Researching Valentine Schreck whom served in 2nd New York Light Artillery Battery in the civil war. He later married a lady named Alice and requested Land grant from Bismark, ND 1883. He noted he had two children but cannot find Val & Alice with any children. They later removed to Snohomish Co. Washington where both died. Would like to have any information on this family and would gladly share what I have.

I located this family in the 1860 census. They are under Batis Robinson at Clear Lake, Sherburne, Minnesota. I was looking for a connection to Eliza Robidou Bellmore in Wilkin County, Minnesota. With the other information I have, I am saying she is part of this family.

Hi I am not related to this family. I am working on a history of the people buried in Kent, Minnesota and that is where Joseph Robidou is buried. I learned quite a bit about them from the obits. I grew up at Kent, so know quite a few people there. Of course, Joseph Robidou died before I was born, and I guess I am actually related to some of his descendants.

Hello :)

It's been quite a while since I last worked on the LaFramboise family and haven't looked at those files recently, but yes, I believe I did locate his obit in the Bismarck Tribune (or one of the other papers of that time) while searching archived newspapers. As a matter of fact I know I did find one for his father as well.
Are you related to Robidou family?

This may or may not help you. I always use the following url to look up where ancestors started: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp?

This is the Bureau of Land Management and they have a good website that lets you find the legal description of any patent. Just now I popped in the surname Ansorge for Burleagh County and found nothing, so you will have to fish a bit. I also tried Hughes but didn't see anything for that county. Bismark was a parent county but I saw no Hughes entry for that old county name either. Of course I do not know given names so you should look for yourself.

If they failed to "prove up" did the record every go into effect? I don't know the answer to that.

Good Hunting.

While she is a little frail in body, her mind is still very sharp. If you would like to contact her, let me know. ---- David E. Farnsworth, Bismarck, ND

The 100th year anniversary book of Bismarck, printed in 1972, includes a little about this Conrad family: (paraphrasing)

E. J. Conrad came to Mandan in 1908 to work for the Mandan Pioneer newspaper, and in 1921 moved to Bismarck and established the Bismarck Capital. In 1928 it became a semi-weekly paper and in 1932 the Shopper began publication. The Conrad Publishing Company (in the 1972 book entry) is managed by his three sons, John, Charles and Currie, while grandson Roan Conrad is managing editor of the Morning Pioneer.

I found an article about the automobile crash in the August 17, 1921, Bismarck, North Dakota newspaper, The Bismarck Tribune. Alice Gertrude RAFFERTY, age 26, was thought to have died instantly when the car she was riding in overturned. There were a number of articles because the man driving the car had been arrested for driving drunk.

In it, it says: "Mrs. Rafferty, the dead woman, had a husband and one child. Her husband is a blind man. They had been living on Front street and it is understood were preparing to move to Mandan."

An article the following day, August 18, 1921, states she had not lived with her husband for some time.

It seems, then, that RAFFERTY was this woman's married name, not her maiden name. Is this the person you are seeking? I do find an Alice Rafferty, age 25, listed as married, living with her mother Ellen PERRY in Bismarck, ND, in 1920. This Alice was born in Canada. I don't find anyone who might be her blind husband (assuming the newspaper articles are correct).

Do you have more information on her (especially birth place and date) or her child which might help in the search for the child?

Beth

We believe she had a child out of wedlock, earlier that year. Due to the distance, I would appreciate any help in obtaining newspaper articles about the accident, and/or obituary.
The Bismarck Daily Tribune had many articles about John "Jack" W. TRUSTY, found on the site www.newspaperarchive.com . On Oct. 3, 1905, I find an article concerning and inquest on his death, following an illness of several years. He was 46 years old, sentenced for murder in the second degree (one article said he was defending his wife's honor) north of Billings county in 1899. At the time of the murder, he had a wife and several children, but his wife obtained a divorce shortly after his sentencing. She was remarried by the time of the October 3rd, 1905 article.

I looked through the other articles and don't find any other identifying information.

