Surnames: Erwin, Jordan
William Erwin R. W. veteran was born in Lancaster County, Pa. in 1754-55 according to his pension application. He is listed on the Henderson Co. census of 1840 as being 80+ years of age. The Erwins lived in what is today Brevard, NC. Transylvania County. Ephriam England who helped build the T'Vania courthouse was married first to Elizabeth Erwin, granddaughter of Wm. Erwin. His second wife was Esther Rebecca Ann Erwin, daughter of Samuel Erwin, son of Thomas Erwin, son of William Erwin. Wm. Erwin received a land grant in then Buncombe Co. as early as 1801. William Erwin, his brother James and sister Elizabeth Erwin are all named as heirs to brother, George Erwin, who died in Iredell or Rowan, NC about 1801. (For list of brothers and sisters of George Erwin, see Loose papers file in NC archives--Iredell County, I believe.) Father of Wm. James, Elizabeth, George, and others was Thomas Erwin, d. ca. 1793 in Iredell Co. Will on file there. I am looking for descendants of William Erwin who died in Buncombe/ Henderson after 1840. William Allen Erwin, my ancestor, grandson of William Erwin RWV, is shown on the 1840 census of Henderson as Allen Erwin. Wm. Allen Erwin m. Nancy Jordan, dtr. of Rev. Robert Jordan and both are buried in Town Creek Cemetery, Pickens Co. Ga.
