death of Wallis (Wallace) Bittner 1900-1910 Sheridan County, ND

Daniel and Eva Bittner(Bettner)appear in Wells, Wells, ND
in the 1900 census with a son Wallis (Wallace?) Bittner
born May 1894. His father was a minister.
The 1910 census does not contain Wallis, so assume he died
between 1900-1910 and the family appearing in Goodrich, Sheridan, ND in 1910.
Is there a burial of Wallis Bittner in ND?

I am looking for information regarding any records of land ownership, church records, historical information, or access to newspapers about Goodrich in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

My great grandparents, Alfred and Susanna Poulson settled there in 1898 and were farmers. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal church. My great grandmother died in 1906 and is buried in the Goodrich City Cemetery. I have an obituary from "The Citizen". I would like to know if there are any newspaper or church records from August 1911 that would show anything about the death of my great grandfather, Alfred Poulson. He is listed in the 1910 census under "Paulson" as living in Goodrich, but he is not buried in the family plot in the Goodrich cemetery and I am looking for clues as to where he might be buried.

Thank you for the info. I already wrote for the death certificate and one was not found. Apparently they weren't always recorded in 1911, I have found that to be true kind of all over the country in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

I have seen the entries for my great grandmother and Alta and Lloyd and found them mentioned in a note by my grandmother. I also have pictures of their grave taken by some family members who visited North Dakota. The burial in Boone County is news to me, it could be an actual Paulson as I have seen an Alfred J. Paulson in the census, but I will check it out. I have a pretty comprehensive list of the children of Alfred and Susanna from the note my grandmother wrote, it just looks like she stopped in the middle and never finished. I really appreciate your help and will follow up on it.

I am having difficulty finding any information at all about my great grandfather, Alfred John Poulson. He is almost non-existant in the census records as far as I can tell. I have him in 1880 in Cass County, IN; can't find him in 1900, although I have an obituary for his wife stating they moved to Goodrich, Sheridan County, ND in 1898. In 1910 I find him in Sheridan Cty, ND. He supposedly died August 13, 1911, but I can find no record of his death or burial anywhere in ND. I also cannot trace him farther back than the 1880 census. He was supposedly born to John & Susanna Bryant Poulson Jan. 29, 1853 in Pulaski Cty, IN, but this family just does not show up anywhere that I can find.
Would appreciate any evidence of the family anyone has come across.

If you haven't already done so, a good first step would be to request a death certifcate for your great grandfather from the North Dakota Department of Health at http://www.health.state.nd.us/vital/death.htm. You can get a certificate for only $5.00; if you are lucky, it will include the place of burial.

I checked my copy of "Cemeteries of Sheridan County North Dakota" for your great-grandfather without success. I did, however, find entries in the index for your great-grandmother, Susanna, with Alta & Lloyd in the same plot. I also noted another Pauson burial that might interest you. It reads:

No. 13 The PAULSON Burial NW1/4 NW1/4 32 Boone Township

PAULSON ns (no stone) TWO SMALL GIRLS dau of Alfred J., probably died before 1905. Information from the Hoffman Collection. Did not find burial - must be farmed over.

I would guess that if you can track down the Hoffman Collection, there may be additional information about this entry.

I also checked my copy of "Sheridan County Heritage '89" - which I find to be an invaluable resource for this area. Unfortunately, I did not find an entry for your great-grandfather.

Good luck with your research!

While not quite as old a set of information as you may want, I thought I would post the following to see if they are of any help.

You expressed some interest in land records. The following are for 1914.

http://www.odessa3.org/collections/land/nodak/

Paulson, A.

