There's a great website called Smokykin.com. It has TONS of information on the Reagans back to the 1600s. I can't remember the name of the immigrant ancestor offhand, but I'm thinking its Timothy and he was from Ireland. There's also a couple of books about the Reagans by Donald Reagan. I've seen them in the Family History Library here in Salt Lake City. Most of my information comes from those two sites, but they end with Thomas Reagan, who was Laura's father. I can send you what I've been able to find from Thomas and Harriet down if you'd like. Its all based on what Laura was able to tell my mother before she (Laura) died.
I can't remember if I've seen her grave in Haskell, Ok or not. Martha Ellen is burried in Haskell with her husband Headwright Moore...one of their daughter's is my grandmother Grace Moore (m. Tyndall). We are going to a family reunion in Morris, OK, down the road from Haskell in June. I can ask some relatives more info. I was always under the impression that the Reagans were Irish or Scottish. My cousin lives near Cherokee, NC and has some info on the Reagans, but I haven't talked to him much about it. Was just looking for some stuff online. I have seen someone post a picture of my great-grandma Martha Ellen, I have the same pic :)
Rebecca
breyncali@gmail.com

Yes, it sounds like we might have a match here. My grandmother was Helen Marguerite Yates, daughter of Laura Belle Reagan and Garland Hurst Yates. She was born in Haskell, OK as were a couple of her brothers, I believe. Before moving to Muskogee county, Laura and her husband lived in Neoshoe, Misouri as did her parents and brothers, George and Aaron. It's possible that the entire family went to Oklahoma at the same time. Laura said her mother, Harriet, died in Oklahoma in 1925, but I've never been able to find any record of it.

Hi, I am a descendent of the Reagan's. My family is from Oklahoma, mostly Haskell and Muskogee. We are Creek Indian, but not sure if that comes from our Moore side. I've never heard of us being Choctaw or Cherokee. My grandmother, Grace Tyndall, was registered half Creek, and her father's side is registered on the Dawe's Roll as Creeks. I don't have any information from her mom's side, but a few names. I know they came from North Carolina and that Reagan and Roberts are family names. Maybe we can put some information together :)
Rebecca

Have you posted a query on the Swain SURNAME board?

thanks.
Hi
I'm sort of new to this family research thing so here goes...

My grandfather is James Harrison Jenkins, m. Lucy Bumgarner

Children
Allen
Sarah (Janie) (m. Frank Hyde)
Geneva
Euna (m. She was very young when she passed

My Grandmother Lucy's sisters (that I can remember)were Laura & Nancy. Laura's married surname was Burns, & I think Nancy married a John Jenkins, so her last name didn't change.

another possibility - Haywood County is next to the Reservation, and the county seat is Waynesville. Could be that he meant Haywood County.

I am a descedent of a John Byrd who was a full blood cherokee from Swain County. His daughter's name was Sallie Goo-Quah. She married a white man. I have been unable to find out any information on her family. Sounds like we may be searching for the same family.

Hi,

I've just made a startling discovery...ok, at this point it's only a theory, but here it is:

My maternal grandfather, Henry L. Bird/Byrd was born on Sep 18, 1884 (thanks to his WWI Draft Registration card for this golden nugget of information). The `Indian' box was checked, then scribbled out and replaced with `White'.

Two separate death records for his infant sons that died (in 1919 and 1922), shows his birth place to be Wayne Co., NC).

The 1920 Census shows his birthplace to be NC and his parents were each born in OK.

The 1930 Census shows he is full-blood Cherokee and, because the enumerator did his/her job exactly as detailed by the instruction manual for this Census (thankfully), it shows that he is born in NC, is full-blood (where his father's birthplace would normally be listed), and he is Cherokee (where his mother's birthplace would have been listed).

My new theory, based on the fact that Wayne County was well East of most known places where Indians would have been living in 1884...is that he was born in SWAIN County, NOT WAYNE County.

So...would anyone happen to have my grandfather Henry in their tree???

Thanks for your time,
I would love to know where my gggrandparents lived up in Bryson city they owned land on Alarka Creek but people said they never lived on it. They were members of Cold Springs Church and he was buried in Jackson line cemetery. I never found out how he died just know he died young and grandmother moved to Raburn co. Ga. in the early 1900s.Thanks for any help you can give just trying to learn my heritage. I love NC and would love to live there someday. judy akins

The 1880 Census for Macon County shows Benjamin and Margaret A. Byrd living there with their children, including Virginia F. Byrd, age 3. Other researchers have shown Virginia marrying Samuel Freeman and show Virginia burried in Tellico Cemetery, Franklin, Macon County, NC and gives the dob as 10/21/1878 and dod as 7/23/1905. I don't find Samuel buried there. Perhaps this info will assist you in further research or youy may have already had this data.

You are from Lula's line (I believe I have some of her as well), and I am the great-granddaughter of Henry Barker, the baby. If you still check this, please send me a message! I'll gladly share any photos or info I have, and I'd love to see/learn anything you have as well!!!

(This is for anyone interested!)

Thanks so much for your help! I already have this census data, but I am looking for some record of her before she married, which was in 1894 in Swain County, NC. Her parents are John Jenkins and Elizabeth Baines Jenkins. I can't seem to find anything for her then....Thanks again!
