We are very interested. Myself, my sister, my brother, my children and my grandchildren. We were unaware of the book until we took my 95 year old Mother back to Marmarth last week. Her family is in the book, her house is still standing as is her Father's drug store, although the drug store is not occupied. Please keep us updated on the possible reprint or availability of the info on disk

All I know is that a past county commisioner told me that the committee could not come up with enough money to get them published so the county supplied the money. Doesn't matter anyway because until someone can decide who has the copyright, the book can not be republished without their permission anyway so I guess the project is dead. Too bad a bunch of politics and arguing get in the way of preserving history.
My mother was co-chairman of this committee. She is still alive and well and was quite surprised when she read the county owned the copyright. These ladies pre-sold books and their own investment inorder to get the Slope Saga printed and published. The local paper let these ladies use their office after business hours to set up the pages. It is a terrific book. My sister and I refer to that year as the year we "lost our parents to the past" as they researched information and made personal contact with family members all over the United States through many phone calls and letters. Many of these people were very cooperative in sending their family history.

If the compiler and the county could sit down and negotiate, maybe a reasonable deal could be worked out between them. When our library first tried to locate this book, we were told that 2500 copies had been printed and had been sold as far away as Europe. The Bowman museum and the county clerk receive many requests for a reprint. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but if the two parties could get together, the book would be made available for a lot more people.
Thanks for your response. Keep us in mind if any additional copy surfaces.

Well after much inquiring and talking to many people in the Slope area, apparently there is some argument about how owns the original book copyrights. Apparently three people were in charge of putting the book together, but when it came to being published they could not raise all the money to pay the publisher. So the county paid the bill and hence the book was published. So now the argument is who owns the rights to it, the county says they do and the one living person of the three says she does or has transferred the rights to the museum in Bowmman, ND. Not being sure of who would give the permission to republish, the project is just sitting. Needless to say due to petty bickering, this valuable piece of history may vanish. I still have my copy and am willing to do lookups for whomever wants them done.

There is discussion on the table about reprinting the Slope Saga originally produced in 1976. The discussion is that there would be a three volume set of the book for about $80-$100 and also an electronic edition on CD for about $60. Is there any interest out there for new copies of the book?
Hi Barbara!

I was just googling this book to see if a copy might be for sale (I can dream, can't I? haha). Found this message you posted.

Anywho - my mother has Slope Saga. I'm going over there next week and will look it up for you. Will try to get it posted ASAP.

Should anyone else have this book, feel free to share the info. =o)

Emma Hendrickson Lindberg

Emma Hendrickson married Axel Vilhelm Lindberg about 1908 at Hamlin County South Dakota. In 1910 they are at Hamlin County ED 206, 13B, 54, Florence Township. By 1920 they had moved to Slope County in North Dakota, ED 193, 8A, 11, Rainy Butte Township. They are both buried in the New England Cemetery, Hettinger County.

Axel Lindberg came from Pajala in North Sweden. A Lindberg relative has Emma Hendrickson’s maiden name as Weckabetta.

We believe her parents were John Hendrickson, b. 1847 Finland, in his first marriage, with Bertha, b. 1857 Finland, d. about 1907. They lived in Dixon Township. They were married about 1882, possibly in Hamlin County. Children were: Charly, Dec 1882; Anna, March 1884; Hilma, May 1885; Emma 1888; Alfred Nov 1896.

About 1908, John married a Hannah, b. ca 1876 Finland. They had Leonard, b. 1909.

Does anyone have information about these families ? We do not know when or where John and Hannah died, or where Bertha is buried.

David Larson in SLC researching for Dan Lindberg. Emma is Dan’s paternal grandmother.
I'd try the Slope Messenger, New England, N.D. I lived in Marmarth from 1935 through 1946, and it seems like I was in school with some Austin kids. Later there was a "Shag" Austin that was a deputy sheriff in Walworth County, S.D.