I am looking for someone who might have access to some plat maps of the Goodrich area for the early 1900's. My grandmother's family, lived there from 1898 until around 1920. I would be interested in maps showing where the following sections of land were located:
Paulson (Poulson), A. J. 147N 74W 32
Paulson (Poulson), Elda M. 145N 76W 24
Paulson (Poulson), H. G. 147N 76W 31

Bureau of Land Management records for Sheridan County:
POULSON ALFRED J 05 147 N 074 W 032 160 251101 PA 6628 10/10/1904
POULSON EARL W 05 146 N 076 W 006 80 251101 PA 7514 11/14/1905
POULSON EARL W 05 146 N 076 W 006 41.76 251101 PA 7514 11/14/1905
POULSON EARL W 05 146 N 076 W 006 42.08 251101 PA 7514 11/14/1905
POULSON ELDA M 05 145 N 076 W 024 160 251101 PA 402702 05/04/1914
POULSON MYRTLE 05 146 N 076 W 030 160 272002 PA 8629 04/02/1908

Also, if anyone has access to photos of Goodrich from that time period showing what the town looked like I would be very interested and also in finding out where the church records from the Methodist Episcopal Church that was located there at that time might be found.
Thank you!

Hi--I'm searching for a Martin J. Thompson & his mother, Anna Thompson who may have lived in McClusky sometime after 1910 & before 1930. Martin was born 18 Jan. 1870 in Norway & moved with his parents to Jackson County, Wis. where they are listed on the 1880 Norwegians in Wis. Census.Martin was shown living along in Dover Twsp.,N.D. in the 1900 Census. His father died in 1904. In 1910 he's shown living with his wife, Louise & children plus his mother, Anna, in Dover Twsp. N.D. I have reason to believe he moved to McClusky sometime after that with his family & possibly his mother, if she was still alive. She was born abt 1838 & I believe she died about 1918. In 1930 Census his wife, Louise, is shown living as head of house with children so believe Martin died prior to that. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Roger,

It's cousin Lori here. I have some information from Great Aunt Martha as well and have pieced together a bit of information but the trail disappears trying to trace Gottlieb and Paulina for me. Martha mentioned Karlsruhe, some reunion information mentions Saratov and a distant cousin whose great grandfather was Andrew believes they were from Stavropol but records aren't available there yet which makes things difficult. I have found lots of information on the brothers and Elizabeth and heard Gottlieb's mother was probably name Elizabeth Becker but that's all I know.

We should talk and compare notes!

Bob,

I will get with Mom and see what she has on the relatives from Canada. I know she has kept in touch with them and they have come to visit and go shopping in Montana quite often. It's hard for me to believe that its worth going to northern Montana to shop, but compared to Saskatchawan ...

Yes, the rodeo in Wolf Point was the main event of the year and still is. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back then for many years.

Grandma Rose was a wonderful woman. After Grandpa Rudy passed she went back to college and became a school teacher. She also began to travel with some girlfriends, to Europe mostly. She moved her house (a newer one built after the other burned in the late 50's) from the farm into Wolf Point (across the Missouri River on the ice in winter, which is quite a story in itself). Our home was seven miles outside town, so having Grandma in town gave us a place to go in "the big city." In the years of high school, which was in town, we went to her house often after school and stayed the night when some event kept us out late. So we were close. Grandma Rose and my mom really inspired me to get an education and to see the world which I'm sure is one of the reasons I've made a career of the Air Force.
There were four Schneider brothers who came to North Dakota from Neuburg Russia. One of them, Jacob and his family left for Canada, where there relatives still live.

My Grandfather Karl Schneider and his wife Katherina (Bitterman) Schneider had a number of children including Eva, who was the oldest child.

Eva Schneider married Ludwig Huber and moved I believe to 164 Manitoba St. E Moose Jaw Sask. Canada. Eva (Schneider) Huber was born about 1897 and died March 7, 1957 MooseJaw Sask. Canada. Her husband later remarried. I have photo's from when my dad attended his sister's funeral. I also think that I have some photos of members of that family and Eva's wedding picture.

If you go to the following website you can see some of the history (and speculation.) I still haven't had anybody from either of those branches of the family contact me directly. It would sure be nice to hear from those branches of the family.

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p...

Dear Jim;

Thank you for you post and say hello to you mother. Welcome to the world of figuring out family relationships!

It is a pleasure to meet you. As to history, I haven't done much to go earlier than the arrival to Neuburg Russia by Andreas Schneider and this wife in the early 1800's. I have some clues, I need to research but haven't gotten the time to do that yet. Most of what I know has been posted on this or one of the websites that I have given links to in my posts on this website.

