Hi Bev,

I know I haven't corresponded with you in some time. Lots of things got away from me as I tried to navigage through my family tree. I have some info you could probably pull down from Ancestry.com looking at "Jim & Diane Marxen Family Tree 2009". Already it's getting out-of-date.

A couple of years ago, you said that you had some Zwirn photos. I posted photos of Pauline, Frederika, and Caroline to Ancestry - and some of the Cassens family as well.

I tried you email, but it was kicked back. You can email me at jrmarxe@hotmail.com

Jim Marxen
I am looking for information on Hannah Berg. I do not know if that is her married name or her maiden name. I found a picture of her in a book on Edgley, La Moure County, North Dakota. But I am no longer in a place where I can look up what information might be in that book.

I am hoping that someone can tell me about her. I first found a family picture of this woman. It says "her sister, Hanna" on the back. Then I saw a picture of her on a page that I had copied from the Edgeley book.

I am hoping to find out more about her to see if she can lead me to their home in Norway and to their parents.

I would be glad to take pictures for you. The only thing is: I don't know when we will be going to ND for sure. I have family buried in Kulm. I do have relatives living by there and maybe I can get one of them to go take pictures in the spring or summer. Also my father worked for Janke's and my grandparents lived on the Janke place. Interesting! This post was a long time ago so if you already have the photos just let me know!

I am researching the Peter and Johanna (Olson) family; Peter died about 1896 in Dickey or La Moure County. They came to the U. S. from Norway.

Johanna (or Johanne) homestead in Dickey County, May 8, 1901. She was the head of the household in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. In the 1920 census, he son, Simon, was the head of the household.

Peter and Johanna had six children as indicated on the census, but only four survived. Tora M. Berg, b. June 1888; Simon A. Berg, b. January 1891; Palmer J. Berg, b. December 1892; and Nellie O. Berg, b. December 26, 1895.

Johanna's maiden name was Olson.

Simon and Palmer never married; they homesteaded in Powder River County, Montana about 1913.

Nellie married Arthur Abbott in Dickey County, North Dakota; and later moved to their homestead in Custer and Powder River Counties, Montana.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Jefferson Smith, in La Moure Co bef 1880

Looking for info on Jefferson Smith, who is one of the twenty names on the single-page 1880 Census for La Moure Co. The Census indicates he is married, but no family members are listed.

1900 Census, Grand Rapids, family 37: he is listed as Jeff Smith, age 73, widowed, in the household of Daniel & Carry Parshall - Carry (Carrie) is his daughter.

Jefferson Smith's wife was Lydia, and he also had daughters Josephine/Josie, b. abt 1853, and Gertrude, b. abt 1849.

Daniel & Carrie Parshall had moved on to Cache, Comanche, OK by the 1910 Census, and Jefferson Smith in no longer with them, so I assume he died in La Moure Co.

Particularly interested in identifying the maiden name of wife Lydia and what happened to daughter Gertrude. Gertrude is apparently a step-daughter of Jefferson Smith, as her name was originally Gertrude Slater (1860 Census, Kalamazoo Co, MI).

Anyone know more about the 1880 Census for the county? There are 15 heads of households, but only two have any other family members enumerated. Does that mean all of those other heads of household were really unaccompanied, or were the family members present in the county but just not enumerated??

I don't know if you've gotten any information on the May Family. Here's the limited info I know: John Albert's daughter, Edith A. May was born at Fargo, ND on November 17, 1884. She married DeWitt Clinton Rand (I'm researching the Rand's) on June 30, 1905. They ended up settling in Jamestown, ND. Rand was a successful businessman. The first Ford Motor Co. dealer in ND, as well as a bank president for The Citizens National Bank of Jamestown. They had three children that I know of. Lorraine May Rand b. Nov 21, 1909,
Genevieve Joyce Rand b. May 30, 1911, & Justine Roberta Rand b. May 16, 1914. This info came from the History of North Dakota, by Lewis Crawford (Vol 3., pg 55-56)
I hope this helps

Could he have come by himself to check it out and then the rest of the family came later? Where were they living before they came to North Dakota?

Email me at patrice at ndsupernet dot com for more information on this family.

My Great, Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Smith Proctor. She was first married to Edward Alexandrew Smith in ILL. He died in 1863. At the time Edward and Elizabeth Smith had two children. Walter Edward Smith and Mary Jane Smith. Mary Jane was my great grandmother. I have found some info on the family but do not have first hand info. I got some info from the LaMoure Historical Society regarding the Proctors. Not sure about the Proctor family except what I have received from them and found via Ancestry.com. I would love to have any info or pictures of the family that you have. I will share some info I received too. I think we wrote back sometime ago. But I didn't have much info at that time. My Dad's uncle, John Janke settled in Kulm about 1908, along with his wife, Lydia Konrad they raised their family in Kulm. John & Lydia as well as most of their family are buried in Kulm. Am doing Family Research on the Janke family however live in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada so am a long way from the scene. Am willing to pay a fair price for this. Collecting Tombstone Photos seems sort of a morbid hobby. Would be glad to hear from anyone that knew this family in Kulm.

Neither Clara or Mayme (Mamie) were married at the time. I also have copies of other photos of Mayme Proctor - with her sister Nettie (Jeanette) Proctor Franks, friends from Marcus, Cherokee Co. Iowa; also have picture of her father George W. Proctor, brother of Willard (LaMoure ND).

Do you have pictures of Willard's and Elizabeth's children, grandchildren, etc?

Do you have information on their children, grandchildren, and suceeding generations?
