Does someone have information to parents of RHUAMY OSBORN. I have been hopeless trying to find her in census records. According to later census records of her children it shows she was born in Ohio. She should have been born in the mid 1840's. FamilySearch shows that she was married 02 Feb 1871 in Hardin County to WESLEY NEWLAND sometimes known as John Wesley). It was said she died in 1876, probably in childbirth. In the 1880 census Wesley was in Wayne Twp. He is said to have died in 1892. Does anyone have a connection with this family and know where Rhuamy and Wesley are buried.
Any help will be appreciated.

Were Christina and George actually married and what happened to Christina? Did she, perhaps, die after the birth. I can find no record of her.

I am looking for any information on Henry SCULLIN who was born about 1817 in Ireland. In Tuscarawas he was a ship's chandler and he died of cholera in July 1850 in Tuscarawas, Ohio, probably in New Philadelphia.
His wife's name was Mary Ann SMETTS, born 1825 in Starke, Ohio, died in 1889 in Auglaize, Ohio under the name CORDREY. Her second husband was Riley CORDREY. I would like to have any info about Mary Ann, I know nothing of her parents. She had a brother named Philip SMETTS, born 1818 in Tuscarawas, Ohio, died 1902 in Tuscarawas, Ohio.
Henry & Mary Ann had 3 children; Elizabeth Ellen SCULLIN b1845, Henry Jeremiah SCULLIN b1849, Margaret A SCULLIN b1850 possibly.
Riley Cordrey & his first wife had 4 children. Riley & Mary Ann had 8 more; Sarah Cynthia, John R., Alice, Arminta, Nathan Ellsworth, Alvaretta, Mary Olive, Irene Arvinda/Adell.
When Riley and Mary Ann married in late 1850, they lived in Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas, Ohio. They moved to Goshen Twp, Auglaize, Ohio sometime after 1863. They are buried there.

Was his father also John? I descend from: John W., Francis (Frank) M Stoker. John owned a lot of land in the St.Mary's area. Thought there might be some type of write up on him since he was a large landowner and early settler. Have not been able to find a death record for Frank. Lived most of his life in Auglaize, buried there, but no death record for him there. I think he worked on the canals. Any help on either of these Stokers, would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Auglaize County/Richmond Indiana connection?

Hello List. In talking to a newly found "cousin," we both are puzzled by the number of connections we found in our German families between Auglaize County and Richmond Indiana. Does anyone know of a connection between the two locales? I would love some insight about why so many of my German relatives moved back and forth between the two communities.

T.I.A.

Beth Lias
Beavercreek, Ohio

George Shimmel b 1795 Germany

My 3ggrandfather, the subject George Shimmel, is found in Pushita Twp in the 1850 census. He has a wife Mary and children George, Adam, Anthony, Mary, Joseph, Ann and John, the last my ancestor. John moves to Franklin Co., OH, but the rest I have little or nothing on. Adam may have been in Piqua, but even that is iffy.

The surname has various spellings like Schimell, Shemmel, Schimel, etc. IOW, the 'c' and second 'm' or 'l' are optional and the vowels are variable.

If anyone has any information on this family I'd be happy to correspond.

BTW, John's 1900c says he arrived in the US in 1848. (which considering I have him b 1849 is a good trick!)

Dave Dardinger

POW/MIA Korean War, Auglaize Co. GUNTHER

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Auglaize County, Ohio as his home of record.

Soldier:CHARLES WUILLIAM GUNTHER
Born: March 2, 1928. Caucasian
Date of loss: June 19, 1953. MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 51 families in Ohio that have not been located. There is one family from Auglaize County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Campbell family reunion in Lakeview about 1889

I have a picture postcard of my Campbell ancestors at a family reunion. On the back, handwritten is "August 1, Lakeview, Ohio." There is a place for a stamp - it is a regular old postcard, no border, sepia tone.

I inherited it. My 2nd great grandfather, Thomas Henry Taylor, is in it, and he died in August, 1889 - he was married to Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of John L. Campbell. Their son, my great grandfather, Murray Wilson Taylor, married Martha Eloise Campbell, daughter of John Wallace Campbell and Zebuline Clarinda Rhodes Campbell. They all resided in Allen/Auglaize/Shelby counties (as time went on and counties changed.)