My research goes in fits and starts. Your contact may spur me on again. It has been a good 3 months since I have done much of anything.

As to recent history, I may have some interesting stuff. Your grandmother, Rose was a really wonderful lady. I have a letter from her to my mom and dad and a whole bunch of pictures and Wolf Point picture postcards that she sent to our family. Many of the picture postcards are of the Wolf Point rodeo, which seemed to have been a community highlight.

I know that I sure enjoyed the time on the farm/ranch that I spent there briefly one summer.

I have been saying to myself and some of the cousins that I need to take a month or two and pull together a bunch of digital pictures of Montana, Saskatawan (sp?), North Dakota, Lodi, Gazel, and Bremerton, and put them in a CD and send copies to cousins to see what they can identify.

I am curious, one of Rose's older sisters lived up near Moosejaw in Canada. Because your grandparents would have been physically closer, do you have much correspondence, on oral history on them?

Also one of your great grandfathers brothers moved from North Dakota to Canada.

There are two Canadian branches of the family that should have lots of rich history that I haven't been able to find find contacts wtih. Canada has lots of nationally sponsored geneology documentation and so it could provide some interesting results and avoid reinventing the wheel to some extent.

Bob, I am the son of one of your cousins. My mother is Katherine (Berreth) Roy, the daughter of Rudolph Berreth and Rose Schneider. I have many fond memories of going to Grandma's house on the farm after attending church near the very small town of Vida, Montana, which is about 25 miles south of Wolf Point. It is really in the middle of nowhere still.

My parents own a farm much closer to Wolf Point, north of the Missouri River. The old farm is still in the family. Mom's brother, Doug, passed away several years ago, but his wife Georgia, still owns much of the land I believe. Doug and Georgia Berreth had three sons: Ron, Brian and Kendall. My mother has a younger sister, Marian, who had 4 children: Kerry, Lori, Kim, and Bill Strong. I have a brother Steve, and two sisters Debra and Patricia.

I'm just beginning to do some family research for Mom and along with what you have already provided here would appreciate any more leads you might have about the Schneider side of the family. Thank you.

Debi,
Thanks for the advice. I looked for Louise's in ND 1930 census and found Louise Nenninger in Cass County -- right age, working as a servant. Her parents country of origin are listed as unknown, so I have only the age and the Nenninger connection in family papers to go on. She is listed as single rather than married or divorced, though. Another genealogical mystery.

Since John's 1930 census record shows him as widowed (Wd), I would first check for a death certificate for Johanna between 1920 and 1930 by contacting the North Dakota Dept of Health Division of Vital Records - http://www.vitalnd.com/. They will search their records and provide a certified copy for a nominal fee.

It is possible that Louise also died during that time period. A quick look at 1930 census records for women named Louise in Sheridan County turns up no Louise at 16 years of age or so. Or, if she did marry so young, she may have moved out of the area.

Good luck.

A short bio on Gottlieb Diede (Sr.??) is included in the "Sheridan County '89 - A Centenniel Project" book. For those who haven't seen it:

Gottlieb Diede

Gottlieb Diede and Pauline Enders were married in 1893. As newlyweds they left their homeland of Russia and arrived at New York on July 4, 1893.

Another important July 4th was the birthday of thier first child, Mrs. Sophie Freitz Derheim.

After spending 2 days in New York, they continued on to Sykeston, North Dakota, then the end of the Northern Pacific branchline. They spent the winter working on a farm. The following spring they settled on a homestead at Manfred, ND where they built their first homestead of sod.

Mr. Diede said his biggest challenge was the numerous rocks on his land which had to be cleared before he could break the land. Seeing all those rocks, he almost decided to go back to Russia. He said there you had to travel 125 miles to find enough rocks for wieghing down sauerkraut.

He lived on his homestead for 8 years the moved to Anamoose, where he operated a drag line for a year before moving to McClusky.

Two teams of oxen were used in farming operations. Grain was sown by the broadcast method while he carried their 2 year old on his back. His wife operated the harrow with a tem of oxen to complete the planting process.

