When I use the surname
HIGHFILL it might actually be
HIGHFIELD. I'm looking for any information that will tell me who the first
HIGHFILL to settle in
America was. I'm very interested in the father of
Bennet(t) HIGHFIELD/HIGHFILL.
The HIGHFILL's may have landed at Jamestown,
Virginia between 1705-1710 and then went overland to
North Carolina. In the records of
Craven County, NC, Vol 1 the first record of
HIGHFILL shows up as: Temperance
HIGHFILL who married
Issac Anderson, August 27, 1787. It appears that there were two clans of HIGHFILL's, one living in
North Carolina, and another living in
South Carolina. It would appear that both clans originated with a common ancestor, who was probably living in
Craven County, NC. This ancestor fathered two sons, Hezekiah
HIGHFILL, who remained in
North Carolina, and
Bennett HIGHFILL who moved to
South Carolina.
Most of the information and data on the HIGHFILL's was taken from a book "Roberts-Allen Families and related families Davis-Highfill-Rogers" by
Merritt E. Roberts, published by
Olive Press Publications, c1985. xi, 540p.: ill.; 24cm. LC CALL NUMBER: CS71.R64 1985. It appears that the HIGHFILL's came to
America from
Heidelberg, Germany, and other areas located in the vicinity near the
Rhine River.