Does anyone know anything about a Campbell family reunion in Lakeview, Logan County, in August of 1889 or so? There is one young man in a soldier uniform, but I can't tell what kind it is. It is a picnic table, with the large family gathering, a small house right behind them, and a horse in the background.

Maybe there was an article in a local paper? Any help would be appreciated.
71st Ohio Regiment Reunion - hope to identify vets in photo

My gr-gr-grandfather was Thomas Henry Taylor (m.Elizabeth Campbell) and another gr-gr-grandfather was John Wallace Campbell (m.Zebuline Clarinda Rhodes), both of Auglaize, Ohio. My great grandparents were Murray Wilson Taylor m.Martha Campbell. My 3rd great grandparents were John L. Campbell/Elizabeth Hughey McCullough p. of Elizabeth Campbell, AND Joseph Campbell/Clarissa Brannum p. of John Wallace Campbell.

I know that John W. Campbell was in the 71st Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company G - other extended family members were also in that regiment, most in the same company. These include Ira Graves Rhodes (son of Asa W. Rhodes), Shadrick Montgomery Jr, Charles H. Montgomery, Asa Rhodes Jr, Bartlett Rhodes, John Taylor, and Ebenezer Spray - I have no idea what any of them looked like!

I have a photograph inherited from my grandfather Gerald Taylor of one of the 71st OVI Reunions - it looks like it might have been in front of the G.A.R. hall in Ludlow Falls, Ohio? I would love to identify some of these veterans, including my own relatives! (I am pretty sure I know who is Thomas Taylor and John Wallace Campbell, because I have other photos of Thomas, and one of a Campbell reunion.)

I am not positive of the year, either. Thomas Taylor died 8/18/1889 - I am not sure when the reunion took place that year. There are approximately 85 men, 2 women, and 2 boys in the photo.

Anyone with ideas or info would be appreciated.

Also his wife Rebecca (Howell) Stevenson seems to disappear after she was listed in the 1860 census. I know that Elias remarried in Nov. of 1864. I have a copy of the marriage license.. So I am assuming that Rebecca died between the census in 1860 and before Nov. of 1864.. The only other choice would be a divorce...I do not know if they kept those type of records...Any help would be great..Thank you

My G4 grandfather was Isaac HARDEN who lived in Somerset Co., PA in the 1700s and early 1800s. One of his sons, John HARDEN or HARDIN, migrated to Allen County in the early 1800s and then moved to Auglaize County. I understand that John's descendants spelled their surname as HARDIN.
Hello

We have information that Anna Rohrer b. July 13. 1851 in Philadelphia, daughter of John Rohrer and Walburga Fischer ( Fisher)from Germany spent her girlhood years in St. Marys. She married Henry Niehaus in 1881 at Celina. She died Oct 28, 1938 in Celina and is buried at IC church Cemetery in Celina.

We would like to find any information about Anna while living in St. Marys. Maybe there are city directories, school class lists, census, church records as they were Catholic. We are trying to find where in Germany her parents lived and were born.

Thanks so much for any help or reference.

Marj

Elizabeth Bannon Jones 1840-1880+ Auglaize Co OH

I am searching for the death date and place for Elizabeth Bannon Jones. She was born 1840 in Salem, Auglaize Co OH. Her parents were John Bannon and Margaret Hesser. She married Charles Harrison Jones in Auglaize Co 14 Jul 1859. Charles Harrison Jones died between 1875-1880. I don't find Elizabeth in 1900. Does anyone have cemetery records for Auglaize Co?

Her name was actually Sarah Elizabeth, but she went mostly by Elizabeth -- just as Charles sometimes is listed as Harrison Jones. They seemed to like their middle names better than their given name. I found an Elizabeth Jones in Duchouquet Infirmary in 1900, but the enrollment sheet for this lady leads me to believe it is not MY Elizabeth.

Her children were:
Margaret Marietta born 1860 (died young)
Charles I Jones born 1865
Edward Jones born 1868
Albert L Jones born 1870
Amanda Ellen Jones born 1874
Benjamin Franklin Jones born 1875

Any information

Is there a cemetery where the inmates of this infirmary are buried? I am interested in the time frame of this institution. Was it a mental hospital? Was it a medical hospital? On the 1900 census it looks like there are 60+ inmates. There is an Elizabeth Jones listed as an inmate in 1900. This is the reason for my interest. Any historical facts would be appreciated.