The Diede's had 14 children. Mrs. Diede and 2 children died in an epidemic of cholera.

Mr. Diede has been a member of the Adventist Church for more than 60 years.

[based on the 1893 marriage date, it appears that this biography was written some time before the compilation of the Sheriday County '89 book - date uncertain - dlc]

I just thought that I would include within this thread some late breaking information as to this group's heritage.

I want to thank all of you that I have talked to and communicated with over this web-forum. It is amazing how well the internet can work for this kind of thing.

The GRHS and the GRHS Puget Sound section are in the process of publishing a book on Neuburg that appears to confirm a lot of the research that those who participated in this threat have uncovered. So that someone else surfing the web and finding this threat may learn as much as they wish. I am including the address of the latest GRHS information on the Schneiders from Neuburg Russia (Ukrane) to Goodrich N.D.

http://www.grhs.com/psound/news_jul2004.pdf

Thank you RootsWeb.com & Ancestry.Com for providing such a wonderful forum.

I was poking around in the Odessa files and thought I would look through some of the stuff I had not yet looked at. Well there was a 1914 Plat Map Index - Sheridan County ND (E. Bischoff) . at the following location.

http://pixel.cs.vt.edu/library/land/nodak/link/sherid14.txt

I decided to look for my Karl Schneider grandfather and his brother Christian. I then reflected on your last post about your Barreth (Berreth or Barret) connection and my aunt Rose and uncle Rudy. In looking at things geographically, I sort of wonder if aunt Rose wasn't the "girl next door" to uncle Rudy?

Berreth, Pauline 146N 74W 6,7

Schne(i)der, Karl 146N 74W 11
Schneider, Christ. 146N 75W 25
Schneider, Christian 148N 77W 28,29
Schneider, Henry 145N 76W 10

Berret, Fred 149N 76W 13,14,15
Not sure which surname is the correct one, but thought that you might be interested in this data source for your research.

I know my folks visited Rose and Rudy Barrett. My father was a Barreth (Berreth or Barrett, depending on who you are, probably one and the same.) We still have relatives in Canada also. I think Rose was a Schneider, am I right? I think my Dad was connected to Rudy maybe. I may have some of this wrong, would have to check mother's notes.

This is getting rather interesting. I was guessing that you were in Calif but maybe not. I have a picture of me with the buggy and Mom wrote on the back who it was with, I will check that. I don't know if my message last night went to Debi, it probably did via this site.

I apologize, I thought that you were Debbie Curry, whom I have shared information with in the past. Welcome to the clan!

If you would like to trace some of my journey of finding my relatives, you can check out the following website and follow the thread of interaction with others:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/schneider/messages/854.html

Interesting. I am 55 and when I visited Lodi we always visited my Dad's brother (Ray) and sister (Dienna sp?) down there as well as his mom. We never visited anyone who was suppose to be a "cousin" "aunt" or "uncle" of my dad. My grandfather died before I could remember visiting him. I don't remember any "buggy's" but I do remember my Dad's 1955 Buick.

I have an old family photo of when my dad was still in N. Dakota that shows the entire family with Karl and his wife. I would be happy to email it to your aol email address if you would like to see if the woman in the picture looks anything like the photo of the lady in the buggy. Again, if you want to have an email of the photo, let me know and I will send it to you as either a JPEG or PDF.

As to Montana, my dad's sister Rose, married Ruddy Barret (sp?) who had a very very large cattle and wheat ranch just ouside of Wolf Point Montana. I remember taking the train over there with my folks when I was a small boy and enjoying riding horses on the ranch. They had children, but I don't remember their names. That was the only Montana Relatives I visited or remember.

I will take time later to go into those sites. They sound interesting. Mother always told me they came from Germany, probably somewhere around Bremen. However, I will look at that.

I know the names Anton and Conrad. I wonder if one was in Montana, probably cousins or some such thing.

Also on the ship's passenger rolls, there was a hired man who came over too, and I can't remember his name right now. He was working for Granddad in Russia and came over . Incidentally, I also found a map of Neuberg which is right out of Odessa in the Black Sea delta. I guess that land was extremely fertile and rich and they did well.

