NEWARK: A memorial service for Ernest Delmar Goldsmith, Sr., age 85, of Newark, Ohio will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 16, at the Heath Chapel of the Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service.
Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Ernest passed on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at The Inn at SharonBrooke.

He was born January 22, 1926 in Bellaire, Ohio to the late Carl Adam and Mary Luease (Combs) Goldsmith.

Ernest was a 1943 graduate of Thornville High School and was a long-time machinist in the aviation industry. He enlisted twice in the United States Army, serving in the Japanese Occupation and the Korean Conflict.
He had also been a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes between his periods of active duty in the Army. He loved fishing, gardening and singing.
He was known to work on and solve a crossword puzzle on a daily basis.
He is survived by a son, Ernest Delmar (Brenda) Goldsmith of Newark, Ohio; daughter, Sue Ann (Kenneth) Bixler of Newark; grandchildren, Stacie Bixler, Andrea Dietrich, Tiffany Goldsmith and Brooke Goldsmith; great-grandchildren, Madison, Joey and Jacob; brothers, John Douglas Goldsmith, Dewey Goldsmith, Edward Young, Tom Young, Chuck Young and David Young; many nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Betty Colling; and former wife, Barbara Heidtman Coles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Forrest Goldsmith, Billy Young and Owen Young; and a sister, Gladys Taylor.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath, Ohio.