I am looking for their death dates and burial info. He died 1875-1880 and she died after 1880. In 1900 there is an Elizabeth Jones in the Infirmary in Duchouchet (?). I don't know if this is her, as the lady there is a bit older, but who knows how accurate the records were in such a big institution. They had Charles I Jones abt 1865; Edward Jones abt 1868; Louis Jones abt 1869; Ella A Jones abt 1873; and Benjamin Franklin Jones abt 1875. They both went by their middle names most of the time.

Obit/Burial Look-Up for William Cunningham - died Feb. 2, 1887

My great grandfather, William Cunningham, died on February 2, 1887.

He died in Lima. I have a copy of his death record from Allen County. I don't know where he is buried. A very nice volunteer did a look-up for me and could find no obituary for him in the Lima or Allen County newspapers. This was a bit of a surprise, since he was both a lawyer and a Civil War veteran.

He, his wife and two children are in Auglaize County in the 1880 census. Both his family and his wife's family (her maiden name was Wentz) lived in Auglaize County for some years before 1880.

William's father - James M. Cunningham, Sr. - died in St. Mary's on July 23, 1884. I do not know where he is buried either. My guess is that they are buried in the same cemetery, but that is just a guess. William had several brothers who lived in Auglaize County as well and may be buried there, but I do not know.

I have a hunch that William is buried in Auglaize County and that there may be an obit for him in the Auglaize County papers.

Is there someone who could check? I would very much appreciate it. Again, his name was William Cunningham, and he died in Lima on February 2, 1887. I would also be interested in whether there was an obit for his father, James M. Sr., who as noted above, died July 23, 1884, but I am currently more interested in William.

If more information would help, please e-mail me. Thanks!

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com
What was a "cutter" in the 1890s in Auglaize County?

An ancestor of mine listed his occupation in the 1900 census as a "cutter" or at least that's what it looked like.

Does anyone have any idea what a "cutter" was in Auglaize County in the 1890s?

Based on information in a later census, it may have had to do with cutting cloth, but that doesn't seem to qualify as an occupation.

Does anyone know what type of business might have employed a "cutter"? I am guessing he was not a meat cutter -- or he would have called himself a butcher or meat cutter. I am guessing he was not a pipe cutter or a metal cutter or he would have used those words, but maybe not.

Does anyone know of any business in Auglaize County in the 1890s that had the word "cutter" or a similar word in its name?

Thanks for any help!
Anyone Named Wambold in Auglaize County?

Does anyone have any information about anyone named Wambold in Auglaize County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries?

In particular, I am looking for information about Milton Wambold and Lulu Cunningham, who were married in Auglaize County on April 3, 1895. Her family was from Auglaize County. I do not know where his family was from, but I believe it was the Philadelphia area or at least somewhere in Pennsylvania. Lulu had just turned 16 when she got married. I believe her husband was much older, perhaps in his 40's. I don't know Milton's dates or his parents' names or anything else about him.

Milton and Lulu had two children, Roger and Beulah. I have a fair amount of information about their later life. I know where Beulah is buried (Philadelphia), although I do not know where Roger is buried. Beulah married a man named Charles O. Nickle. Apparently they had no children. Roger may have been married to a woman named Anna. I don't know if they had any children.

By 1916, I think Lulu was living in Philadelphia with her mother (a widow) and her two children, but apparently her husband, Milton, was out of the picture. My hunch is that her husband was the reason for the move to Philadelphia and either died or they were divorced after they got there. Lulu died about 1949 in Philadelphia and is buried there, in the same cemetery plot as her mother and daughter Beulah -- but no husbands are there for any of the three of them. My understanding is that Beulah and her husband divorced.

I'm trying to find out about Milton Wambold's background and his later life. Where did he come from? What was he doing in Auglaize County (probably Wapak)? When did Milton and Lulu leave Auglaize County? Also, can anyone help me with more information about their marriage? (It's recorded in Book 7 of the Auglaize County Marriage Records.) Is there anyone who would be willing to check the local newspapers for something about their wedding, which took place on April 3, 1895? I don't know who officiated, but Lulu's grandfather was a minister named Jacob Wentz.