I am thinking you and I have met, probably, I am 62, don't know your age. But we used to visit Lodi a lot and I have a picture of me and one of the aunts, either Karl or Henry's wife with me on a buggy. Conrad may have belonged to that family, but I am not sure.

I thought that since you added some information that I might add a little bit that I have stumbled upon recently. From what I can gather it appears that prior to being in Neuburg Russia, our common Schneider family clan came from Torschau, Hungary.

The following article has 3 interesting pages of overview and discussion at the beginning of the newsletter on the mass migration to what was then Hungary.
http://pixel.cs.vt.edu/library/newsletters/lieben/link/gdo12...

What is really interesting however, is the following villiage name index found on page 8 of 9, which has clues as to the "motherland."
http://pixel.cs.vt.edu/library/newsletters/lieben/link/gdo12...

I have to admit that I have not taken the time to study the above and figure out which Schneiders we are related to. If you figure that out, please let me know.

Thanks

Bob Schneider

After I posted the long message to this site (and I hope I am doing it right) I realized I should have justified the information.

Most of this information was obtained from the family bible. It was entered in Grandpa Christian's handwriting, however, it was done in a faded light blue ink which is not easily reproducible. But that is where the names and parentage were taken from. So, we can be pretty sure that is all correct. Also the birthdates, etc. What I found interesting is that they picked names and kept naming new babies until one lived to carry the name (i.e. three Berthas). I guess there weren't many names to choose from back then.

In 'Sheridan County 89 - A Centenniel Project', Herman Kahler [sic] has a short biography that says:

"Herman Kahler came to the Denhoff area in the early 1900's. He first homesteaded about 4 1/2 miles southeast of Denhoff. He worked for a time on the Davis Ranch, before settling down on his own piece of land 2 1/12 miles southeast of Denhoff.

In November, 1908, Herman married Mary Wellsch in Fergus Falls, Minn. For a few years after the marriage, Herman and Mary lived in a shop, while their house was built. The two oldest girls were born in this shoip. Herman farmed this land for about 30 years. He sold the land after his wife died in 1936. Herman died in 1966. The children born to this union are: Elizabeth Loher, Federal Way, Wash., Bertha Soderquist, Seattle, Wash., Kathryn Johnson (deceased), Josephine (Sister M. Felicitas) of Fargo, N.D., Mary Sauersessig, McClusky, N.D., Marian Bradley, Kent, Wash., Clara McKinnon, St. Ignace, Mich., and Cecelia Lande of Farmington Hills, Mich."

According to the 1910 census, the Kahler family were close neighbors to my husbands great grandparents, Joseph and Elizabeth Engel. Their daughters, Rose and Bertha, are on the top of the census page on which Herman, Mary, and their daughter, Elizabeth, appear. I am sending you (privately) three census images for this family: 1910, 1920, and 1930.

I am sorry, however, that I am unable to shed light on Herman's parentage. I hope the census and Sheridan Heritage information are helpful.

I am also a great grandson of Christian Schneider. I am interested in your family book. I've got Christian's naturalization petition and his death certificate. I also have the death certificate for his wife Elizabeth (who remarried and died as Elizabeth Martin) Christian's father was listed as "Fred" on the cert, but was probably anglicized from Freidrich. His mother's name was not listed, so I'm still looking for that. Elizabeth's dad was Gottlieb Schneider (kin to Christian?). Her mother was Christina Hertz. Any info you have would be appreciated.

PS - I, too, am interested in any further information that may be available in the Schneider family book. Is it available for purchase? Or small enough to copy (and copyright free?).

I am thinking that you have the bio of Christian that appears in the Sheridan County Heritage '89 centenniel book. If not, I do have the book and will be most happy to pass this along for anyone who is interested in this family.

Hi, my husband, Jon, is a descendant of Christian and Elizabeth Schneider. I have done some research on this family (and others) and show Christian's mother's name as Margarethe Fischer. This appears in copies of the Schneider family bible that I received from my sister-in-law, who attended a Schneider family reunion about 10 years ago. It is also found online in the Odessa library at Grossliebental Marriage Records, 184x (http://pixel.cs.vt.edu/library/stpete/gros/link/gros184m.txt; ). I do have additional information, so feel free to drop me a note privately. I will be away for the next couple of days, but will get back to you as soon as possible.

