I found an earlier deed of a John Gilbert (of Duplin Co) buying land in 1754. A few years later he sold land to Abraham. (in Duplin Co.). Also a James Gilbert appears in Sampson County in 1785-85 buying and selling land. However, I can not figure out where he went from there. It appears that a younger Abraham Gilbert stayed in Sampson County per the 1800, 1810 census.

John I#2) had a older son per the 1800 Sampson County census. Does anyone know who he was and where he wound up going?

Also, who is the Martin Gilbert in the Hancock County, GA 1812 tax list? Is this the same Martin from Sampson County?
