I read about the tombstone at the WFMY2 web site. The article stated the dates were 11 Jan 1849 - 01 Apr 1904.
If the date of birth was 1829, I think I have found Elizabeth. She would have been the wife of James Madison Carlton.
1900 Wake County census:
Madison Carlton b. Mar 1854
Elizabeth wife b. Jan 1829
She was older. Age varies from 1880 to 1900, but at least 20 years older than Madison.
By 1910, James M. Carlton had remarried. The census noted he and his wife, Mary, had been married twice.
So, the date of death of 1904 for Elizabeth fits.
I located James Madison Carlton at ancestry.com with wife Elizabeth or Elizabeth Mary King, no other info for Mary and no death date for James.
Marcellus Carlton was a son.
Unfortunately, I do not know where Elizabeth or James were buried.
I did find son, Marcellus Carlton, in a cemetery listing at the Wake County GenWeb site. He is buried at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. James Madison Carlton nor Elizabeth were listed as being buried there.
Hope this helps,
