WATKINS, Dorothy Ann 74, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, July 31, 2014 in her residence.
She was born in Springfield on October 11, 1939, the daughter of the late Boston and Lucille (Bradley) Walton.
Dorothy retired from both International Harvester and Mercy Medical Center. She was a devoted member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.
At church, Dorothy sewed garments for the Vessels of Praise and assisted in the culinary ministry.
She enjoyed bowling at Shamrock Lanes and especially with her tournament team, the Fab Five for 10 years, loved shopping, was widely traveled, and enjoyed gardening.
Dorothy is survived by her five children, Bradley Watkins of Guang Dong, China, Lisa Dunn of Springfield, Paula (Lee) Shaw of Lantana, Texas, M. Darren Watkins of Columbus, Ohio and Mark Watkins, also of Columbus; three sisters, Norma Jean Johnson of Springfield, Hattie Arnold of Springfield and Edith Marie Ladipo of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Janel, Dorian, Drew, Landon, Jamarlynn, Trey, and Evelyn; a great granddaughter, Jazzaeya; many nieces and nephews; and many wonderful life-long friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Marshall Watkins in 2004; a sister, Mary Lou Newby; and brothers, James and Tyrone Walton.
Dorothy's home-going service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in St. John Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Ernest Brown officiating.
Visitation will be held beginning at 12:00 p.m. with the family present at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