Schneider, who's father was also Christian Schneider.
I found out that some of the information that they have was from a search that one of the relatives did the LDS. They have some documentation, I'll have to find out what they exactly have.

If you would like, i could give you there #, they know quit a bit about the Schneider history, where the brothers and sisters went, who they married, and such.

I am sure they would love to visit.

From the Sheridan County Heritage '89 book, Page 70:

George Reiswig

In 1899 the George Reiswig family settled on a claim in the Lincoln Valley community. They erected a sod house and winter came before the windows were placed in the house.

Reiswig expanded his farming to ten quarter sections.

The town of Lincoln Valley was started by Reiswig's brother, C.C. Reiswig when the Great Northern was making plans to expand a line from New Rockford westward the Lincoln community. Reiswig sold a quarter section of land right of way.

Then came the war. Reiswig recalled and the railroad's extension plans fell trhough. George bought the land back form the railroad company for $15 and acre.

Mr. & Mrs. R.G. Reiswig lived on the fathers homestead for quite a time. Those remaining of the George Reiswig family are R.G. Reiswig, who now lives in McClusky. Ben, a resident at the Sheridan Memorial Home, George of Lodi, California who homesteaded near Lincoln Valley and farmed there for many years. The farm is now operated by Tilmer Reiswig.
I am interested in locating a copy of "Sheridan County Heritage '89 - A Centennial Project", a book which includes a biograpy and photos of some members of my husbands family. If anyone knows where I can inquire about this, I would appreciate it.

I have recently received my copy of "Sheridan County '89", which includes a bio on Philip Wentz, born in 1875 in Litchenfeld, South Russia and perhaps others (no index). Drop me a note about your family names/dates and I will check further for you and get back with you on my findings.

Dear Ila:
Many thanks for your helpful suggestions. Funny to see that you are looking for a Wilhelm Wagner as that is also my father-in-law's name. Gottlieb Wagner whom I am trying to find is his uncle. Hope you have success and who knows....maybe we will find we are connected to the same Wagner family. I have found that our Wagner family came from around Grossliebenthal and Rorhbach, Odessa, South Russia and I found them on the Odessa Digital Library. Keep in touch if I can be of any assistance in your search.
Thanks again for connecting with me.
Kerry

I am searching for the family of Violet Pearl (ARROWSMITH) LOFTUS, b:1897 in Bayard IA. She and other members of her family spent at least the years between 1915 - 1920 in the Goodrich area as that is where 3 of their (Violet & Charles LOFTUS) children were born; Howard, Leoan, and Loretta Loftus. Also, Violet's grandparents, John Wesley and Betsy Bell BOONE had photographs taken of them in Goodrich, as did her parents, Isaac Newton (or Newton Isaac) and Rose Margarette ARROWSMITH and her (Uncle?) Charles Arrowsmith. Any leads or clues to any of these people or their families would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Source: North Dakota Place Names by Douglas A Wick, copyright 1988, page 123

MAYNARD (McKenzie). Christopher J. Graue, a native of IA, became pm of the SANFORD postoffice on March 9, 1910, moving that facility to his home in SE1/4 Sec. 35-153-94, River View Twp., twenty-eight miles NE of Watford City. Because of confusion with Lansford, he changed the name to MAYNARD on August 25, 1910 to honor his son who farmed two miles to the NW in NW1/4 Sec. 22-153-94. Maynard Graue had been named for the family's ancestral home of Maynard, MA, which was named for Amory Maynard (1804-1890), a prominent textile manufacturer. Maynard is a Teutonic name meaning mighty brave. The post office closed March 31, 1913 with mail to Charlson.

Sorry but I don't have any information on the Dzialowski Surname.

Good luck with your ongoing research!

I was wondering if there was a county heritage document that maybe listed their parents and parent birthdates or family histories.

Karl and his wife left Goodrich and ended up in Lodi California.

Would appreciate any information.

