Rick,
I descend from a William Johnson, who is the possible William Johnson that once lived on Mark's Creek. He died in 1805 in Johnston County. He was referred to as William Johnson of Wake County when he bought land in Johnston County in 1784. Dna testing has proved this William was not related to President Andrew Johnson or the Sill Johnson line. He was not of the Isle of Wight line Johnsons either though his wife Mildred Johnson was. William's son Noel Johnson is my ggg grandfather. He had a son named Aaron.
Thanks
Ernest Johnson

My biological father was William Charles Horton (or Charles William) and he used one assumed name I know of that is William Earl Rogers. William was remarried in 1908 and their daughters (Mary and Mildred) are shown to be living in an orphanage in the 1910 census. I cannot find any information on her after 1900 so I don't know if she died or they divorced. Her maiden name may be Griffis.

I read William Jackson's war record today and the way I read it is that William was born abt 1750 served 2 years his first enlistment and 1 year his last enlistment. He died June 11, 1840. Sarah said they were married in the Spring of 1779 seems that she must been about 19 years old when she married. Rebecca Ellis was with her sister when Low was born seems that he was born about 1880 and if I am reading this correctly then this Lowe Jackson would not be Lowe but I believe he must have been related. This Lowe was still in North Carolina in 1842 mine was in Illinois at that time died in Illinois in 1850. Thanks Michael

On a William Jackson's Revolutionary record, there is a son mentioned by the name of Low Jackson. It said he had several children. This William Jackson was married to a Sarah Anders. her sister was a Rebecca Ellis. Low Jackson was a witness to the marriage of our Edward Jackson. We have not found his family, but several names are on marriage documents, one being a Ransom Jackson. William and Sarah , the records say, married in Halifax, and moved to Wayne County, NC. Our Edward Jackson married in Wake County to two Kennon sisters. One was Rebecca, and when she passed away, he married her sister, Sarah mMria.

Rick,

The information can be found at the Johnson/Johnston/Johnstone DNA surname project through FamilyTreeDNA. I am a descendant of Sill Johnson (ca. 1695/1701-1763) of Johnston County, NC via two of his sons, Henry Johnson (ca. 1730/40-1807) of Johnston County, NC and Benjamin Johnson (ca. 1750/55-ca. 1825) of Cumberland (now Harnett) County, NC. My second cousin once-removed, who is a direct male descendant of Sill Johnson via son Benjamin, was DNA tested for this line. The Sill Johnson line is haplotype I2a, and is part of the "Burr Oak" family group at the Johnson/Johnston DNA project. The President Andrew Johnson line is haplotype I2b, and is part of the "Scarlet Oak" family group.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hjohnson/N...

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I just wanted to share this update on the Johnson line you cited. The lineage for Jacob Johnson, father of President Andrew Johnson, put forth by the late genealogist Hugh Buckner Johnston in the "North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal" in the early 1980s has been disproven by genetic testing. Jacob Johnson of Raleigh, NC and his probable father William Johnson of Mark's Creek District of Wake County were not descendants of Sill Johnson (d. 1763) of Johnston County, NC as suggested by Mr. Johnston's articles.

Silvanus "Sill" Johnson was born about 1696-1701 in Old Rappahannock (Essex) County, VA, the son of Henry Johnson (d. 1722) and his wife Elizabeth Muffett. Sill's family moved from Essex County to Lancaster County, VA in the 1710s, and his father Henry died there in 1722. Sill Johnson returned to Essex County by 1733, but sold his land there in 1738 and removed to Amelia (later Prince Edward) County, VA. Between 1750 and 1755, Sill Johnson migrated from Prince Edward County, VA to Johnston County, NC, where he acquired land on Swift Creek and White Oak Branch. He died in Johnston County in 1763. His children by his first marriage were Henry, William, Richard, and Sill, Jr. By his second marriage to Elizabeth (d. 1765, who was likely Elizabeth Carrell before marriage), he had two much younger sons Absalom and Benjamin Johnson.

Sill's son Richard Johnson died in Johnston County, NC in 1769. His widow Phereby remarried to Abner Sauls. She left a will in Johnston County, NC as "Phereby Sauls" devised in 1813 (proven 1821), which mentions her son William. This William was NOT identical with the William who owned land in the Mark's Creek District of Wake County believed to be the grandfather of President Andrew Johnson.

Genetic testing has been done for both the Sill Johnson line, as well as for the Jacob Johnson/President Andrew Johnson line. They are not a genetic match.

A direct descendant of President Johnson's brother William Johnson of Brazoria County, TX has been tested, as well as several descendants of Moses Johnson of Carter County, TN, alleged brother of Jacob Johnson. These lines were a match. Present genetic results at the Johnston/Johnston DNA surname project suggest that President Andrew Johnson and his father Jacob Johnson were descended from or genetically related to William Johnson (d. 1710) of Surry County, VA.

I am unaware of any Wake Co. Early Tax Lists for sale in any format. You might, however, find a listing of some of the types records, both on site and off, you are looking for by checking out the Wake County NCGenWeb site:
http://www.ncgenweb.us/wake/

FamilySearch.org provides free access to all of the NC Census Records, although some of the images may be linked through Ancestry or Fold3, for which a subscription is required to view. FamilySearch also has a number of North Carolina Records which might help in your research including The NC Probate Records includes free images of wills, inventories, and various other documents depending on the County; they are not indexed for searching, so one must look for the names through the book index for the years you are researching to find the images. They also have Estate Records, which are indexed and Searchable by name and County; I do see in the Wake County Collection an estate record for Jacob Moneyham.

If you haven't visited the site before, here is the link:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&a...

I suggest you go directly to the Collection of interest rather than trying to do a general search through the menu.

Also, many libraries have Heritage Quest and allow their patrons free online access to the site with the use of one's library card. HQ has all of the U.S. Census and other genealogy related material online accessable from one's own computer. You can check your own local library to see if they have Heritage Quest, and get instructions as to how to access it.

Deloris Williams

Looking for Tedder and similiar names in Wake from 1771 to 1790. Are there books or DVDs with tax lists for Wake that I can buy? Also want to review the 1790 census image for Jacob Moneyham. Jacob married Hannah Tedder in 1785. His name was recorded at that time as Moonehan.

Thanks!
