The wife of Lindsay Perdue was Permelia Perdue, daughter of James Perdue b.1783 in MD and his first wife, Mary Polly (widow of Joseph Howard) maiden name unknown. Lindsay and Permelia were cousins.

Mitochondrial DNA testing shows Permelia Perdue was Haplogroup J2a1a1a. (My direct maternal line, through their daughter, Frances Elizabeth Perdue.)

I have no additional information on Lindsay.
Eaves Family National Association Reunion 2013

EAVES FAMILY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION

REUNION 2013

Are you interested in your EAVES heritage? Are you at a brick wall in your research? Would you like help in your research. If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then YOU need to make plans to attend the Annual EAVES Family National Association Reunion. One is being held in the Irmo, South Carolina area.

SO make plans to attend. The EFNA has been in existence since

"In 1978, in his quest to find out more about his Eaves line, Dr. Robert (Bob) Wendell Eaves Sr., of Washington, DC, (born in Rutherford County, NC) became acquainted with Curtis and Gladys Jacobs of Fields, LA. In 1976 Bob Eaves had organized a successful reunion in Spindale, NC. Descendents of his great-great grandfather, Andrew Eaves attended. After much correspondence between the Jacobs and Bob Eaves, Bob started to plan a reunion in Spindale, NC in the summer of 1979 and invite as many Eaves and Eaves descendents as he and the Jacobs could contact. Spindale was selected because of the vast majority of Eaves contacted were descendents of Graves Eaves II, who came from Brunswick County, Virginia and settled in Rutherford County, NC in 1775.

Unfortunately Bob Eaves Sr passed away in January 1979 before he could fulfill his dream of a reunion for the descendents of Graves Eaves II. Although he could not get the reunion back on track for 1979 Bob Eaves Jr., (son of Bob Eaves Sr.,) of Atlanta, GA after meeting with the Jacobs, organized what was to be the first nationwide Eaves Family reunion. The first reunion was held at the Isothermal Community College in Spindale, NC. At one time Andrew Eaves (mentioned above) owned land at the community called “Frog Level” and it is believed that part of the college campus is on that property.

Besides notifying everyone on Dr. Bob’s list and the Jacob’s list, Bob Jr., sent notices to 97 newspapers mostly in the Sunbelt states. A terrific response was received from these announcements and approximately 150 “cousins” showed up with 127 signing the register for the first reunion on June 22, 1980. Fourteen states (NC, SC, GA, FL, MD, OK, CA, TN, KY, MS, NY, AL, AR, and IL) were represented at the reunion.

SO, if you are an Eaves, married an Eaves or have Eaves somewhere in your family tree, please make plans to attend the Eaves Family National Association (EFNA) Reunion to be held August 2 – 4, 2013 in Irmo, South Carolina at the Wingate Hotel See information below:

WHEN: August 2 – 4, 2013

WHERE: Wingate Hotel
217 Lanneau Court – Harbison Blvd
Columbia, SC
803-407-6166
800-826-5570
http://www.columbiawi.com/location.aspx

RATES $79.00 per night plus taxes (TELL THEN YOU ARE WITH
the Eaves Reunion to get this rate)

HOSTS: Don & Courtney Eaves - phone (704) 519-8842
email address- eldereaves@yahoo.com

FRIDAY NIGHT – Meet & Greet social time - dinner on your own
Several restaurants nearby.
Monterey Mexican which is right beside
the hotel.
Probably will confuse further but a "step" daughter or son was referred to as an "in-law" as well. Thus I've found my grandmother listed as daughter to her widowed stepmother and the stepmother's stepson by another marriage as her son-in-law. Census takers discretion, apparently.
Hi again Robyn, I am related to a descendant of Edward Hugh Barron who was one of the first people to settle in Western Australia in 1829. Thomas Creighton Johnson Born Abt 1832 to Thomas Johnson & Janet Creighton, emigrated to Australia abt 1863 and Married an Irish girl Called Mary Gallagher, in Victoria. They moved to Sydney New South Wales and had two children there. Thomas Creighton Johnson, in 1874 and Kate Johnson in 1878. I know nothing more of their movements until Thomas senior dies in Victoria in 1880. At some time, & I suspect abt 1910 Thomas Jr appears as a farm laborer in rural western Australia. He marries Elizabeth Barron, A Great Grand daughter of Edward Hugh Barron. Between 1923 & 1938 They have 8 Children two of whom are Stillborn. Thomas dies six weeks before his final child is born, Colin Thomas Johnson. Problem is, I have no idea where. Their father may have been named Owen (not sure) and their mother was Polly Young. Based on the brother's ages, the father (?Owen) would have been born prior to 1790. Any help you provide would be most appreciated. Thank you,

