Red Butte area, Oliver County ND

My grandparents homesteaded in the Red Butte area south east of Hazen ND. I was wondering if any one knew anything about the August and Wilhemina Reich family, or Otto and Bertha Reich? My dad, Delvin Reich went to school at Red Butte school and I would love to see photos or see pictures of the area. Thanks so much

I know of a school in the area called the Hammel School. My grandfather attended it in the early 1900's. It was near Hannover (an unincorporated area west of Center). I have an image from I would guess circa 1908. My grandfater is pictured in it and looks to be around 10-12 year old. Mrs. Bigelow is not named in the picture. Others named in picture: Kargas, Albers, Hammel, Flint, Rabe, Henke, Hintz, Bornemann, Krauth, Plenge, Wolff, Breimeier, Maier

Does anyone have information about a 1-room schoolhouse, all 8 grades, in the area of Center, ND? This would have been around 1923-1925. My mother, named above, was the teacher, and I'd love to have any information that could be provided, or if someone has an old photograph. Thank you very much.

Russia. Children born in ND were: Andrew/Andreas, Pauline,
Helmet/Gilmuth, Albert, Walter, Hulda, and Bertha.
Christian was the son of George Bauer and Elisabeth Bittner
from South Russia.
Would like to learn more about Christian and his children.
Elisabeth was a sister to my great grandmother.

Olivers transported to American Colonies

Anyone researching Oliver Englishmen from 1614 to 1775 I have a list of passengers transported to the American Colonies.It also tells where they were shipped to .
Evidently these 50,000( not all Olivers) Englishmen were undesireables.

Sarah Heskett and her son Lawrence both died in 1914 and are buried in Community Cemetery in Oliver County, ND. If you would like the URL, let me know.

Ambrose, Harry, and Harold Heskett are found on the 1920 census of Marion County, Illinois. The website below says that Ambrose died there in 1925. One confusing fact on the 1920 census is that Ambrose supposedly was divorved, although Sarah had died in 1914.

I found a marriage record for Ambrose and Sarah Sleven in Brown County, Indiana. They were married 22 June 1879. They are also on the census record of Brown County, Indiana, in 1880. They have a daughter Nellie who is 11 mos.

His parents were Levi and Elizabeth Poulton Heskett.

Heskett Family 1900-1920

My gr. grandfather was Harry Lea Heskett who lived in Oliver Co. while growing up. He managed a pool hall in 1917 in precinct 7, Center as stated on his WW1 draft registration. I know he was also an operator of a ferry at some point and was known for bootlegging and getting into trouble. In 1917 he had a wife and child. In the 1910 census he was living in township 143 with his parents Ambrose and Sarah Heskett. His siblings were Fila, Lina, Larry, William, Clarence, and Harold. I know one of the sisters was a teacher on a nearby reservation. Any information about the Hesketts listed here would be appreciated ! rashelbraun@aol.com

The book is based on research of all Olivers during the time when Hugh and Margaret OLiver were trying to find the ancestors of Hugh's gggrandfathers family .They searched the early history of the United States researching census , deeds, etc looking for Olivers and trying to make a connection to Hughs family , it is 572 pages of Olivers .Census records from 1790-1850 , for Virginia, Tennessee, NO. Carolina, So. Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama ....

I am looking for descendents of MARTIN AND FLORENCE MYERS. I do not know Florence's maiden name, but their children were Lawrence, Howard, Gordon, Violet, Mae, Clarence and Etta. I an the granddaughter of Martin's sister, Cora Myers Bigelow, and would like to find cousins who are interested in sharing family information. Martin Myers was born approx. 1878 in Indiana, but the family migrated to North Dakota and remained there for quite some time. Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

Marcy, I've been browsing through Oliver County messages, and just came across your offer to send scanned copies of the Oliver County Centennial booklet. I realize that is an old post, but are you still willing to do so? My grandparents were Arthur and Cora Bigelow, arriving about 1900. Could you check and see if they're mentioned in there? I'd certainly appreciate anything you could come up with.

Hi Colleen, just saw your message regarding Arvid Otnes.
I have his birthday October 12, 1899 and a picture of him as a young man. The only proof it is him is that his name is written on the back in nice handwriting (not mine). It was taken in a flat area with no trees.

Hotchkiss is a name associated with Sanger, ND.
All of the Hotchkiss deceased are according to Oliver County records as buried in the Sanger Cemetery.

Hotchkiss #`1 born 04-29-1930 died 04-29-1930
Hotchkiss, Maybelle 01 month died 03-21-1922
Hotchkiss, Samuel 06 da died 11-20-1934

There are a couple of families that remember the Hotchkiss family.

I am interested in what booklet you have? Oliver County has a large History Book put out in 1885 and a supplement that put out in 2000. I do not know of any 1985 editions available but you could purchase a supplement by contacting Bernice Borneman at 107 Butte Ave. or Barb Flemming, Oliver County Auditor at Center,ND, 58530

Maybe someone here can find an obituary for either Edna or Lawrence for you?

Searching for Maria Wrolstad...don't know married name. She lived in Oliver in the 1930's (parents farmed) and may have moved to the Fargo area in the late 40's. Other family members: Nela, Ragna, Melvin, Roy, Obert, Stella, Elmer, Dora, Orvil, and Chester.

Guenthners from Russia to Dakota

Does anybody have any information on these Guenthners? They were originally from Russia and came to US (Dakota Territory) in 1893. Seemed to have settled in Oliver County.
Matthias (1860-?) and Katherine Bauer (1869-?)
Their Children were:
Matthias (1890-1819) my g-grandfather, Margaret, Theophil, Amalia, Freida, Henrietta, Rosania, Lena, Louise, Adelheid, Fred, and John.
Please let me know if you have any of these names in your family tree.
There are other Guenthers that lived close by. They are all probably related, but I have been unable to link them.