Can anyone point me to any directories or anything like that for the 1895-1916 period that might list them? It might be a little early for a telephone directory, but was there a city directory?

If anyone can help, I would be very grateful. Please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com
They lived in Fryburg Ohio (Pusheta Township) Allen/Auglaize County according to the 1840, 1850, and 1870 census.

Any additional information anyone may have would be greatly appreciated, specifically where they lived in Germany and marriage date.

email me at grupp72@aol.com
Hi,

I wondered if someone familiar with the cemetery inscription books published by the Auglaize County Chapter of OGS could help me with a transcription in one of their books.

Fort Amanda Cemetery in Logan Twp appears in Vol.3, Book 2 of Auglaize County Cemetery Inscriptions. On p.265 there are entries for 3 or 4 members of the Bice family.

The entries look like this, in this order:
Bice, Eliza Ann d. Jan.2,1904 79y 3m 23d
ss Zedich d.July 20,1861 40y 4m 11d
, 11y 1m 1d d.___,12,1844?
Bice, Elizabeth Feb.13,18__ 20y 5d

Do the letters "ss" mean "same stone"? I do have a newspaper article that says 2 sons of Eliza and Zadock Bice put up a stone at the grave soon after their mother was buried there.

Also, for the entry for the 11 year old - can I assume he/she also appears on the same stone as Eliza and Zedich? Or is there just a stone marked with an age and year but no name that appears between Elizabeth Bice and the other 2 Bices.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Linda

Frederick Hilzerman appears in German, Auglaize County 1860 census. He is 32 b Prussia, and Catherine, maybe his wife, is 42 b Meck. Others in the household incl JOhn Hilzerman 20, Charles 18, Christian 16, Henrietta 14, Frederick 12, Gredricka 8, Caroline 4 and William Barnbrook 76 Pru. I cannot find this family again beofre or after this census. I think Wm Barnbrook probably died shortly after this census. But the surname must be misspelled, I can't find any of the kids, nothing...poof....gone! Do you know something that might help?
I would like to share information with others researching the Klipfel and allied families of Auglaize County. In 1834, at age 56, Joseph Klipfel, along with his wife Margaret and their adult children, left Schweinfurt, Bavaria to begin a new life. Going directly to Pusheta Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, this strong family established themselves as part of the fabric of community life for generations to come. Daughter Margaret married Joseph Wehner and daughter Catherine married John Brunn. Sons Augustus and Franz married Miller (or Mueller) sisters; Augustus married Franziska and Franz married Elizabeth. After Augustus' death, Franziska married second John Rammelmeier. Grandson Augustus owned Klipfel's Grocery for many years. Yet another Augustus took his family to Beulah, Pueblo County, Colorado and thus established the Rocky Mountain branch of the Klipfel family.

Christian and Katharina Eisenhut are my great, great, grandparents. As I'm working on my genealogy, I've been unable to find the maiden name of Katharina Eisenhut. They both were born in Hesse-Darnstadt, Germany about 1811. They came to America about 1851 or 1852. Their two youngest children were born in the United States. Margaret Eisenhut about 1852 in New York and Mary Eisenhut about 1855 in Ohio. Their two oldest children, Katherine Eisenhut Stroh, born July 13, 1842 and George William Eisenhut, born July 22, 1844, were born in Hesse-Darnstadt, Germany.

If you know anything about this family, please let me know. There are other family members also trying to locate Katharina's maiden name. Thanks.

I am making a scrap book of a vacation shared in Minster, OH this summer, and I was hoping someone out there might be willing to share pictures of the little ice cream place next to the Dannon Yogurt plant, and any pictures of the school's too. I have a couple of the schools, but not the greatest. Didn't think to take a pic of the Tasty Treat place, when my b/f (who lived there as a child) stopped there to get a chocolate malt.

I have been doing web searches but can not find one picture of the Tasty Treat's place, anywhere I've looked. Would love some help!

Thanks!
Tammy
Seattle, WA

She is buried in the German Protestant Cemetery (row 8, section 3). She was the wife of Charles Klute. I remember a file in the library indexed from the church records.