Mark Hill

Hi Faye,

I don't know much about Samuel, as James is the one that my line came through. My family books don't show a date for Samuel's birth. Stewart was b. ca 1778 in NC; Sarah was b. 1780 in NC; James was b. 1782 in NC; Thomas was b 11785 in KY; Deborah was b. 1787 in KY; William was b. 1790 in KY; John was b. 1794-1802, Benjamin was b. 1794-1802; and there is no date for Samuel and I am not sure of Alexander. James, Stewart, and William are all on the 1812 census of Warren County, TN and all three moved to Madison Co., AR about 1831. Stewart m. Patsy English in Pulaski Co., KY on 03-28-1800. They had a daughter, Clarissa. I would not be surprised at all to find that your Samuel was one of the brothers, but I have no proof. If you find proof of this, let me know. I have been trying to find parents of these Clark siblings for awhile now. Thanks for any and all help!

I have a Samuel Clark b. 1770-1775 NC who ended up in Wayne County, KY. Descendants of a Benjamin Clark may have ended up in neighboring Russell County, KY. These counties border TN. The names James, John, Samuel, William, Thomas & Jesse figure prominently in my line. Also have an oral tradition that the first Clark was a Scotsman who married an Indian in NC. Think my Samuel could be one of your brothers?

Arleen, I would be very interested in anything you have of the family of Sarah Holt. I am descended from Sarah through Brantly Honeycutt.

I'm also having trouble verifying the parentage of Bartlett/Bartley Honeycutt. I see that many people on the web identify his father as Robert Hunnicutt, but I've seen no actual records that support that and don't know what the origin of that claim is. If you have any information that can clear that up I'd love to hear it.

My e-mail is charliex1969@yahoo.com.

If you know where he was living, you might want to check the County records, depending on where he was living, there might be some record of a name change, or even a marriage for his parents/step-parents. Of course, some Counties have lost early records, due to courthouse fires, and the like, but it is always worth seeing what is available for each location.

Deloris

In almost any time period, the woman would keep her married name until she remarried. The child would always carry the surname of the mother, so if she was married when the child was born, the child would have her husband's surname. There have been cases where for whatever reason, a mother remarried shortly after the death of her husband, and at times, the new husband may have adopted some of her children and they would carry his surname. If that happened, there was usually some record of that, most likely in a court record.

Deloris

She was the only child to survive the raid ( no one knows what happened to her sister who was never found). In some of the records I have found Lydia is listed as having married Andrew Hunter and she is also listed as having married a Mr. Boggs and Mr. Rose.

From her burial notice there is no mention of Messrs.
Hello, if your parents came from Scurry, they were right in the center of the area where a lot of Boles/Bowles descendants still live. Most of them located there used the "Boles" spelling. (We find both spellings all the way through the lines.) We'd really welcome your joining us on the Bowles list, to tell us what you know and what you'd like to know. Many of us there have the same history...being descended from Chief Bowles, but having no documentation to prove it. Since so much Indian history is oral history, we may never find the documents we wish we had. I think our best chance is via DNA tests, but they're still pretty expensive.
Yours with best wishes,
Linne Bowles Gravestock

Leo, I just stumbled onto your posting about reading the true account of Chief Bowles. I've been reading about him for years and would like to know what you've read that I may not know about. According to my great-grandmother, we're descended from Chief Bowles. I can track back only to KY. I helped set up the Bowles list, and we have quite a few members who are searching for their Bowles ancestors in North Carolina. You say that you're looking for the Chief's white ancestral family in North Carolina. Any clues? Maybe we can help you.
With best wishes,
Linne Bowles Gravestock

thanks Linda----I am not a good record keeper and often loose what record I do make.

