If she is buried there, it is in an unmarked grave.

"United States Census, 1860," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MD67-SP7 : accessed 25 December 2014), William C Dudley in household of Amariah B Alderman, Mingo District Northern Division, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; from "1860 U.S. Federal Census - Population," Fold3.com; citing p. 89, household ID 612, NARA microfilm publication M653, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D.C.; FHL microfilm 803,913. William died in 1866 at the age of 50 in Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
Got a bit of a problem here! The 1850 Census of the Northern Division of Sampson County in Dwelling 557 lists William C. Dudley, 34, m, w; Martha, 25, f, w; Sylvany, 10, f, w; Mary, 9, f, w; John, 8, m, w; Martha, 6, f, w; Ready, 5, f, w; William, 3, m, w; Levi, 2, m, w; and Enoch, 6/12, m, w. My information is that William's middle name was Coleman and that his wife Martha was a Draughon.

William Coleman DUDLEY and Martha "Patsy" JOYNER were married about 1836 in North Carolina, United States. Martha "Patsy" JOYNER, daughter of William JOYNER and Peggy BAGGETT, was born about 1816 in North Carolina, United States. She died before 1860 at the age of 44 in North Carolina, United States. She was also known as Draughon.

William Coleman DUDLEY and Martha JOYNER had the following children:

+2 i. Sylvania DUDLEY, born 4 Jul 1837, Mingo, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; married Matthew James CRUMPLER, 30 Aug 1859, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; died 2 Sep 1916, Honeycutts, Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
+3 ii. Mary DUDLEY, born abt 1841, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; married Edwin BASS.
+4 iii. John Robert DUDLEY, born abt 1842, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; married Margaret J. WILLIS, 1876, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; married Keziah JACKSON, 1865, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; died 6 Apr 1918, Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
+5 iv. Martha DUDLEY, born abt 1844, Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
6 v. Beady A. "Ready" DUDLEY was born about 1845 in Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
7 vi. William DUDLEY was born about 1847 in Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
+8 vii. Levi DUDLEY, born Aug 1848, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; died 10 Nov 1906, Sampson, North Carolina, United States.
+9 viii. Enoch DUDLEY, born Mar 1850, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; married Eliza Jean BASS; died 6 Sep 1932, Sampson, North Carolina, United States.

Second Generation

2. Sylvania DUDLEY (William Coleman-1) was born on 4 Jul 1837 in Mingo, Sampson, North Carolina, United States. She died on 2 Sep 1916 at the age of 79 in Honeycutts, Sampson, North Carolina, United States. I looked up the death certificate of Sylvania this afternoon while in Clinton. She was born 4 July 1839 in Mingo Township and died 2 September 1916 in Honeycutts Township, aged 79 years, 1 month, and 28 days, daughter of W.C. Dudley and Martha Draughon. Buried in Holland Burial Ground.

I looked real close and must have misread the birth date when I copied it some years ago. However the age as reported would give a birth date of 4 July 1837. Who is to say which is right, 1837 or 1839. Such errors on death certificates occur all the time. I forgot to note the burial date. Maybe next time. She was buried after 2 Sep 1916 at Holland Burial Ground in Sampson, North Carolina, United States. She is buried at the Holland Burial Ground in an unmarked grave..

Confederate Pin and Ear Rings
1860's , Sampson County, NC
This story was told by Carrie Sylvia Porter Bauer Gardner on 20 April 2008.

During the Civil War Sylvania Dudley, my great, great grandmother and Sylvia's great grandmother, for whom Sylvia was named, lived on a farm in the Mingo township near present day Spivey's Corner in Sampson County, NC. Sylvania was an excellent seamstress and was asked to sew battle flags for the Confederate army, which she did. The Confederate government with limited funds paid her with a light gold pin and ear rings. The pin was embossed with oak leaf clusters. The ear rings were lost, but Sylvia's mother, Buella Crumpler Porter passed the pen and a portrait of Sylvania, wearing the pen and ear rings down to Sylvia. At the time Sylvia did not have room for the portrait in her small apartment and asked her mother to keep it in her attic. Later my Annie Laura Crumpler asked Buella for the portrait, and thinking that Sylvia was no longer interested granted the request. Sylvia thinks that the portrait was in the hands of Annie Laura's unwed daughter, Sabra Crumpler when Sabra died in c. 2006. Sylvia has a strong interest in finding and securing the portrait since it will verify the origin of the pen she still possesses.

Sylvania DUDLEY and Matthew James CRUMPLER were married on 30 Aug 1859 in Sampson, North Carolina, United States. Matthew James CRUMPLER, son of John CRUMPLER and Margaret GURLEY, was born in 1818 in Sampson, North Carolina, United States. +11 ii. Mary Ann "Mollie" CRUMPLER, born 7 Sep 1865, Sampson, North Carolina, United States; married Minson HOWARD; married Lovette WARREN; married Franklin H. HOLLAND; died 8 Sep 1944, Durham, Durham, North Carolina, United States.
