I am a little bit stuck in my research and I was hoping someone out there could offer some help. I traced my lineage back to my great great great grandmother Amy Ann Dudley (b. abt. 1850).

She first appears in the 1850 Sampson County census living with Rebecca (b. 1807), Phereby (b. 1820), Levi (b. 1817), Sylvany (b. 1825), Anna (b. 1844), Phereby (b. 1848), and Gainey Dudley (b. 1836). Since relations are not listed, I have no idea how they are all related besides having the same last name. Also, Levi is listed as deaf and dumb.

Then in the 1860 census, she is listed as living with Pharoah Lee (b. 1792) and David Lee who I am pretty sure is Pharoah's nephew. This living arrangement doesn't exactly make sense to me since there is no obvious relation.

In 1870, she is once again living with Phereby Dudley as well as two of her own children, who I am pretty sure are fathered by Calvin Lee, one of Pharoah's slaves. She is also listed as mulatto and Phereby as white.

In 1880, the last census she is in, she is married to my great great great grandfather Martin Rose (b. 1848). I am also unsure of where he comes from. But, they live next door to other Roses, who are listed as white, John James Rose and Julia A. Rose. I researched those families and they seem to be intertwined with the Lee family as well, Jesse Lee to be exact.



In conclusion, I would like to find out who Amy's parents were, or at least her relation to the Lee, Dudley, and Rose families. I don't really know anyone from this side of my family, so I only have records and a few pictures to go by. I know my great grandmother was very light skinned and could pass for white, So, I assume that Amy may have been similar. I have also done the DNA test, and through searching, a few members with DNA in common with mine have ties to the Lee family. My suspicion is that Phereby may have been Amy's mother, and Phereby may have been Pharoah's sister. Who was Amy's father then? I have no idea. Please help.