I am researching family history. My Grandmother, Otilda Heisz Meckle, was born in Goodrich, Sheridan Co. 14 December,1903. Her parents were Johan(John) Heisz and Rose Reich. I am searching for relatives still living and for any information concerning the family and where they came from. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I just today found a ship manifest at ellisislandrecords.org, showing Jan DZIALOWSKI (my husband's g-great-uncle) coming through Ellis Island with his son, Mateusz. Jan is a citizen, and his 16-year-old son is not. They are headed it says for Minot (where his sister and her family lived), and also Maynard, which according to Mapquest is in Sheridan Co. Does anyone know of the town of Maynard (does it exist?), or of this DZIALOWSKI family? I would love to know if anyone knows if Mateusz married and had any children?

Thanks!

Have you tryed the Germans from Russia society on the Internet. He may have came from Russia and settled in North Dakota. I am also looking for a Wagner, Wilhelm who married Karoline Berg in either McLean or Sheridan Counties, after he came to the United States. One of my grandfathers brother, Jacob Fichtner also left North Dakota and settled in Canada. Several of the Germans from Russia did this. There have been several books written about this group and you may find help there.

Sheridan County

The McClusky Gazette, July 5, 1912 [Vol 8(43), p 1, col 6]

Trouble in Highland Tp.

Mrs. John Schulz, of Highland township west of Skogmo, came to town on Monday with her father and mother and asked for a warrant for her husband John Schulz, claiming that he had beaten her 14 times in the past six months and in many way abused her. John denied the allegations, each and every one.

He stated that according to his judgement Mrs. John had not trod the straight and narrow path before they were married, which was six months ago - in fact, he found after they were married that the dew had been brushed from the grape and that in his opinion Mrs. John had Cleopatra backed off the boards - but that he had never thrashed her for her early indiscretions. Mrs. John denied that she was unprudent while a maiden - a fact that caused many residents of that part of the county to state that she had missed a lot of fun.

John states that his wife's father had been intimate with his daughter before and after marriage, but the statement was indignantly denied by the old man and John's mother-in-law. After hearing the statements of both parties the States Attorney would have nothing to do with the matter and told all parties concerned to depart in peace. Mrs. John left with her father and mother and John departed for his fireless fireside companionless.

Hi
I am looking for any information on an Ackermann/Ackerman family from the Anamoose area.
Phillip(Felip) wife Elisabeth
children:
Magdalena(margrett1904
Katherine(Katie1905
Hulda(Hilda1907
Adres(Andrew1909
Gust
Anna(Annie

The children all left ND and so did Elisabeth around 1938. I am assuming this is when Phillip died. He was living in Anamoose when he was naturalized and when he received his homestead patent.

It is supposed they immigrated to ND from Russia in 1903 with other Ackermanns, possibly his parents. They were of German descent.
Does any one have access to the 1910 census? This is probably the info I need as well as when he died or could be buried.

Thank you for reading all this.

Looking for info on my great grandfather PHILIP GOEHRING married to KATHERINA MASHIAN. They homesteaded in Lincoln Valley and had several children of whom one was my grandfather also named PHILIP GOEHRING though he changed the spelling to GEHRING some time after 1924. Grandpa GEHRING married EMMA EBERHARDT in Goodrich in 1918. Can't seem to find out much except the kids names and that he moved to Minot in 1941 I believe. Trying to sort out the two Philips gets more confusing because there was a third Philip Gehring in the area and he dided a year after my grandfather. Can anyone help? All help of anykind would be greatly appreciated

Please email all responses to be at scarymar1@aol.com
By the way does anyone know where I can buy a Lincoln Valley reunion book? I understand there are a few books left but I have been unable to connect with the right person yet.

Thanks for any help.

Debi, The Thomas you listed is most likely the brother of Michael. Thier ( Thomas and Michael) father was Daniel b. abt 1832. The Ottilia I was speaking of is definetly the daughter of Michael and Elisabeth Brachsmeir as I have her SS application. Is there any mention in the Sheridan County book about Daniel( above)? Daniel may have been married to a Margaretha or Magdalena., last name unknown. Elinor
