The 1880 Census shows Bridget STANTON as the Head of Household with 5 children living in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio. The children are named Mary, Maggie, William, Alice, and Sarah.

I am researching a STANTON family that lived in Ohio about this time and wondered whether anyone else has come upon this family. My information on the family would indicate that Bridget's mother was Anne STANTON or Nancy Whalen STANTON and that Bridget had married someone named MULROY. The 1880 Census shows Bridget as being divorced. Any help will be appreciated.

Jerry Zollars

Am looking for information concerning an Agnes Cayce found in the 1920 Butler County Census. She is listed as a student, age 14, along with several other girls and two women who appear to be the superintendents, matron, etc. This school was located on North "B" Street in Hamilton. I cannot make out the name of the school in the section under industry, business or establishment of work done column. All the girls have no job other than student. I would like to know what kind of school this was.

I am trying to establish if this Agnes Cayse is the aunt of my father, Robert L. Moore. Agnes supposedly went to Pittsburgh, PA, and became either a stripper or madame. I can't find her there except for one possibility under a possible married name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Christine

I have just finished my overhaul of the Butler County Schools page on my website.

http://www.oldohioschools.com/butler_county.htm

I am still missing quite a few pictures of some of the old schools as well as some dates and locations. Please check out the new page and let me know what you think or if you can help with any other information. It now loads much faster and is more user-friendly for people wanting to only view a certain county.
The main areas being Waco, Bybee, College Hill, Brassfield, Panola and surounding areas. I have found that alot of families from Bybee had went to Butler County, OH. I'm looking for photos, family info. etc...of the Bybee area. Only to name a few surnames I'm working on are: Adams, Robinson, Kaylor, Freeman, Ward, Cornelison, Cain, Webb, Conner, Singer, English, Snowden, Grinstead, Amerine, Bybee, Abrams, Moore, Thomas, Richardson. If your family is not from the above areas of Madison Co.,KY. I still might have info. to share. I've been working genealogies in that area for myself and friends for over 20 years now.

Estill Co.,Ky. boarders Madison, lots of connections between the two. My Richardson line for example. Hope to hear from someone. Thanks.

I work for a real estate company in Mansfield, Missouri, whose offices are in an old bank building. The original bank safe is still in the building and is a Mosler safe. On your website: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~butlercounty...
is a picture of our type of safe - the round one in the middle. We would love to know more history about this safe. It is a huge conversation starter to all who come into the real estate office, and though we have all the working parts to the safe, we don't know much about the history of it. Are there any records saying when it was made? Who it was sold to? etc, etc? It says "Farmers & Merchants Bank" across the top of it. Locally, this safe is referred to as "a Jesse James proof safe." Is that just local folklore, or was this type of safe advertised as such? Any information, or leads to get the information, you could give us would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
Denise Campbell
johnscowchow@hotmail.com

I received a copy of the will of Isaac Watson who died October 1841 in Warren County, Ohio. His executors were John Carr and Harrison Watson who were a son-in-law and son. I believe Harrison is the one buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, born April 15, 1813, died August 20, 1849. This fits with the fact that he was not mentioned in his mother's (Mary Round Watson) will of 1861. Mary listed a Mary and George Watson as heirs, probably grandchldren and I find an Elizabeth Watson with children Elizabeth and George in 1850 and 1860 in Hamilton. I would be interested as to what happened to them. Harrison Watson would be a brother to Wiliam Washington Watson, Sarah Kendall, Matilda Dunn, Juliann Carr and Elizabeth Carr, wife of John Carr.

(pg 141)1m 40-50, 2f under 5, 2f 5-10, 1f 30-40. This fits his family nicely.
Jonas married Hester Stone around 1820, children are: Mary Lakeman, Harriet Noe, Eva, Lucy, Alma and Arminta.
I'm looking for Jonas Goodenow's burial information and possible remarriage of Hester. Maybe a connection to Stone families of Butler too. I'm hoping someone has come across this family before, since I haven't found much at USgenweb. Any tips for researching this location?
Thanks,
Samantha

She was 18 or 19 years old at the time and had already given up a baby boy a couple of years earlier. Her family was from Kenturcky, her father was a (coal miner) ? who died of a heart attack when she was very young. She was the youngest of three girls. One of whom she came to live with in Middletown until she gave birth in 1970. The alleged father's name on the birth certificate was Alexander age 28. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking for family background, medical info and heritage information not to ruin any lives. Thank you.

James CLARK 1800-1877

I am looking for any ancestors of James CLARK.

He was born about 1800 in Hamilton Co. OH and died April 11, 1877 in Vermillion Co. IN. On July 2, 1820, he married Sarah Rowen (Round) in Butler Co. OH. Sarah was born June 14, 1805 in Butler Co. OH and died Dec. 1, 1835 in Vermillion Co. IN. After Sarah's death, James married Serena Bright (Cox, Smith). James had three daughters with Sarah-Mary, Jane, and Lydia. James had five children with Serena-Joseph, James, Sarah, Susan, and Cordella.

