hello- i have a copy of a marriage application dated december 1860. this marriage states that one thousand dollars will be paid to the state of
north carolina. i do not understand this. the copy states that "W>D
Royal hath made application for a license of marriage to celebrate between him and E.J. Groce.of the county aforesaid [yadkin].
the next statement is; "Now in case it shall not appear that there is any lawful cause or impediment to obstruct said marriage, then the above obligation to be void---other wise to remain in full force and virtue".
this document was signed by w.d. royal and wm. Royal.
attested by;J.G. Jr--oilary[cannot read last name here]
Is there any one out there that has a clue to the meaning of this document or know any thing about the people involved? Wiley D

Groce are parents of my grandmother Martha Jane
Royal.
