I have papers from Wilkes County from the 18th Century. There are deeds paid with schillings. The most prominent names in them are Mitchell and Welborne.
I went to Wilkesboro to offer to let anyone see these some years ago but no one was interested. I still feel someone may have relatives still in Wilkes Co. who would be especially interested in the pictures--some as children.
There are tintypes of the Mitchell family. For instance, on the first picture is written Moses Frank Mitchell and Fannie J. Mitchell, parents of Gertrude Mitchell. Some other names are Rome Mitchell, Rev. Gwaltney and Rev. Billy Meyers; Uncle Jack (?) Lunsford and Andrew Mitchell; Lugenia Mitchell; Fannie Jarvis Mitchell, sister and mother of Gertrude Mitchell; Andrew Mitchell, "Uncle" R. (?) Jarvis, Tom Jarris (brother of Fannie Mitchell, uncle of Gertrude);
John Gaither, W. Ed Harris, Robert N. Garner, Rome Mitchell, Alice Roberts; C. C. Wright, Andrew Mitchell, Clint Jarvis, (?) Reason Bell; Andrew Goforth; Jim Mitchell, brother of Frank; Roxie Garner; Group at Shady Grove Church, circa 1898.