Local history books say that James came to Vermillion Co. IN in the mid 1830's. Since I know that Jane was born in 1825 and Mary was born in 1827...I would assume they were born in Ohio. I don't know the birth date of Lydia.

It looks as if James may have traveled with HATLEY's, CRABB's, and possibly STONE's. Lydia married John Crabb and Jane married John Hatley. Mary married David Stone; he was born in Ohio. Many in those families traveled on west together.

Her father was Thurman (her mother was Mary Kaus). They lived in Monroe about the same time. My Arabella was also born in 1860, and died in 1922 in Richmond, IN. She was married to Peter Burkey.

I think its very plausible that these two families were related.
JAMES LYON(S), Fairfield township - 1830's

JAMES LYON(S) was in Fairfield township in the 1830 census.
The 1834 McBride tax list online shows property in Fairfield township, section 27, as belonging to 'heirs of James Lyons'.
The 1836 plat map shows this property in the northwest corner of Section 27, northeast of Hamilton.

The 1840 census shows NANCY LYON in Fairfield township, with no males in the family. Possibly she was the widow of JAMES?

My gt gt grandfather, JOHN NEWTON LYON, was born in Ohio (somewhere) in 1799. (A cousin, SAMUEL LYON, is said to have come to Cincinnati from New Jersey in 1792. Samuel later is in Miami county).

JOHN NEWTON'S son, WILLIAM D LYON, was born in 1837. On his Civil War pension application William lists his birthplace as Hamilton. By 1840, the family had moved to Miami county, where JOHN NEWTON died.

I am looking at the possibility that JAMES is the father of JOHN NEWTON.

Any information about the family of JAMES LYON would be appreciated. I would like to confirm or eliminate him as the father of JOHN NEWTON.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Mary Lyon Shackelton
gshackelton@yahoo.com

Question: When and where did they marry and who is Margaret? George and Margaret are in the 1860 and 1870 Butler Co. censuses.
One of their children is Clara born shortly after the 1850 census. She is 20 years old in 1870 living at home. Who did Clara Williamson marry?

My gr gr gr grandparents were Archibald H. Foster and Margaret Patterson. They were married in Butler County and most likely in Morgan Township, Feb. 12, 1829. They lived in this area until they moved to Decatur County Indiana in 1848. They had children named Frank, Samuel, Archy, Margaret, and Joshua. Archibald H. Foster is listed as having been a Justice of the Peace in Butler County.

Was wondering if anyone volunteers to do lookups in Butler County, Morgan Township? Willing to pay reasonable fees.

Need documented proof of what the middle initial H. stands for. Could possibly be Handley, but I need to be sure. Also looking for family of Margaret Patterson. Originally from near Lexington Kentucky. There was a Samuel Patterson listed along with Archibald H. Foster as Justice of the Peace. Could he be related?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Susan Meadows

Moses is believed to be the brother of John, James and Edward VanLue, VanLiew, all who resided in Ross, Butler County Ohio. Moses married Elizabeth 17 Aug 1820, in Butler County and then their family moved on to Decatur County IN. where Moses died in 1829. Can anyone tell me who Moses, John, James and Edwards father was? They were born PA, Ohio or New Jersey depending on whose records you are looking at. Moses served in the war of 1812:MITCHELL'S DETACHMENT, RIFLEMEN, PENNSYLVANIA MILITIA. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get more information on his unit?
It looks like all four men came from Pennsylvania to Ohio. Moses is listed in the 1820 census for Butler Co Ohio.
I would really appreciate it if anyone out there has any information they can share. I have searched his brothers and put together their tree with internet help,
Thanks gasladysocal@msn.com
Jeanette

Alice Baker/Bullock/Broxterman

I'm looking for any information on an Alice Baker who died around 1990 in Hamilton, Ohio. She had a son Richard Bullock and Raymond Broxterman. I'm not sure if Baker is a married name or maiden. I'm fairly sure it was her last name when she died. She lived with Dorothy Baker Cole and her husband Lloyd in the late 70s and was at a rest home at 1700 Princeton Pike in the 80s. In the 50s she may have been married to a Jennewine (sp?). The 1930 census shows her with Raymond Broxterman in St. Bernard/Cincinnati. Her first child Richard was born in 1924 in Lockland, Ohio. The father was Dewey Bullock from Mt. Vernon / Maysville / Pikesville / Kentucky. I've hit a dead end. Thanks.

James and Polly Rounds

James Rounds and Polly Sands were in Butler or Brown County in the early 1800's, and had a son named Lemuel in about 1810, don't know if this is a brother to the unnamed son born in 1805, or that they named him Lemuel and he was born later. Lemuel was father to 5 children and was married to Elizabeth ? who was from Kentucky, born about 1804. The Childrens' names are: John, Amanda, Richard, James and Cephas. Cephas is my gggrandfather. Do you have a birth date for James? or Polly?