I have been in contact with Guy Higgins of Ohio William Higgins who he knows came from North Carolina. This William had a son Nathan who also was born in N.C. We are trying to find a male Higgins in N.C. as a DNA candidate to see if he matches Guy's Ohio Higgins. In the meantime this revived interest (I go from one to another, don't you?)impels me to seek out others who post "William Higgins." Maybe we can exchange? What do you have on William. I can send you my material easily as it is on FTM if you want to get involved. Maybe we can find something new in each other's knowledge?

My relation to the Higgins---my great grandfather, Lemuel Hoyle, married Emma Higgins, a daughter of Alburto Squire Higgins in Burke or McDowell County, N.C.

Marshall Ramsey mrcharlieramsey@gmail.com

Marshall,

I don't think we have communicated-but my memory is not 100%. I did exchange an email with a man that may have been from England or at least knew something about NC Higgins. I wish I could find that email, but my computer crashed last May and I may not have recovered that info.

I have one little tiny bit of information that said my line came from a William Higgins in NC who moved to Ohio in the early 1800's. Does that match anything you have? The fellow (maybe from England) said that a certain DNA would confirm that information.

Anyway, I hope to hear from you again,
Linda

Thank you for responding. I have searched in New Hanover Co NC for the surnames of the wives in the 1800, 1810, and 1820 censuses. Both of the wives' births just show they were born in Hanover Cty. Not having found such a place I did try other variations.

Regards, Bettye

I've noted that Cty often appears in older documents as an abbreviation for "county", but is then sometimes interpreted by genealogists to mean "city." Could your record have originally been "Hanover Cty", meaning either New Hanover County (NC) or Hanover County (Virginia)?

I did a parent search using the names Thad Butler and Mary Smith on Family Search and this record appeared:
name:	Eliza Mcwilliams
death date: 16 Dec 1918
death place: Enfield, Halifax, North Carolina
gender: Female
race (original): Colored
age at death: 28y
estimated birth year: 1890
birthplace: Scotland Neck, North Carolina
marital status: Married
spouse:	Austin Mcwilliams
father: Thad Butler
father's birthplace: Scotland Neck, North Carolina
mother:	Mary Smith
mother's birthplace: Scotland Neck, North Carolina
cemetery: Mary'S Chapel
burial date: 17 Dec 1918
"North Carolina, Deaths, 1906-1930," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F3DV-JMH : accessed 12 Jan 2013), Thad Butler in entry for Eliza Mcwilliams, 16 Dec 1918.

There also is a Thad Butler born Scotland Neck in 1888 who appears with his grandfather in the 1900 US census:
Name:	Thad Butler
Age:	12
Birth Date:	Apr 1888
Birthplace:	North Carolina
Home in 1900:	Scotland Neck, Halifax, North Carolina
[Halifax]
Race:	Black
Gender:	Male
Relation to Head of House: Grandson
Marital Status:	Single
Father's Birthplace:	North Carolina
Mother's Birthplace:	North Carolina
Household Members:
Name	Age
Edward Arrington	57
Thad Butler	12

Thad Butler also shows up in later census records, and in draft records for WWI and WWII.
Name:	Thaddeus Henry Butler
Service Info.:	PVT US ARMY WORLD WAR I
Birth Date:	20 Dec 1887
Death Date:	6 Aug 1968
Service Start Date:	2 Aug 1918
Interment Date:	12 Aug 1968
Cemetery: Long Island National Cemetery
Cemetery Address: 2040 Wellwood Avenue Farmingdale, NY Buried At:	Section 2x Site 2162

In 1942, he was working at Askins Stores, 461 8th Avenue in New York, and was living at 215 West 123 Street in New York.
In the 1920 census, he appears with wife Virgie born about 1891 in the District of Columbia.

If your Mary Smith did indeed marry a Thad Butler (I couldn't find such a marriage on FamilySearch), possibly further investigation of these records might help you find Mary.
