I am looking for where the two above mentioned people might be buried. Adam and his wife both died in Auglaize County, he was a farmer and the had about 15 children. I tried findagrave.com and there are several Accuntius buried at St. Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery, but no Adam and Caroline. Is there another Lutheran Cemetery in the area? With all the people researching this family I was hoping someone still within the area might know where they are. Thank you very much!

Old Auglaize Co. Schools--One Rooms, Catholic, Etc. UPDATE

Many people have asked why I have not included One-Room Schoolhouses, Catholic and private schools, higher education schools, and schools still in use on my website

http://www.oldohioschools.com/auglaize_county.htm

Now people are going to have the chance to sponsor a school they would like to see added.

This website was my final project for my master's in education degree in 2008. I had to limit the scope of this project to schools which are demolished, abandoned, or closed and reused in some way. I have also added "endangered" schools as ones that will fall into one of the first three categories after current building projects/levies are finished.

I am offering a school sponsorship for $5.00 per school listing for those who would like to see their cherished one room, Catholic, or still-in-use school added to this site.

As you can see from the site, the main information I need is:
School Name
Location (exact address if possible otherwise road or intersection is good)
City or Township
Year built (major additions are also noted here)
Year closed OR year Demolished
If closed, then current use is also needed (i.e. abandoned, private
residence, church, etc).

I can also put up to 4 pictures for each one.
1. The Main picture-- if currently standing I like this to be what it looks
like right now. If gone, then the best known picture of it.
2. I can link the BUILT year to another old view of the building.
3. I can link the DEMOLISHED or CLOSED year to the school actually being
razed or what it looked like at the time it closed.
4. I can link the *Gone* to an empty lot view of what the current site looks
like or link it to another website, for example if it is now a church I can
link the *Church* to the church's website.

I put over 5000 miles on my car each summer traveling around getting photos and I just recently had to upgrade to a larger server because I have so many schools state wide featured.

If you are intersted in sponsoring a school listing for your county, please contact me at aaronturner@neo.rr.com

I will also list your name, if you want, as a sponsor under the picture. Again $5.00 per school for a permanent spot on the site. Thank you for your interest and I will begin building a spot for your school as soon as I hear from you.
Hi Suzan,

I have found at the IGI three Kunz:
Philip, married may 24, 1866 to Mary Reichelderfer
Leo, married january 26, 1865 to Barbara Klipfel
Francis, married septemberr 12, 1861 to Joseph Stepleton

I suppose, the Kunz family members might have originated from Deisslingen, Wuerttemberg, Germany. The name is quite common there. And there lived also other Deisslingen emigrants in Douqouchet, Auglaize Co, Ohio, as i. e. the Hengstlerr Family. I guess also the Merkle, Merkley, Markley, Bob, Bechtold, Herbst families in Auglaize Co came from Deisslingen. I further guess that some other families came from nearby places as the Kohler, Koch, Brodbeck, Engeser, Keck.

Rose in Deisslingen, Germany

Just curious if Mr. RITCHIE lived near to the General Store of Joseph GUTMAN in GUTMAN.

He was my ancestor.

In 1988 visited the huge old farmhouse/store there at the intersection. Was amazed that it was still there and yet, NOT OCCUPIED. It did not look all that 'run down' as the farmer, who my mother and I talked with for quite a while. He gave us a little bit of background about it.

Met the owner, the farmer of the land, and he said, he thought of razing the building, because so many out-of-towner's, proclaimed relatives, were 'looting' the place.

Thank you

Patricia
cw
I am a descendant of Nelson Reed Basil and I don't know who his parents were. He was born about 1798 in Maryland, married Lucy Marshall in 1842 in Allen County, Ohio and he died between 1860-70 in Auglaize County. There was also another, younger, man of the same name nearby. I don't know how he is related. I wonder if the mother of mine was a Reed.
Do you have any female Reeds who married a Basil?

Above was my Step Gt. Grandmother and 2nd wife of Lemuel/Lawrence Allen BIDWELL; they resided in New Hampshire, Goshen Twp, Auglaize Co OH. Marriage was a Civil Ceremony.
They had their last child (Boniface) on 10 Mar 1898 and by the 1 Jun 1900 Census, husband LL declares himself to be a 'widower'.
All records extant EXCEPT any reference to her Death, cause, burial or obit.
Have made personal in-depth search in County for over 30 years, now grasping at straws.
She was Catholic, and the youngest daughters were placed in custody of the Sister of the Precious Blood (Minster) after 1900 and before the death of LL in 1906. (Full custody, not as Boarding students). Baby Boniface was not placed 'out' but raised by my Grandfather (his oldest half-brother) and his oldest full sister since they were grown by 1898. Boniface never married.
This family was (dirt) poor by 1906.
----> Need some idea where else to look for Mary's story. Before her children passed away, NO ONE would come forward, no one searching. Does this fall into the "Dysfunctional" mysteries we find at times?
Private email please, since this is one for a lot of speculation before we reach consensus.

"Find a Grave" has transcriptions for both St. Joseph and Old St. Joseph Cemeteries in Wapakoneta. Does anyone know if these transcriptions are complete or partials? Would it be best to write to these cemeteries directly?
If so, can someone (Please!) give me the addresses for these cemeteries!
Many thanks for any help -
Patricia
Oregon

There is a DVD available that has all of the Auglaize cemeteries complete with photos of the graves.
I have the DVD but unfortunately it is in Colorado and I am in Florida so I cannot email you the photograph of the grave.
I have forgotten the name of the company that put it out but I am sure Google would bring it up. It is inexpensive.

Best
G. William Oakley

Hi Sharon,
Thanks a lot for the cemetery book listings from Willow Branch. It was good to get the information on William Jett, d. 1858. I am just surprised there was nothing about his wife, Virginia.
John W. and his wife Lucinda are the direct line I am working on. I think it is just a typo on your part (it happens) but you show Lucinda'a death Dec 4, 1901. Forthe record it should be Dec 4, 1914.
Thanks again for your help.
Marlin

I recently purchased a postcard in Missouri. It was to a Mr. Samuel Heiss, St. Mary's, Ohio, from his cousin Mrs. Samuel Miller. The postdate on the card is Nov 1923. On the postcard, Mrs. Miller tells Mr. Heiss about her mother-in-laws death.

I would love for a close family member to own this card. If you are a close family member or know how I can reach a close family member, please let me know.

Thank you! Since I started this inquiry, I received a "bad" photocopy of photographs taken by my great-aunt at the cemetery in 1964 or so. It really doesn't show anything.

I'll look into that CD, though, because so many of my paternal relatives are buried in Ohio, mostly in Auglaize, Shelby, and some in Franklin counties.

I really appreciate everyone's replies! Thank you so very much!
Sheri

The St. Joe Cemetery inscriptions at www.findagrave.com are partial and have more recent burials than older ones. You can contact the caretaker for the new cemetery at 419-738-4140. He may also have records for the old cemetery. Many of the burials from the old cemetery were re-interred after the new cemetery was opened. I've not looked for records through the church, but you might also contact the Parish office at 309 Perry Street, Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895. The Parish office number is 419-738-2115. The Auglaize County Genealogical Society has also transcribed the stones and books can be purchased through Auglaize County Genealogical Society, PO 2021, Wapakoneta, Ohio, 45895. (burials are before 1982)