Beth

The records for prisoners at the ND Penitentiary are not available to the public to view. But you maybe able to get selected copies of the records by contacting Cathy C. Jensen at the ND Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation. P.O. Box 5521, Bismarck, ND 58506-5521. Ph. 701-328-6122. If he died in prison they might have some information about that. Otherwise you can check the Burleigh County Cemetery book and search the newspaper for an obituary. If you have questions about this contact me at patrice at ndsupernet.com.
Hi Terry,

The subscription website www.newspaperarchive.com has over 200 Bismarck, ND, articles containing "Frank Paris", including many which aren't part of the Ancestry.com newspaper database.

If this is your direct line you may want to subscribe to the website, as I found several marriage articles and obits. Frank Paris' mother's obit was printed in January of 1930.

------------------------------------
Bismarck Tribune, June 2, 1933 front page

(paraphrased) difficult to read:

FRANK PARIS, 77, farmer in Burleigh County died about 3:30 [might say 5:30] Friday morning at his home in Bismarck at 404 Fifth Street. He had been ill three years of heart and kidney ailments.

Mr. Paris was born April 13, 1860 at Pulteney [spelling? difficult to read], New York and came to the middle west in 188? [might say 1882], living first in Minnesota for three years before coming to ND.

He married Mrs. E?da Co?en Nov. 1, 1892 [?] on a farm 12 miles north of Bismarck. He came to Burleigh county in 1884, being employed on Oscar Ward's dairy farm, and filed on a homestead the same year 10 miles north of the Capital City. He operated a dairy farm eight miles north of the city where he lived for 41 years. He retired three years ago and moved to Bismarck.

He leaves his widow seven children and four grandchildren. Children, all of Bismarck: [difficult to read, best guess on the names] Floyd Paris, Mrs. Paul A. ?/lerence?? Cook, Mrs. Henry A??? M? Hanson Hazel Paris, Robert Paris, Ad?? Paris, and ?? Paris. Miss ??deen? Paris is employed... Grand Forks......
---------------------------------------

I can't read where the funeral took place. You may be able to decipher more of the article if you are familiar with the names.

Looking for any info on my great grandfather, Richard H. Baker and his brother, John Lewis Baker. The brothers were born in Orange County, Indiana. They both married their wives in Sangamon County, Illinois. Richard to Margaret Kern and John to Sarah Burton. The brothers moved their families to Burleigh County some time before 1900. According to family lore, Richard was last seen boarding a train about 1902-1905. John died in 1920. Richard was the father of Lillie, James, Albert, Rchard, Myrtle and Earl. John was the father of Geneva, James, Benjamin, Mary, Leroy, John and Ester.

Carlyle Goodrich, Photographer

Carlyle Goodrich was a photographer who moved to Bismarck, Burleigh County, North Dakota around 1882 from Plainfield, Vermont. In Plainfield he had made many stereo views of his neighbors' and customers' homes from 1877 to 1881, after which he removed to Bismarck. He later returned to Vermont, where he died in 1911. I have no further information, but the Vermont Historical Society has a collection of his photographs.

I'm trying to find a past Judge in Bismarck with the last name of Peterson who was originally a lawyer in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. After the death of this man's wife and child (both died in childbirth) he moved to Bismarck and became a judge. Although he never remarried, he did live with a woman in his later years. Edward, Alice and Hazel Ellingson would stop in and visit him every time they made their trips between Montana and Minnesota.

This unknown judge's father is August Peterson b. 15 Mar 1858 in Ljuder, Kronoberg, Småland, Sweden. He probably died about 1940 in Ramsey Co., MN.

August was the son of Carl Petersson and Sophia Johanssdotter and was one of five chlidren:
Emma b. unknown, Ljuder m. Unknown Johnson in MN
Frank b. abt 1860, Ljuder m. Eva Nelson d. abt 1940 Goodhue Co., MN
Amanda Sophia b. 18 Jun 1865, Ljuder m. Peter Ellingson d. 12 Oct 1936, Goodhue Co., MN
Hilda b. Apr 1875, Ljuder m. Warren W.
