Former Byron Man Is Killed In Plane-Crash
BYRON -(Special)- A native of Byron, Earl R. Ashelford, 35, Springfield, Ohio, was killed Sunday when his plane crashed at the Springfield airport.
Ashelford was manager of the airport and host for a "fly-in breakfast," and was about to stage a stunt show for guests. The plane went into a spin shortly after take-off and crashed. Ashelford died instantly.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ashelford, live in Byron. Their son took flying lessons in Freeport shortly after his graduation from Byron high school. After further training, he was a government flight instructor in World War II. He became manager of the Springfield, Ohio airport three years ago.
Other survivors are his widow, Virginia; a daughter, Martha; four brother, including William, Sycamore, and Donald, Rockford, and a sister, Mrs. Helen Crull, Stillman Valley.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. in Byron United church.
Burial will be in Byron cemetery.
Friends may call in the Bakener funeral home, Byron, tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
