KING - Roy J. "Jack" James, 73, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004.
He was born May 17, 1931, in Stokes County to William H. and Beulah Agnes Moser James.
He was a 1951 graduate of King High School and in 1978 received a general associate's degree from Surry Community College. He served with the U.S. Army and retired from AT&T in Winston-Salem after 37 years of service. He was a member of the King Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Jack was a member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ, where he had served as deacon, elder, song leader and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Bowen James; a daughter, Mona James of Knoxville, Tenn.; a son, Craig James and wife Sheryl of Roxboro; and a brother, Carl Ray James and wife Margaret of Winston-Salem.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Poplar Springs Church of Christ with ministers Don Wallace, Chuck Bower and Ralph Sproles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Oct. 14, at Slate Funeral Home in King. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Church of Christ, 7120 NC Hwy 66 S., King, NC 27021.
