just selected a plot within the reservation. Some other court action related to this matter happened in 1835 but I don't have a copy of that action just someone's reference to its occurance..

The Curtis family that came to Clinton County seems to have originated in Accomack, Va. Maybe that family has a picture of their business. You said the Curtis and Bennetts were cabinet makers. Do you have any idea of their names?
There was another Bennett family in the area.
I know townships and counties changed their boarders. Could pictures be in a neighboring history center or library.
