I believe Jahiel Courter may be the father of my husband's great grandmother, Myrtle Courter Roberts. I am trying to find information on them. What do you have? I notice that in the 1860 and 1870 census in Porter, Rock, WI Jahiel has a daughter named Angeline. Don't know what happened to her. The other 3 daughters I have found records of their marriages. Would love to hear from you.

Carl..Please contact me at corvid1@msn.com

I can give you a referral that may help.

Your line seems Quaker and there are several descendants of the sons of Thomas Hutton of Ireland who have participated in the Hutton YDNA project. In the book by Edward L Hutton, THE HUTTONS OF SOUTHERN INDIANA 1700-2000, ther is a reference to a Levi Hutton born 1804 who is the son of John Hutton and Rebecca McGrew.

You might want to look at the www.huttondna.com site which has some genealogies. It would be good for you to participate in the YDNA project. That will prove your Quaker lineage.

Marilyn, Co Group Administrator of the Hutton YDNA surname project Family Tree DNA.

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

This is your problem -

Facts you should know about the early census records -
All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++
I am looking for any family members connected to this branch of the Peters family tree. I have some information tracing this lineage back to the early 1700's in Pennsylvania and Maryland, but I need some more concrete evidence before I can be 100% certain. Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

/*1st GENERATION*/ Samuel J PETERS (b 1820 OH) m. Nancy WEAVER (b 1826, VA). Three children Oliver K (1846), Melvin (1847), and Charles B (1848). The family resided in South Charleston, Clark County, Ohio.

/**2**/ Oliver K m. Susan WAY (b. 1848, OH) and had five children; Charles B, Mary H, Arthur W, Samuel, and Sarah A between 1869-1876. Oliver died in Feb. 1876. Sons Charles married Eva CURREY (b 1877, OH), Arthur W married Sarah Belle PARKER (b 1870 OH), and daughter Mary H married Owen L CORNWELL. I am not sure if Samuel or Sarah ever married? The family was raised South Charleston.

/***3***/ Arthur Way PETERS and Sarah Belle PARKER had six children between 1895-1915; Flora, Lillian, James Baxter, Charles, Wilfred A and Arthur W, all of South Charleston. William E moved to Washington state and married Barbara STURM (b 1935, Aberdeen, WA), Mary Louise married (?) NIBERT and resides in Ohio. I am unsure if Richard married and/or had children, but still resides in Ohio. Wilfred died in August of 1965.

/*****5*****/ William Edwin PETERS and Barbara Jean STURM married in 1953 in Aberdeen, Grays Harbor Co., WA.
** I am not related to this family.

There are three family trees at ancestry.com that show the following information:

Elizabeth Ann Edmiston
Birth: Abt 1814 TN
Death: 1880 - OH
Marriage: 12 Sep 1837 - Clark, Ohio, USA
Spouse: Benjamin Michaels (1811 VA – 1888 OH)

Children:
Seth Michaels 1839 –
George Michaels 1841 –
Clark Michaels 1846 – 1917
Joseph N. Michaels 1850 –
Margaret A. Michaels 1850 –
Sarah Charlotte Michaels 1855 – 1924
William Michaels 1867 –
David Michaels 1869 –

One tree gives the following information for Elizabeth's parents:

Father: William Edmiston - 1790 TN
Mother: Sarah

The other two trees give William Edmiston, b. 1832 TN and
Sarah E. Hale, b. 1834, but those birth years have to be incorrect. They can't be born AFTER Elizabeth.

This may give you something to start with.

I'm trying to find out what killed him, why he died in WV and who my 15 year old cousin was living with at the time of his death. There is no information on his death certificate that answers any of the questions.

Thank you.
Sharon
I’m not related to any member of this family.
